Did I miss a thread here where the situation in Kirgizia is discussed?
Any ideas on who started that "revolution"?
So far people in Frunze... er, Bishkek gather in crowds asking: "So, we have overthrown the old president. Now tell us please what was it for?..."
-
Nope.. you didnt miss it. You are here.

When someone asks me on the phone "What are you doing now?" - I always answer "I am talking to you on the phone".
Were there any other threads that I missed?...
-
No, havent seen any, and lets face it.... im here alot.
-
Do they have any oil we can steal?
-
Frankly there has been too little about it in the news to be able to discuss it.
The only thing I have gathered from the brief bits I saw was that there are allegations of election fraud and that the "president" has fled the country due to an uprising of the populace in the capital.
I don't spend much time watching the news so there may be more out there.
-
been alot of it on the news here, but then i live in yurope so..
-
So I gather there's no oil? A shame...

Another small ex-soviet asian country. Since the collapse they haven't advanced a bit. The people are lazy but fed up. The goverment is changed, but the new ones are same kind of corrupt crooks. The same happens again in 10 years.
Who cares?
-
If it weren't for 30 years of Stalinist corruption, murder and meglomania, Kyrgyzstan would have been the Switzerland of central asia.

By any chance are the people demonstrating in the street asking for the return of rulers from Moscow?
Just curious.
-
I just hope they don't start running over each other with tanks and attacking their own TV stations like the Lituanians did in '91.

Kyrgyzswhat?

Not that much that you may be so interested in. But they have a certain territory, and any flat spot on the earth's face is good for a USAF base.

I would guess mangos and kiwis don't grow there either.

Actually their almost neighbors in Azerbaijan have fruits which very much resemble kiwis.
"Mango revolution" ! Smells too good for me.

I think it's all part of the same tendency to look towards the west much in the same way as the Ukraine has recently. People can see how the wind is blowing and all want the same things we tend to take for granted here in the west. There seems to be a strong tendency to move away from the Moscow and the Russian way of things in these old Soviet countries.
It has no oil though. Unlike it's neighbours. I think Kazakhstan has almost as much oil as Saudi Arabia. So Kyrgyzstan won't have much impact on anyone's strategic interests. They will be left to get on with it unless Putin intervenes.
-
Is the new Kyrgiz Gov't going to allow the new caliphate to be established in the Fergana Valley?
-
Apparently the suffix "-stan" means "crazy ****ers live here".

CP, take a look at the map and you'll see.
It's just amazing how some guys like to play domino : from the sea ports of Pakistan to Afganistan, then thru Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, runs a pipeline for the oil of Kazakhstan.
God bless America, the land of the free.

Actually I just saw on the news. Kygriswhatever is very unusual in that it actually has both Russian and American military bases there.
Suddenly it gets very interesting.
-
Yes, from what I understand those two bases and a goldmine are the countries main source of income.

Revolution has been started by some Doctor. Im not quite sure, what were his first reason to call for people, but oposition did hijack it a little bit later.
As you can see our freedom spreaders probably dont even know what happen there 1 weak ago.
But currecnt situation is far more interesting. 2 parlaments, 2 goerments im wondering how will they solve it :)

i dont think so .. there are easterns, so all proper Christians are sitting in Churches listening some half-brain dead intelectual speaking about god, freedom and so on. They are bussy right now.
however 99% of US super humans dont have a clue, where is that country nor whats going on there.
But after week or so, they will be back trying to convince us, how cool they are.
-
Just another "Ickystan".
-
Looks like they're working through it without killing each other so far.
-
yeeep on of parlaments gave up and reconized the other early today or yesterday. Just hear it on radio.
-
I suspect any normal person would want a peaceful resolution to the dispute.

The situation in Kyrgyzstan gets more and more crazy, a comic version of fruit revolution...
Nomads riding horces and loading their cars with loot.
Some of them came down from the mountains for free vodka that they give for participation in a "revolution".
People gather in Bishkek asking the "revolution leaders" about what they'll get now, when Akayev ran away.
New internal minister asks Supreme Court for cancelling his 10 years sentence, otherwise, he says, he'll have to rule Internal Ministry from a prison cell.
Old Internal Minister with a beautiful family name - Dushibayev (means "Strangle the Local Rulers!" in Russian) - organises horse squads to go and take the capital back.
No reaction from Moscow or Washington, only mrs. Rice's tedious rhethorics about "democracy". Sounds like her parrot writes speeches for her...
Russian "joke of the week: "Kyrgyzstan Presydental Admymystratyon urgently needs typewryter repayrman"
-
lol
i already hear that somepeople were asking BBC reporters over there.... "ok now we get rid of president, so what ? "
The guy who were supposed to spend 10 years in prison.. do you know what has he done ?

