Hey Dan.

I remember seeing red/orange F6F paint schemes somewhere but cant seem to find em.

I wonder if they where used in WW2, what the story of the paintscheme is and if it could be made for AH.

I think these are the birds you are thinking of.  Doubt HTC would let em in as they are postwar.
