Instead of trying to get the feel of the community through posts and emails, could you guys at HTC just post a poll that registered members could vote on. These polls could be used for the bigger issues, like night time and perking certain aircraft. I know the ability to post polls by normal members was taken away do to the high number of them, but this problem wouldn't exist if they could only be posted by the company.
-
If I remember right sometimes there was HTC polls when you log in the game. Its been a while but anyway.
-
Oh yeah, totally forgot about those. Talk about rare though.
-
Democratic voting... I think I like that idea..
-
The most fickle part of this game are the customers. Why would HT and Pyro want to let them drive their boat?
Ya know, some decisions you may not like, but you maybe think (and here I am talking in-depth total focused concentration) about this game plus or minus 4 minutes per day.
Now I realize this board is populated with game design geniuses and all, but HTC thinks about this stuff all day, every day. Might be they have a better handle on things?
-
No thanks.
There are very few items I would ever trust a vote for.

HT,
Don't think he is saying let the customers decide the course of the company through voting. Looks like hes saying use a poll to get the flavor of popular opinion which sounds reasonable.
-
Thanks for the reply HT.
Yes, rabbidrabbit is correct. I wasn't saying that whatever the vote says be the final decision, just a cold hard way of feeling out an issue.
-
We do polls from time to time, but sharing the results with customers would have lots of detriments, and realy cant see any gain.
HiTech
-
So keep the results private.. What if the majority of people want something, but just arent saying anything.. How is HTC supposed to know about it?
-
Perhaps HTC should host an official poll that only registered members could reply to asking whether or not HTC should host official polls that only registered members could reply to! Anyway, I think that's what I meant....
-
i would say only do polls for new planes htc is thinking about adding. Say HTC feels 5 planes are worth working on for the next release but they can only get 2 done. Poll those 5 planes and see what top 2 the community would want. Keep the results private for HTC only. Then you dont add things which noone wants and you get a feel for what the community would be happy with.

Damn Oregonians. They are such troublemakers:)
:D

And the one thing all Oregonians have in common is they're all from California.

I can't help but think no poll in the bbs would ever be fair or a good reflection of the thoughts and wishes of the MA populace. Out of what, 5000+, we have a few hundred on the board? It'd be more a representative republic than a democracy, and we all know how bad that would suck.
-
Are you saying the people here are not a fair sample set of the whole? Maybe your right, maybe not. I don't see any evidence either way.
In the past there were polls on login if I remember right. I don't think folks were saying that polls should be exclusive to this board. Rather, it would be a good idea to conduct polls to ascertain the opinions of the populace. Whether or not to share the results would of course be up to the taker of the polls either way.
-
I don't know if its the idea that it wouldn't be a fair sample (while I'd bet money it wouldn't, you're quite right that it's not easily proven either way), or that gameplay for all would be determined by the whims of the masses as they frantically log in, as opposed to the people we pay to play this game, and whose livelihood is determined by the decision making processes and their effects on gameplay.
Plus, you're all dweebs, and I don't want you voting for anything that might effect me. :p
-
you defnlty cant poll this BBs...
hell well over half..hell 80%?..dotn look at these boards..good and bad to that.
any polls would defnlty be doen the way HTC has doen in the past..when you Log onto the PAYING site
-
Yeah, that's a great idea but it's those few that post here who are more than likely playing the game constantly. You might as well cater to them, since they would be the only ones that communicate with the developers. If everyone else doesn't like it, then that's just fine. Point them in the direction of the message boards, or (politely) ask them to stop whining about it. The only thing I don't like about the current system is that I feel that the developers are taking shots in the dark about what we (the players) want out of the game. Stop guessing and ask us!
Just a few thoughts from the average joe,

HT wrote this ENTIRE post without even 1 misspelled word!?! wtg, HT! :aok

the way it looks to me, HT doesn't value our opinions on how to make the game better.. it's his game, we're just the idiots that pay $15 a month for it. I don't know about you guys but same old thing day after day is getting old to me. when you look at it it's the same old game with a bunch of eye candy and a few new rides. I miss the good old days of fighter ace on msn internet gaming zone..
-
LOL...Fighter Ace>
And you think the MA is repetitive?
But I think you are right about them not valueing our judgement on how to make the game better. I don't value thier judgment on how to raise my kids, but you don;t see them coming down here and trying to give me such advice either.
See Dale and Doug have been designing and building online flight sims for quite some time now, at least since 1994 and probably long before then. For my $14.95/month I cannot think of any more qualified hands to leave the direction of this game in than theirs. I am not a fanboi or sychophant, I have not always agreed with thier choices either. But when I have over a decade of experience doing what they do and a customer base WELL into 4 digits I'm just gonna have to trust them to do what's right. That has worked so far, AH is clearly the gold standard among MMOL flight sims and it has been since it was beta with 6 planes and one arena.