I don't care. Must be something like stealing sheeps or horses, so he's definetly a "prisoner of conscience" and a "victim of a bloody regime". :D
Serious part: Kirgizia declared Russian language as a second official language, after 500,000 Russians fled the republic in the 90s. Akayev is in no way "old Soviet-time ruler", he was elected after USSR felt apart, before that he was a president of Kirgiz Academy of Science.
Interesting that Russian airbase at Kant was on alert only when "rebels" :D started to loot Bishkek.

Sure, we are all brainwashed and only believe what the mass media and movies tell us.

Ok,what i meant is that life over there is not as easy as in US,and you spoiled fat bastage wouldnt make it anywhere exept US for more than a week.
-
Why is it that life is not as easy over there anyway? That's one reason why I would hate to live there.
Russia is a huge country with more natural resources than the US, yet life it hard over there. Why do you think that is?
I'm not "spoiled" and not fat. I weigh 158 pounds.
And why would you personally insult me just because I stated that I would hate to live in Russia or any of it's backward satelites?
Russia is a mess that I'm glad I don't have to live in.
-
NUKE, I didn't insult you personally. I have asked simple question - how do you know that Russia is a mess? Where did you get this secret information?

You Russians are so brain washed! The source of your strong feelings about Americans in not your experience but your governments propaganda.
Stop being stereotypical Russians when you are stereotyping Americans.

Because I was born and grew in Russia, and have been living in Canada since 1999.
So, I have ground to compare.
-
Vad, why did you move from Russia to Canada?
By the way, do you have hot water whenever you want it in Canada?
Boroda was once explaining how he took a bath about once a month or something, because in Russia they don't have the technology to supply heated water in the winter because it's impossible to keep the pipes working.
Another reason why I'd hate to live in Russia. I like to take a shower at least once a day.

Hm. I can't say that I lived in America, but I spent there one month as an exchange student in 89. I remember people being surprised: "Look, they are just like us!" Then look at me and say: "I mean you wear jeans and sweater..." :D
Mass media manipulates modern society all the time. Watching this board (in fact some other places with the same public since 1998) I was able to see it in progress, and people here are intelligent, educated and thinking, I can say - higher then average.
Life in Russia (at least in big cities) isn't much different from US or Europe or any other country. I enjoy it, it gives you some opportunities that are impossible in other places. And I enjoy my freedom ;)

Nuke, you make me think that I have problems with English.
In a country that has winter 8 months long - they have to check pipes, and it takes 3 weeks officially, usually less.
I take shower daily, and I take a bath at least once in 3 days.

You so delicate that you can't take a cold shower? ;) Or simply heat water on gas? :D Americans are strange people. Can't live without warm water-closet :D They have toilet paper (!) and chewing gum (!!!) in Army field rations!!! :rofl

NUKE, you don't want to answer on my qeustion. Actually, it is indirect answer also. All information you have about Russia you got from media.
Ok, regarding your questions. I am programmer, and I move to Canada because here I have more opportunities and better salary. It doesn't mean that I hate Russia or don't want to come back in future. A lot of Canadiens are working in USA, many Americans are living and working in Europe, etc.
Hot water... yea, it is a problem in Russia. Not because of technology, more because of centralization. They don't use home heaters, hot water comes from nearest hydro station.
I don't know where are you living but you have to remember huge blackout 2 years ago when Ontario and the East of USA were without electricity for 2-5 days. At that moment I wanted to take a bath but couldn't. BTW, such blackout is literally impossible in Russia. I remeber the strike of municipal workers 3 yers ago in Toronto. It was a mess I have never seen in Russia! Garbage was everywhere. What else? Liberal election promises? Half a year wating period for urgent surgery? 60% taxes? 600 CAD welfare which is less than rent in the worst district of Toronto? 6000 CAD auto insurance premium per year in Ontario? I have mentioned only problems which are literally unknown in Russia.
But I don't hate Canada, it is wonderful country, I like it. As any other country in the world it has advantages and disadvantages. Believe me, there are a lot of things in Russia what you would like. And a lot of things what you would hate. But to hate something just because somebody told you, without own experience... it is not clever, at least.

They had Russian border guards, but IIRC they were removed because Kirgiz border is relatively safe and they don't need assistance from Commonwealth to stop drug traffic like Tajikistan.
A Russian base at Kant was open no more then 2 years ago. As Commonwealth joint forces outpost. They provide air power to secure Kirgiz borders. They had an invasion of terrorist gangs in the 90s, and they need air support, so - we provide it. Unlike US base that AFAIK is no more then a cargo port supporting US units in Afghanistan.
Russia has military bases only in Georgia (they are in process of removal now), Armenia, Kirgizia and a 203rd division in Tajikistan (that one repelled Taliban from Tajik borders and provides technical assistance to Northern Alliance). Sorry, forgot Pridnestrovie, a Russian anclave in Moldavia, they are being removed now too.
