I find this mildly amusing. There are many posts decrying the left bias of the mainstream media but let just ONE lean to the right and instead of a ballance it's ridculed. What's wrong with this picture??

The so-called "liberal biased media" is a bunch of shiatsu. Who do you think owns these clowns? It's all a crock.

If I can give any props to Fox whatsoever it is that, in their unhinged way, they relish the crockness.

Am I the only one who wishes that the American media would simply bite the bullet and wear their bias on their sleeves like the papers do in Europe? For instance, no one in the UK argues that the Guardian isn't the Labour rag, while the Torrygraph, errr... Telegraph is demonstrably the Conservative paper. The same is true of papers across Europe (although finding right-wing media in some countries is a tad tricky).

What would be wrong, if CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, PBS, the NYT and the LAT simply came out and said Yup, we are the media arm of the American Leftwing, and the Washington Times, the WSJ, and Foxnews did the same on the Right? Oh, I forgot, it might hurt sales... Sigh. Well at least the Grey Lady came out of the closet and the LA Times has come darn close.

BTW - Just out of interest Nash, do you graphics work for a living? I recall Music but perhaps I dreamed that to quote Harrison Ford...

Yeah, Seagoon. Although I do less and less hands-on stuff...

Mostly I just come up with goofy ideas, then yell at the people who bring me the work when it doesn't look like what I think it should look like. :)

Unbiased media is a relatively new thing. I wish I could remember the turning point.... but I can't. Sometime between 1920 and 1940. Before, papers were unapologetically biased.... and it was accepted. Something happened, and shreck me if I can remember what it was... but a whole code of ethics developed and the idea of unbiased journalism became ingrained.

It's unraveling now. I was jittery watching it happen... but I'm at ease with it now. No one else seems to give a shreck.

Thinking about it.... it started in the 50's. During the cold war. It was a matter of out-freedoming Russia's press. Un-biased thruth, and flaunting that.

The subject of ethics is an old sore for ASNE (American Society of Newspaper Editors). Only five years into the Society's existence, the president put the Sage of Emporia, the same William Allen White, in charge of a committee to come up with ethical standards. White reported to the 1927 convention:

After a year's study, the committee has no report because it has no idea of what the ethics of this business is. Old Pontius Pilate had a good idea when he asked, "What is the truth?" Then he washed his hands of the whole thing. We don't promise to wash our hands, we simply want further instructions. It is a large order.

;)  The KU School of Journalism is named for White.

My opinion is that unless you are truely slanted towards the left, you can hardly watch the major network news and not recognize bias.  Of course some can't as they do not realize how it presents itself.

Yes, the major news is biased, sometimes in the extreme.

Fox might be considered biased to the right, and while I may be falling into the same trap as the lefties, but Fox has always appeared closer to center than most.

From my point of observation, those who slam Fox do not give any examples of bias, they just lash out in frustration because Fox does not necessarily represnt their point of view.  That doesn't show bias by the network, it might show balance though.

don't watch any of em?  now you are getting it funked.

I haven't watched the news or read a paper or news mag for a decade or so except for when a major event like a war or election or earthquake happens..  I watch fox during those events for short periods and as soon as they start repeating themselves (no new news on the subject) I switch off.

I watch fox in those cases because the other "news stations" have such a left leaning taint that they are depressing even when the news is good.

I think that is why fox is doing so well compared to others and why newspapers are failing.   I'ts just that most people have a higher thereshold for BS than we do or there wouldn't be so many news stations..

or maybe... people are morbid or love to be depressed?  if news shows all went off the air for a month I bet the use of anti depressants would drop dramaticaly.

dago is probly correct.. fox is right leaning and all the others are allmost communist.   Fox appears centrous by comparison.

Liberals are fond of doom and gloom and guilt so when fox showed up with a less appocolyptic guilt driven show... people breathed a sigh of relief and tuned in.

Fox is getting full aof itself now tho and starting to get as bad as the rest but...

I believe that the reason the lefties hate fox so much is because it has forced the other stations to hide thier socialist commie leanings a little better.

I believe that I said that I watch the news during major events.  The last major event was the election of our president.   I watched then...

At that time... it was very apparent by switching channels that what I said was true.

They could have all changed tho since that time but...

I do get snippets from conversations and links that I may or may not follow on this board.

My life has improved for the better since I  quit watching all television other than sancitioned racing events.  I can usually get through 30 minutes of a movie, but it has to be damn good for me to be awake at the end.  Television is an evolutionary dead end.

What's funny is this thread is just one big liberal complaint about nothing.

Liberal talking points:  "PSST Say FOX is owned by NAZIs"

Liberals:  "OMG FOX IS OWNED BY NAZIS"

The problem is those that blast it never watch it as it is evident in this thread.

I have yet to see one shred of any kind of documentation IN THIS THREAD to back up any fox hater's opinions.

Fox news is ass.  You don't have to be a liberal to realize it.  You just have to have a brain.
