Title: new film: servin' taters
Post by: wetrat on March 16, 2005, 04:13:51 PM
So I was bored when I got home after work this afternoon, and I decided to go through some of my G10 films and string together a movie. I put in a bunch of clips of me killing decent sticks (all of em are pretty well above average) who get behind me one way or another, and then a long fight with NathBDP. I ended up winning that, but I'll admit he's better than me ;)

I experimented with some effects on this one, so let me know what you think.

This'll be the last film with me in it for a while.. not sure how much flying I'm gonna get to do in the next few weeks. Grab it here (http://www.michaelking.ca/media/servin-taters.wmv).

Nice film.

That last fight between you and I is one to remember.  It was challenging for me to keep the bird responsive with a missing aileron and flap, especially when setting up for snapshots.  I have the film from my perspective, for those who are interested in seeing it.  It's funny, I used my last two rounds of 30mm one turn away from a better shot opportunity.  I had to rest my arm for 10 minutes after that fight. :D

the vulches are in goob's film

And yeah, fights like that don't happen too often in the MA.. was something straight from the DA. You can see where I stop to type to my squaddies to GTFO :D

Thanks for posting those films guys. I have a question, it looks like you guys were doing repeated roll reversals on each other or am I not seeing that right?

Rolling scissors.. it always looks like the guy up top has the advantage, and just keeps going back and forth until someone actually does get an advantage at the top.

Nice film WetRat, and even nicer flyin. I just can't seem to do the things I see you and others do with the G10.

But you're lucky the ElGay in the second clip was such a sorry shot, he had 3 or 4 chances to put you away before you bettered him.

hehe, nah.. his only chance was on the first overshoot when I misjudged his E. Watching that demo from his pov, after that I crossed his nose really quickly a couple times when he was in no position to pull rudder for a shot. At best he would've done superficial damage ;)

Don't think so... he lost the scissor. It happens eventually.

No... I wasted a lot of time/E going for that last shot where I pinged him with the machine guns (at this point, I was out of 30mm).  The last manuever at the top of my scissor allowed me to get the nose around fast and get a shot off, which I did hit, unfortunately nothing was apparently damaged on his a/c.  The manuever put me in an awkward position where he was at the top of his scissor and rolling down--thus gaining e--while I was heading back to the top of mine.

I don't know if that makes any sense, but the film is a witness to what I did.   Here is a snapshot of the end of the fight:

Notice my flight line compared to his.  In a way, after we passed each other at the extremes of each loop, this no longer become a scissors because he now had my 6.  Nothing I could do, only hope that he was out of 30mm :)

I held on to my last 3 taters for dear life :D Had 10 or so to start, but blew the shot and gave you position on me.. you can probly figure out where that happened from the film :p

The action's pretty cool but I honestly couldn't tell you were fighting another G10!! Looked almost like a spit to me. The encoding made it all blurry on my screen :/

Great flying!I noticed that most people dont get to many deflection shots with the tatergun,I personally always use the 20mm even though there's only a few pounds difference in total wt. of the two guns.I prefer the ballistics of the 20mm.Can you explain why the tater gun isnt good for deflection shots or is it just my piss poor aim?I've practiced offline numerous times to try to get it figured out but to no avail.I very seldom take shots over d400 with cannons.

Nath was teaching me how to hit with it.  Frankly, I'm still not that good with it, but I NEVER shoot over 200. The deflection shots can best be compared to a game of "wack-a-mole".  If you don't get that little sucker right when his head pops up, you'll never get him.  Same with the tatergun... small bursts of 3, and you just have to tune your reflexes to pop that guy at the exact right time.  It sucks to learn it, but after smack down a few, its SOOOO gratifying  =)

Nice film, and good flying by both of you guys.  Usually when I see a g10 I laugh, but you guys are like trying to catch a wet bar of soap the sink. :D

In the last fight with Nath, there were hit sprites on the wings a couple of times.  I always thought that with the 30mm, that it would take the wing off with one good hit.  Were you firing the MG's at the same time and those were hits with the machine guns?  Or am I wrong in my thinking of the 30mm?
