Title: Help getting some things set up
Post by: Jwizzle on March 29, 2005, 07:24:11 PM
I've got a few things I'd like to set up correctly if at all possible:

1.  I have TrackIR 3 with the vector expansion.  I've seen videos of 6DoF working, I wonder what I need to do to enable this.

2.  My Saitek X52 has trim wheels.  Is it possible to map these for trim in AH2?  If so, what would I need to do?

3.  Am I going to get called a noob for flying a Ki-84? :)

....

#1- dunno squat about the TrackIR...

#2- almost Positive you can do this in teh setup/controls/selectinputs screen...
in the center column, select the stick to map... in the left column are the controls, in the right column are the inputs from the stick...

select the control, then the stick, then the input, then hit apply...

#3- doubt it highly, just make sure the tracers & stall limiter are off ...
& even if they do, just keep at it til ya get them on your kill-list... that'll shut um up...

Don't have a Saitek, but the Track IR is easy to set up and use. Simply turn it on, get it set up, and then go to AH. For me, it automatically turned blue (enhanced mode) and worked.

At time, maybe once every 10 times I entered AH, I had to restart the Track IR system, but you knew in the tower at log in if it failed.

Dont know anything about the TrackIR but the Ki84 is definatly not a dweeb ride.

Its a very under rated ride which is mostly flown by very good pilots.

The Trim wheels are configurable... Forget how to set it up, but it can be done.  Was a little tricky if I remember correctly.  If you dont get an answer here, jump in the TA and see if a trainer knows. Think thats where I got my answer at the time.
I dont have Track IR, but I know in the AH2 setup somewhere I saw something you need to check off for track IR3..hope that helps.
Since the trim is preset for use with the keyboard commands, I THINK those have to be disabled somehow in order to get trim wheels to work (once you tell AH to use those Axis's with the wheels)

Here ios a quote from another user that asked the same question a few months ago:

"yes,it's possible. Just go to the "Select joystick" (under the game settings, controls, joystick) and there you can map the rotaries to be used as trims. For example select "pitch trim" from the list and map it to "Rotary 1".

Make sure to hit "Apply" when your done or it wont save it

Jwizzle,
1. I have the TrackIR3 with Vector expansion.  It works right out of the box.  Just install the software according to the instructions, plug in the unit, put on the hat   and go for it.  Just remember you need to have TrackIR running prior to starting AH.  after that it's all automatic.

2.  You need to look at the stick mapping, under Setup.

3. Fly what you like, like what you fly, it's a game, enjoy it.

Thanks, all.

I figured out my TrackIR problem - I had the wrong profile loaded (with only Yaw/Pitch axis enabled, instead of X/Y/Z).

I'll try the trim later, thanks :)

Ya, I just put my X-45 back on and did the set-up I explained to you earlier and got the rotaries to work.  Too bad that I just cannot get used to that stick for combat sims.  Too many buttons and having a rudder control on the throttle just never comes second nature to me.  Too much fumbling for buttons etc= death.  Went back to my trusty Sidewinder.
I even took a plane up last night  and did my first run with combat trim off and tried using the rotaries.  Although the rotaries make adjusting much easier (and very smooth) it really does seem a pain in the arse to have to keep readjusting the axis's as your constantly changing speeds.  Dont know how you aces do all that fumbling and still manage to keep SA..my hats off to ya.
Oh, one tip:  If you have combat trim disengaged, but still have auto take off enabled, you wont be able to adjust trim before or during takeoff.  Once your in the air, it will go to manual trim..  so if you want adjustments before take-off, disengage the auto take off
