This just hit the AP wires: Armed and masked militants in three cars opened fire on civilians in the southern Baghdad neighborhood of Doura...only to face return fire from shopkeepers and civilians...who killed three of them.

I thought the rule was no "terrorist" weapons, i.e. RPG's, HE, ect.

Baghdad Shopkeepers Kill Three Militants
Tue Mar 22, 6:50 PM ET Top Stories - AP
By TRACI CARL, Associated Press Writer
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Shopkeepers and residents on one of Baghdad's main streets pulled out their own guns Tuesday and killed three insurgents when hooded men began shooting at passers-by, giving a rare victory to civilians increasingly frustrated by the violence bleeding Iraq (news - web sites).
The clash in the capital's southern Doura neighborhood erupted when militants in three cars sprayed bullets at shoppers. Three people — a man, a woman and a child — were wounded.
The motive was unclear, but there have been previous attacks in the ethnically mixed neighborhood. Earlier in the day, gunmen in the same quarter killed a policeman as he drove to work, police Lt. Col. Hafidh Al-Ghrayri said.
A forceful citizen response is rare, but not unheard of in a country where conflict has become commonplace and the law allows each home to have a weapon. Early this month, police said townsmen in Wihda, 25 miles south of Baghdad, attacked a group of militants believed planning to raid the town and killed seven.

after the great northfield minnesota and coffeeville raids but the james gangs and (I forget the gang)... after citizens armed response and posse... there were no shooting raids on towns till the 30's and gangsters... in the country towns the people often shot back making life hard on the gangsters and killing not a few.
in the big cities where guns in the hands of the law abiding was frowned on... the gangsters shot things up at will... unbelivably.. they ignored the gun laws!
those who say guns have not "useful" purpose are seriously deluded and trusting little socialists.

Read the ****ing thread before saying such stupid things. Damn... the rhetoric and blind ignorance is reaching record levels.
The only person that really said anything in the thread beetle linked about the Iraqis being armed was Lazs:Originally posted by Lazs
Now.... If I were on the side of the majority in that country and owned property.... I would want to be armed... the only "more guns = less crime" that would matter to me would be me having more guns to protect me from crime. In the end... the people of Iraq will need to be armed if they are to be free.
Beetle didn't really offer up an oppinion on anything (despite his claim)... he was just a being typical: thinking he could make something support an unsupportable view and then claiming success after failing miserably.

yep... sorta like when he starts a phony "do you still beat your wife yes or no" type of poll and then uses the answers 6 month latter to "prove" that all the Americans on the board are either wife beaters or former wife beaters.
I am beggining to think it is the british way of debate... no wonder they are so impotent.

What's wrong in beating your wife?

no worse than being impotent I suppose.

Ah!
