That has to be based on a popularity contest more than anything...I hardly agreed with positions on the list at all.
-
Tom Hanks should be in the top 5
-
What has tom cruise done to merit him being 3rd?
-
My initial Answer to the question when I read the title of the thread was: "Cary Grant, and 49 random people"
I was right :p

Keep in mind, they seem to be talking about "movie stars" not "talented actors"

i just noticed HANOI Jane is on there...
replace her with... heck even jared from the subway commercials.
also, russle crowe doesn't belong on the list.
-
Jack Lemmon is #45?
Pffffft.

And Walter Matthau?
Pffft. Whoever made up that list is clueless.
-
Good and it's not americano-centric ;)
-
Steve Mcqueen should be in top 5.

You said actors in your title, the poll is about STARS. Tom Cruise may not be a good actor, but he is a big star.

along that line of thinking Harrison Ford should be #1 #2 and #3
he's the biggest grossing actor in history, by over 3 fold.
the movies he has been in have made more for hollywood than anything... in fact i may be mistaken, but there was a statistic one time about adding his movies up, then add all other movies for 20 years, and he was still in the lead some insaine number

What no Bruce Cambell ... no larry moe or curly ... no abbot or costello ... John travolta .... and worst of all no
Robin Williams or Mel Gibson
i could go on but whats the point ,,, that list sux .

3rd?? he doesnt even belong on the flipp'n list!
-
OK, hold on for a second....
Your chastising this list, which is made up of someone's stupid opinions, and wondering why it doesn't coincide with your own stupid opinions?
Carry on.....
-
Looks like the same kinda bogus list comedy central had about comedians.
How the F does Chris rock rank ahead of the likes of Don Rickles andRodney dangerfeild or even Sam Kinneson I'll never know.
I dont even think he's all the funny to begin with
-
Opinions are like bellybutton holes. Everyone has one and this one obviously stinks.
Pffft...
Oh, wait a minute... the topic is greatest "star", not greatest actor.
That would be an entirely different list than this one.
-
All time number 1 actor...
Bill "I didn't have sex with that woman...Ms. Lowenski" Clinton
-
Top 50 movie stars?
Pulling power, not ability it seems, and even then it would seem all arsed up...thats saying John Wayne has more range than Edward Norton (who isn't even on the list)
Tronsky

Ok you have a point there.
Flip Bogy for Cruise though.
Cruise could only aspire to Bogy status. he aint there yet
But wait a second. the thread titel says actors!
Make up yer friggen mind. There is a difference.
"Im not an actor Im a movie star!" - Peter O toole in "My favorite Year"
-
So, it's not about acting ability then...
Hmm.... It's about being a star. What is a "star," anyways? What qualities does a star have in order to be able to effectively rank those qualities?
Drawing power? As someone has already pointed out, Harrison Ford (#35) has drawn far far more to his movies than, say, Sidney Poitier (#20).
Intrigue of the People Magazine variety? It's probably safe to say that Steve McQueen (#31) and James Dean (#30) are probably slightly more interesting personalities than Tom Cruise (#3).
What is a star? What is being factored in? What are they measuring, exactly?
I have no idea... But I can tell you what they're NOT factoring in.
I posit, The Penn Factor.

Bolshevik Bob Boroda in Michael Moore's documentary "The Katyn Massacre: How 24,000+ Committed Suicide."
Great flick.
