Title: New Video card not recognized by AH
Post by: Red Tail 444 on March 22, 2005, 07:10:01 PM
Hey Guys,

I just installed the Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT AGP, and when the game asks me to select the vid card, nothing is available in the display screen.

For some reason it seems the game is not recognizing the hardware?

I'm running a P4 1.6 over 256 RAM 40GB HD I upgraded from a GeForce2 MMX which gave me no problems in AH under rerduced detail settings...

Delete vidio8.cfg in the settings folder, and if you have a vidio7.cfg delete it too.

Yup,. deleted both, same problem, there's nothing for me to highlight in the setup template...

I'm using an analog monitor, through a digital to analog adapter that came with the video card...is that causing a problem?

When you installed the new card, did you delete the old drivers?  Ive never seen what you describe in AH, but I've seen it happen in other games.  Also, what version drivers are you using?  Are they the ones off the CD or did you download them?

I had the geniuses at egghead install it, so I believe that everything was installed properly. I just also discovered that my videos (well some of them) are inverted, and backwards. it's odd, not all of them are screwed up. There's definitely a conflict somewhere.

I have direct 8 and 9 installed, and as per zmeg's instructions, I deleted configs 7 and 8, to no avail.

I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling the software again, if it improves, I'll reply ASAP...if not, I'm still fishing for suggestions.

Here is the process you should use.  Uninstall your drivers.  Turn the comp. off and back on, and let the video card be recognized as "vga compatible" or whatever it is the adapter is recognized as for the generic setting.  Now install your new drivers.  Restart.  Now your new drivers should be in effect, and the registry should properly reflect the changes.  At this point I always reinstall Direct X just to be safe, it can get corrupted sometimes during uninstall/reinstall operations.  Now go to your game files and delete the video8.cfg file again.  Now start Aces High.  The video setup should pop up first thing and allow you to select your video card and basic settings.

If this is how you did it already, or if it doesnt work, send Skuzzy a copy of your Direct X diagnostic report, or post the first 1/3 of it or so here so we can look at the drivers and hardware installed.

Good luck!

Everything started up almost as you said it would, but Winsows gave me a message on the Hardware Update Wizard.

"An error occurred during the installation of this device. Access is denied.

Don't use the setup wizard just run the driver setup.

It sounds like you dont have admin privs enabled for the account?  Do you have more than one user setup for the computer?  And if so, did you give the account you are using the ability to download and/or install programs?

what size power supply are ya running?   Does it have to be plugged in to the power supply  in 2 spots or just 1 ? if it didnt have power at all im sure it would give you some sort of error at boot , but just a thought   38
