Greets all,
My puter died so I brought it back from the light at the end of the tunnel... hehehe...
got the lastest drivers & DX9c reinst but, AH2 locks up hard when I start it...
I think I might've missed some of the VIA drivers for the MB but I can't think of anything else... goin to check/get those now
I've got a DxDiag report but GEEZ! its huge...
what parts of it do you need ??
anyways, any help you could give me would be great...
Thx

About the first 1/3 of it or so. Need to see all the devices hooked up and the drivers being used, settings, etc.

2 things I notice right off.
Turn down your hardware acceleration on your sound. Onboard sound is notoriously buggy in games. Turn it down to no acceleration, and if that solves your problem you can turn it back up in increments until you find the point where it becomes a problem. For most people this is 3/4.
You are using the wrong drivers on that video card. I wouldnt use anything above 61.77 for the MX 4000. The MX series cards were good cards but they are quite dated now and the newer drivers are pretty much just for the newer 6xxx series cards. They can cause serious instability issues.
Just to make sure, you turned off the SP2 firewall yes?
-
Hmm... Didn't know that about the onboard sound... will do so...
also thanx for the tip on video drivers... just figured the latest would be the best...
also, Yes the firewall is off...
thanx again SOA2

but I think there's something missing for the MB...
the INF manager or controller or sumpthin...
anyways, still tweakin..
WD
-
... running the test associated with this tab makes the PC lock up...
so then I go to the "sound/audio/setting thingy in the control panel, & run the tests there... same same ...
so a new conundrumn...
also, the modem (dialup) has stopped responding...
maybe the root of the evil that has accosted my puter ??...
only the shadow knows...
uhh... or some other geek who knows more than this geek... :D
WD
-
should've been more specific...
running the test on the voice tab under sounds & audio devices in the control panel...
under the DxDiag it's the tests under the networking tab ...
WD
-
See if you can find an updated driver for your onboard sound. If this isnt possible, you might end up having to spend the money for an add on sound card (might be worth the money anyway for the resources you'd free up).
-
Well, I got it runnin... think I'm gonna get a sound card anyways...
like ya said...
Thx for your help SOA2
WD
-
Glad it works :)
-
just a quick note...
I got one of those USB webcams with a microphone built in... AH2 likes that one selected in the audio/voice tab...
it doesn't like it when I select my integrated sound card ... AH2 locks up everytime...
so!!... it's something to do with Vox & my settings...
<> dunno why cause everything is the same on my system as before... weird huh...
I mean nothings changed...
anyways... once I figure it out I'll post it...

There are things that go on behind the scenes in Windows that no one can predict. I dont even think the people who wrote the actual code for Windows can predict everything that it will do.
For instance, sometimes I use the Anisotropic Filtering on my video card (not for AH). There are times I forgot to turn it off. Sometimes AH would start and run fine. Other times, it would lock up and go berzerk. I never could tell what was different between one instance and the other, like it was totally arbitrary. Which is impossible of course, but makes you think.
I have to wonder sometimes if Windows programmers, as a joke, didnt install some sort of "damage randomizer" that determines what type of error to give you each time you start up the computer lol. Ah well.
