Title: Eagl and others; thank you
Post by: StSanta on April 01, 2005, 09:11:52 AM
I want to thank the people who responded to my thread about dealing with mortality. It helped put some perspective on things.

I didn't think I'd need the knowledge shared in that thread for a good bit, aside from in an "after the fact" sort of way.

But Sunday, I watched helplessly from the air as a good friend turned into the ground. Watched him hit it at the same time as his canopy and I remember thinking "that is not survivable oh f*ck not again". Tomorrow I am to attend yet another funeral.

I've reread the thread and find some comfort in it.

So, my big thanks to eagl and others who expressed their sentiments. Your input is much appreciated.

Be careful out there, and live like life can end any second.

Damn.

Sorry to hear that StSanta.  Two friends gone in such a short period of time has got to be tough.  If there are any younger people involved in your group there, keep an eye on them.  The same goes for anyone who seems to isolate themselves.  Don't let a grieving friend do anything that can't be taken back.

I'm glad I could help even a little bit.

Kinda like playing Russian roulette... Pull the string and hope for the best.
Sorry for the losses but those are almost inevitable in extreme sports. Friend was doing some mine diving while his co-diver went nuts. He had to cut the cord and come back up himself. At least you don't have to think if You could save your friend somehow.

I just saw the fatality report on DZ dot com...I must say that whenever I see something bad happening in Denmark I think about you. It's a bit horrible to realize that I was a bit 'relieved' while reading the report that his jump # didn't match yours.

Some weeks ago the first belgian fatality since I took up the sport occurred on another DZ. It helps me keeping a "this is dangerous" mental attitude.

Condolences to the family and you, and Blue Skies to your friend.
