Title: Is the speed of the P-40E correct? Plus can we have the P-40N PLEASE!! ;)
Post by: TexMurphy on March 21, 2005, 07:43:18 AM
Im starting to wonder if our P-40E isnt undermodeled.

According to this site http://www.p40warhawk.com/Variants/P-40E.htm the speed of the P-40E is 335mph at 5000 feet.

According to the chart of on the HTC site our P-40E doesnt even do 325mph at 5000 feet http://www.hitechcreations.com/ahhelp/models/p40e.html

Further Id really like to see the P-40N in the game.

Its one of the bigger series of P-40s and a later one. Given the "time frame" of MA it will never be a real contender but this will at least push it in that direction. Plus that it would work really well for CT and future ToD tours.

The batch Id like to see modeled in is the P-40-N-1-CU.

Hi Tex,

With a couple of friends, weresearched of P-40E performance rather thoroughly.

We arrived at the conclusion that the P-40E should achieve 560 km/h @ 3750 m (348 mph @ 12300 ft) at 44" Hg, 3000 rpm.

At 5000 ft, it would do 319 mph at that power setting, so the number you quote seems a bit high (or meant for a very high power setting).

>The batch Id like to see modeled in is the P-40-N-1-CU.

There's quite a bit of confusing data on the P-40N, but after a lot of research I'm confident that the speed of a properly performing P-40N-1 is pretty accurately 580 km/h @ 3048 m (361 mph @ 10000 ft) at 57" Hg, 3000 rpm.

Regards,

Henning (HoHun)

Going to be really tough to do TOD without an He-111...

I know very well the He-111 is needed for TOD, just like a Junker transport (what ever its number was).

But the east front and pacific fronts are much much further away from possible then the EU-West front.

Im mearly sudgesting that the P-40-N-1-CU gets added during the P-40 revisoin which will come one day, just like for all existing planes.

The He111 would be nigh useless for ToD.

ToD is going to be a '44 USAAF bomber offensive against Germany initially.  The He111 played literally no role in that.

lasersailor184's dry cleaner:
"Please no P-40n in AH!"
