This month's issue of National Geographic magazine contains an article about early human ancestors or hominids.
During the course of reading this fascinating article, I ran across a statement that appears to be cropping up with considerable frequency in scientific journals. That is that our ancestors were placed on the evolutionary track to advanced intelligence by switching from a pure vegetarian diet to the eating of meat.
The extra protein allowed the development of an enlarged and more efficient brain, which is typical of predators. This has set me to wondering about a number of human behaviors which otherwise defy explanation.
1. Hunting: Is it instinctive for homo-sapiens? I often hear long-time hunters talk about the "need" to hunt, or that hunting satisfies a "need" that cannot be otherwise explained. Hail, I feel this way myself. I know of no plant-eating animal that experiences increased pulse and respiratory rates at the sight of another herbivore. However, I've seen a number of predators in the wild that appear to experience what human hunters call the "buck aggers" when a prey animal is sighted.
2. Violence: Could predatory instincts be the source of much of the violence that has shaped so much of human history? This might explain some of our actions that seem to defy any other explaination.
3. Future Human Evolution: What would to happen to human evolution if all of humanity's societies and cultures went totally vegetarian, as some animal rights groups would have us do? Would our intellect slowly deteriorate from lack of protein?
What do you think?

One conversation with, or trip to a PETA/Vegan site should answer your question:)

yeah, after browsing the peta boards you will see vegans are a lower form of life.
Lack of higher brain function should make them easy to hunt!:D
-
They wouldn't barbecue well...no fat on 'em.
-
You can eat 'em raw like vegetables.

-
Hmmm much like Pork I thought humans have things in them that can make you sick if not cooked to at least 175?
Shucking, wrap them in bacon?

Those soccer players lived...

Guess you could mix them with a little pork and grind them into sausage.
Wouldn't hardly be any backstrap or tenderloins on 'em at all.
-
hehe I haven't done much hunting or fishing since I started playing AH. It satisfies my need to "hunt" and i don't spend Sunday cleaning my rifle. The other night racoons tore up my back porch. I got my pellet gun and experienced the adrenaline rush while sighting on the little beast. I need to get out and kill some turkey this month. that just won't do at all. :D
-
Hmmmm....
Look in the mirror.
Smile or grin or whatever.
Starting in the middle, top or bottom don't matter, count outward to the number 3.
What kinda tooth is that?
Yep you are a predator.
Wouldn't have that kinda tooth if you weren't.

I'm doing my bit for the human race by supplying the vegans with a regular supply of protein.....

Hitler, a vegetarian, scored himself enough perks for 1430 Me262s, 215 Ta152s & 274 Ar234s. Probably more 10 times more than all of you geniuses combined

Bunch, go out and eat some read meat and put down the crack pipe.
Someone may be able to understand you then.
Maybe.

Hitler was a vegan? pffft lol
No Hitler wasn't. Not in the traditional sense of the word. Hitler occasionally reduced his meat consumption because of digestive problems.
If you want to call that vegetarianism, you might as well say that all meat-eaters are vegetarian for the eight hours they're asleep each night and not eating meat.
Wasn’t Hitler a vegetarian?
No. People who ask this have fallen victim to NAZI propaganda that wanted to frame Hitler as an ascetic, focused only on the needs of the German people. There is ample documentation of his meat-eating
Why Hitler Was Not a Vegetarian
Some information to debunk the long-standing, popular myth.
"Under the headline, 'Don't Put Hitler Among the Vegetarians,' the correspondent (Richard Schwartz, author of Judaism and Vegetarianism) pointed out that Hitler would occasionally go on vegetarian binges to cure himself of excessive sweatiness and flatulence, but that his main diet was meat-centered."
Hehe he ate veggies to get rid of stinky gas. lol fact check fact check

What has that got to do with the theme of this thread? Lay off my topic willya?

Nicely clipped driectly from GoVeg.com.
Just as the holocaust deniers was to do their altering of history, so do the vegetarians.
Peta has similar info on their web site.
All of it is contrary to the testimony of members of Hitler's entourage

Rugby players actually: they tend to be bigger and need more protein to survive.

Chasing the meat improved the human race more than eating it.

Chasing the moon improved the human race more than landing on it.
Meat.

A vegetarian diet can have lots of protein, in fact it can have more protein than a meat based diet for the same amout of food consumed in calories. You have to remember that protein is not in any way exclusive to meat. Yoiu can find protein in many vegetables, beans and nuts. Meat will give you protein, but it will give you lots of fat, and even worse lots of bad cholesterol - which you can only get from animal products.
I've gone about 80% vegetarian since mid october and have now lost nearly 80lbs. I eat lots less meat than before but get more protein than ever.

no, just look at the animals who only eat meat since thousand years
(ie. lions, crocodiles) yet they didnt land on the moon. There is much more
in evolution then proteins ;)

Actually, these proteins can be had from other sources, such as olive oil.

IMO, the development of speech and living in social groups is what really made humans evolve intellectually. Also the high omega 3 content of early foods helped dramatically.

And where those many vegetables, beans and nuts available to prehistoric man globally?

How dare you insult me. If you makes you feel better, I will edit in an "In my opinion" into my text.

The History Channel did a story on cannibalism recently, documented the plight of the athletes who crashed in the Andes in fair detail. I recall hearing/reading (maybe on that show) that human flesh is actually more healthy than that of other animals. Has something to do with the complex amino acids and proteins being already organized in a way that our bodies need, a higher percentage of the intake is utilized that way...

Thanks Charon! Both - simple walking does wonders plus I have started to lift weights again though not nearly as much as I did in high school.
Funny thing is I'm only now realizing how big I had to have been at my max weight, I'm still pretty fat at 250 but at 330 I must have been enormous. Still have a long way to go. :)

Of course you realize that the use of guns to hunt has started the decline in brain size due to the ease in getting the kill.

Actually it only shows up in California. The rest of the nation doesn't show the trend you mentioned. :p :D

Your welcome Mr. Insaneo. So bunch, which theory do you prefer? I like the Aquatic Ape Theory myself.

Lol & thanks...since you ask, IMHO horny (can i say that in this forum?) ape theory is likely most accurate, or maybe creationists are.
