heh I love my Benelli. Nothing else shoots like it.

I have owned a total of one trap gun in my life.
I spent about 2 weeks quite a few years ago trying to trade a guy out of a light weight Franchi. I finaly made the trade. I kept that mule with a barrel about 2 days and traded back with a loss. That thing should have been in a picture under the definition of target flinch.

Browning Citori.
I've never ever ever ever ever regretted buying this gun. I used a Remington 11-87 which is my jack of all trades gun (more like a King...but not quite an ace) for everything from upland birds, wetland birds, clay birds on trap & skeet ranges, deer, turkey and the senseless slaughter of the devil...coyotes.
Worked great until I entered my first tournament. No big deal except I entered 16 and 27 yard distances with 100 birds each. Then shot an Annie Oakley after that and the next day I couldn't eat, smile or hardly talk because of the pain on the right side of my face. At that point I began shopping for a target gun that was comfortable to shoot. My uncle owned a Browning Citori and offered it to me to try out next I was in town. I took him up on that and though his was $2000+ new I found a different model in the local Gander Mountain store which had been very gently used and in quite good condition for $700. No case or anything so I built my own wood case, stained it and put in some nice padding and bought a couple yards of this nifty shiny fabric to put inside. I don't remember what it's called but its very soft and looks quite nice.
Anyways...I say you can't go wrong with Browning. If you're ever shopping for a non-target shotgun, (Belgian) Browning Auto-5. Again, I am jealous of my uncle!

Look for Saiga-12. Here they sell for about $200.

It's a Kalashnikov.

Self shuckers are a nice gun but I prefer a stack barrel. You still have the requisite 2 shots but the mechanism is less prone to fouling at inoportune times. By using one that has adapter tubes you can shoot multiple guages of shells through it. I have seen a Krieghoff (sp?) that could shoot all 4 competition guages. I know it is extremely pricey but IMO that is the top of the line.
There are stack barrel guns out there with changable chokes just like other shotguns.

I like the Beretta's. I own two of there trap guns. The prices are all over the board with Beretta, but the quality is great even on the lower end models.
Currentl I own UGB25 Xcel (http://products.berettausa.com/images/immagini_maxi/JUX5T10_ugb_S_maxi.jpg)
I have the 32 inch barrel on mine. As for there cheapest auto model, AL391 Urika is the way to go. It will set you back around 1,100$ new. But I have seen them at Gander Mnt for sale as low as 500$. So look around.
When it comes to Over-and-Unders I go with the 687 Gold Pigeon. (http://products.berettausa.com/images/immagini_maxi/687EL_GoldPigeonII_Sporting_S_maxi.jpg)
There lowest in model O&U shotgun is the Onyx. It will set you back around to 2K mark, but again I have seen them go for as low as 700$ on the used market. So shop around.
-
I prefer the 28" length as the longer barrels don't give an appreciable performance advantage but do make them less "handy" to use. The use of screw in chokes make them much more adaptable to field and competition conditions.

I have the U2 one. It has very intricate carving on it PLUS gold plating. It is extremely well manufactured and works like a charm. 795 Bucks. The best deal you will ever find anywhere.
Do not go with the U4 Target model. The stock is so high your cheek will hurt so bad.

I suggest you go with this. It is one of the finest manufactured Over and Unders you can get for under 10,000 (even though it's only 800 itself).

Green. Shop for the 1100. It has choke tubes and is just what you want. Not cheap, but worth searching for as they have a few models. You don't need the engraved junk.

Check out Bass Pro Shops or Gander Mnt. Both of those places are great for finding sporting guns.

Don't know where you are located but here's what I would do.
I'd go to the biggest/best local trap club and ask if there's anyone there who would help you pick a gun. This person will likely be a competition shooter and will have a whole lot of knowledge about GUN FIT.
Your primary concern here should be getting a gun that "looks where you look", in other words, that FITS YOU.
Even in the less expensive models, there are variations in the three key measurements: drop at comb, drop at heel and pull length. Find out which one fits you best and buy that one. There isn't going to be that much variation in cost on a decent semiauto. So, do yourself a favor; buy the one that fits you best.
Shotgun fit breaks down into five basic categories:
1) length of pull-the distance from the trigger to the rear of the stock;
2) drop at comb-the distance from an imaginary line extending straight back from the rib and over the comb down to the top of the comb;
3) drop at heel-the measurement of this same imaginary line extended even farther down to the heel of the stock;
4) pitch-which is the way the stock "twists" in relationship to the receiver and affects how securely it will fit into your shoulder; and
5) cast-which is the slight bend of the buttstock as it angles either to the left or the right of an imaginary line running down the length of the rib.
Does your shotgun fit? (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3730/is_200309/ai_n9242220)

Maverick, for the longest time I had a Mossberg 500. But then I got that DeHaan for a christmas present. It was the best thing I ever did. My scores went up by 2-4 points. Plus the gun just felt right.
It's tough to switch from a pump to an Over and Under. I used to get 19-22 with my 500. The first 5 rounds shooting with the new gun I didn't break 10.

well..i got a remington 1100 - Sportsman 58
A vetran trap shooter told me I need to fix my butt on the stock..it needs a shim to make my barrel shot higher..Rigth now he says its shootinga a barrlel lo..
But I love it
firts tiem up to the Double Trap i got 41 out of 50..
Got it for $500..from a very good friend

Hmm. Forgot to mention another popular Russian gun, MTs-21-12 (МЦ-21-12).
http://www.rbs.ru/vttv/99/firms/tulaarms/e-mc2112.htm
It's a 12 gauge barrel-recoil semiauto with a magazine under the barrel. Barrel length is an impressive 750mm (30").
Other models (i didn't held them in my hands) are MP-153 (MR-153) and TOZ-87.
