What's the little joystick thingy good for?
culero (looking for suggestions)
-
Absolutely nothin'!
Yea, say it again!
-
A couple of folks (I forget who) claimed to have gotten it to work. I think they used it for different things. I tried a few times but had no success.
If you do find out how to get it working let me know. :)
-
you can script it to all kinds of stuff. trim, differential throttle for example. Akak knows more about scripting that than I. Right now I have it set as a pan view controler. I dont use it much, but when I want to zoom in on something thats not at an angle the hat views center on, I can switch to pan, and look exactly where I want.
I had to go in CHctlmgr and assign it the U and V axis's under CMdevice1 to get it availble to use.
-
I use the joystick as a secondary mode for panning around since I haven't got the TrackIR yet. With it setup like that I can hit my hat to get the general direction I want to look and pan around from there with the joystick to get extended views. Release both the hat and joystick and I'm looking forward again.

can you get the gun zoom to work on an axis?
i made my own throttle set up, just took 3 joysticks and gutted them, put em into an old tqs throttle quadrant.
sure would be nice to be able to control how fast you zoom in instead of the slow steady zoom we have with a button.

I saw your pictures. No comment.:aok

I use a button for the z key. I then just hit the button and it gives me a predetermined zoom for close targeting through the sight. I also have a hat on my CH pro throttle I use for manual zoom in/out. As you can I see I can get both functions, a quick targeting zoom and the normal zoom using a hat. While zoom speed is a nice thought we have something that works for now.

The reason I said the mini-joystick is useless is because I have mapped all stick/throttle/rudder functions directly through AH. I can't think of any function it would be useful for either - but maybe someone will share a brilliant tip.
Aces High is very CH Products friendly, so I uninstalled the CH program. Even in direct mode, I found a noticeable delay in input using the CH Manager.
I use a stick button for zoom toggle plus zoom in/out also.
-
I'm a little retarded in a certain way - I find it difficult to precisely control the aircraft with the stick and at the same time use the thumb on my stick hand to manipulate buttons. That's why I've always used the simple old two-button CH Flightstick in my controls suite, and used Pro Throttle for views/flaps/etc.
Now that I've been forced to buy a USB setup, and had to accept Flightstick Pro with its hat switch and 3 buttons, I suppose I'll find some stuff to do there (toggle map view, etc) but I have no idea what to do with the mini-joystick. I may play with pan view there, although I've never liked it using keypress emulation (always used snap view).

Shoot, if I can do it with my 35 IQ, just think what you and everyone else could do...
I hear Shane has extra toe buttons on his rudder pedals - ten little buttons, switches, sliders and hat switches.
It would be interesting to hear how others have their joysticks/throttle buttons set up. I've finally reached the point where I only use the keyboard to type - poorly since it's not too accessible anymore.
I have range and squad vox, zoom, map, bomb bay doors, weapon toggle, elevator/aileron trim, wep, dive flaps, flaps, gear, tailhook, combat trim toggle, level and angle climb auto pilot, 45 degree up views all around, and a button that flashes a red light downstairs for the wife to bring food and beer.
-
Its not an IQ thing, I'm smarter than you and everyone else, I'm just clumsy :D
Seriously, good idea on the sharing thing, once I get the new setup sussed out I'll try to remember to reply.

I wrote a script that makes that thing control all 16 view points. In order to get all 16 you need to have one button designated as a shift button. If you'd like I'll post it here.

Oh, didn't read all the posts,. Y ou will have to create a Control Manager profile to use this.

Somone has it scripted to use with a two engine plane to cut one of the throttles down to 30% to help flip their P38 around faster in the verticle.
thats the only good one ive heard of.
-
I've also read that it can be used as a mouse pointer for the clipboard. I'd like to get that working for mine.

Yeah, I'd be interested in looking at that. Please :)

used to use it for seperation of throttle controls on p38 throttles back one or the other engine to provide greater maneuverability nice for hammerhead maneuver so you dont float at the top and make an easy target like a turkey in a tree.

I've got my mini-stick setup as an 8 way view hat. There's also another script that allows you to use the mini-stick as a quasi-dual throttle. There's a lot of scripts you can download at CH-Hangar (http://www.ch-hangar.com)
OK, the link is fixed. Sheesh, OK so I failed inglish in sckool.

Link no worky ack-ack.
PS... culero I have all USB CH stuff and I use the throttle hat for views. All setup thru AH.

I only use the keyboard for typing messages. Everything else is on the stick. I have a few canned text messages I can send without typing.
In addition to just having everything mapped, I have added a auto film record stop at the end of each flight. Cursor hide button. Channel tuner for vox and text. Special views for dogfight mode. Bomber calabration routeen, GV full-throttle lock... and more.

Culero I do a similiar thing with my Fighter stick for 16 views. I use the pinky button as a look up button. By pressing the lookup button I can then use the hat to look around in 8 views in that axis. It essentially gives you a 16 way option with the use of a "shift button".
My true shift button is located on the throttle. Anytime I hit it this will allow any switch I have to be programmed in two different modes. It's pretty easy to setup in the control manager.

Yeah, I've always used the throttle hats for views on my gameport Pro Throttle, that's what I'm used to.

PS - yeah, the AH keymapper rocks IMO.
PSS - yeah, AKAK can't spell werth she-ite (its hangAr, dood, not hangEr ;))

If you want, I can email you the script to turn the mini-stick into an 8 way hat. With a modifier button set up for bottom and top view, you have all view angles.
