This is Major Tom Lynch's P-38H, of the 35thFG, 39thFS, out of Tsili Tsili, September 1943. Tweaked the shade and the wear patterns but tried to keep it close to Ince's. Guppy, the 35th operated a mix of Fs, Gs, and Hs, right? This is a P-38H-1 so its about as close to a G as possible.

btw many thanks to Kev367th for sharing the warning label and fuel cap layer. All those warning labels really add to the realism when you're up inspecting up close.

NICE :aok

39th FS would have operated a mix of them. They most definately had G models in the mix.
That looks great, and Tommy Lynch is a good pilot to be remembered in here with his plane.

wasnt that later a 475th bird?
-
Maybe Tom Lynch later joined the 475th and carried over the same shark mouth markings?
My source is Osprey's P-38 Lightning Aces of the Pacific and CBI, and the information for his plane's profile (#6, p47)says he was CO of the 39th FS/35th FG.
The date of the profile pictured is September 1943, if that helps?

this look familiar to a 475th bird, was a hand me down from another FG, that Guppy posted about earlier. so, i think it may be the same bird, different pilot...maybe? guppy? help
oh, yea, great looking skin!!:aok

Found it, K.

It was a different bird, though originally from the 35th FG. I just thought Lynch's was a more colorful version of the sharkmouth, plus I had just done a 475th machine, so getting one from a differnet FG made sense.
I did a little readin up on Lynch and he was quite a fighter pilot - a shame to lose him (groundfire). He would've been right up there in score at the War's end I'm sure.

Nice Oboe, glad you found the layer useful.
You seen what Dan has been doing to our poor skins?

One of his latest 'exploits'. :)

I know! I feel sorry for his trouble, but that screenshot is almost too cool for words, and it really shows off your skin nicely. He must be one heck of a pilot to get that thing back on the ground safely.
I just joined his Headhunters squad, so I'll try to look after him :)

oboe, wasnt tryin to get another 475th skin, just lettin ya know it was around some, so good choice.:aok

Yep, the 39th had to give up their 38s for the 475th. The 475th were not the most popular crew with the rest of the 38 drivers in 5th AF as they got to take pilots and planes from other squads :)
39th ended up in Jugs and the 475th got their Lightnings. 9th FS of the 49th FG were another of the early 38 squadrons that had to give up their 38s for Jugs too. Bong had been with the 9th to start out.
39th FS 38s for the most part all had shark mouths of one sort or another.

np, chief! I woulda done Lynch's machine even if he was in the 475th - just too nice a lookin' scheme. But in general I try for a mix of FGs.
