As some may know, I quit my job and am starting a company with two partners. We will be the Arizona distributor in a certain brand of synthetic grass.
Well, we got some samples of about 20 different types and I took some pics of it today. What do you think of this?
Also, we measured out our first 2 jobs this week, one of which is a 2 million dollar home in the Biltmore area, front and back lawn to be replaced with our product.
A third multi-million dollar home is slated to follow.
Anyway, I'll update you guys and post a some pics of our first job when it's done.
These are pics I snapped today of some of the samples......putting greens and lawn type grass.

Had me fooled. What's it made out of?
I used to play on a field with the nasty old 70's gen "astro-turf." Man did that stuff give a wicked burn when you slid on it.
Hope yours is more knee, elbow, and face friendly.
Godspeed with your new venture.

It's made of polypropylene yarn. It's very soft...even feels like grass. When installed, it's filled with rubber and silicon sand.
Thanks Seagoon.

Nuke did you do a franchise? I am looking at one from a company based in Arizona called Tuff Turf and would like to ask you a few questions. PM me with your email addy or just email me through the board here. Thanks
-
We didn't buy a franchise, we are buying the exclusive distributor rights in all of Arizona for this brand.
We are still just getting it rolling and are not actually in business yet, but I will drop you an email and answer any questions you have about this stuff.
-
CC Nuke. With Tuff Turf I am looking at the franchise for the market here in Alabama as well as the distributor role.
-
Sounds good.
Hey, occurs to me you could get spin off business marketing ride-on mowers with the blade removed to keep the neighbors guessing. :aok
-
That stuff looks good. Ideal for disabled folks - e.g. my ex still lives in the house and likes the big lawn but can't mow it or look after it - she has to pay to get it cut etc. This would be ideal.
Good luck Nuke. :aok

That's not by any chance made by a company in Montreal is it?

Thanks Seagoon.
Looks exactly like the "grass" at Ford Field here in Detroit (Detroit Lions).

You know, Nuke, you make fake pot plants and we'll have a grand ole time laughing at the police choppers and cruisers that show up :)
-
Nuke, got any that looks like st augustine grass?
what do you guys do to prevent real grass or weeds from growing inside the fake one?
ive only seen one type of fake grass in my life and apparently it was such a good copy of the original that grasshoppers and other insects gnawed the grass away... what does your grass have to prevent this?
-
I think it would blow away here like a cheap toupe.

I just want to know if the fake grass also comes with fake chiggers included or is there a charge for that option?
-
I think I had an allergy to that fake grass. Well, maybe it was a false allergy, but I went to a fake doctor anyway, and he gave me a counterfeit prescription for some look-a-like pills that I had filled at an imitation drug store. The fake little sneezing stopped, but I started having fake orgasms with my make-believe wife, who was nothing more than a cheap copy of a blow-up doll.
Then I found a knock off of a replica of a water sprinkler that spread fake water over the fake grass and it seemed to help keep the imitation pollen from spreading. But that didn't last long, so I had faux concrete poured over the fake grass and turned it into a genuine, imitation parking lot.
-
Have the make believe autos shown up yet?
-
Naw... I sold artificial X-mas trees during the winter and made a fortune. :)
-
Nuke, any warranty on how long that stuff lasts?
or better question, about how long does it last?
-
When I was a contractor we were redoing a bunch of hotel rooms and when we moved a dresser it had a sticker on it that said... "this piece of furniture is made from genuine wood grain formica. Accept no cheap substitutes."

You need a side business selling John Deer lawn vaccums that just look like riding lawn tractors.
You may not have to mow it, but you will probably need to vaccum the sand and dust out of it.
Probaby need a scrubber too for the dogs that think this is the perfect place to shxt and pee.

Seagoon,
That really wouldn't work. Outside of a golf course no one in Arizona has a real lawn large enough to need a riding mower. They'd know for sure it was fake if they saw a mower like that on it. ;)
-
Nuke, wehat would make your lawn look really cool is some of those plastic flamingos and a fake birdbath. It would make me look, anyway.

What happens when a dog comes by and deposits a gift? Is it fecal freindly?

naw, not after all the infill is placed.
Just to answer a few questions:
1. It's gauranteed against defects for 7 years, 15 years for fading. For non comercial use, you can expect the stuff to last for up to 20 years.
2. Weeds: we take out any old lawn with a turf remover and go 4 inches down, then treat for weeds and place granit infill over the dirt. This prevents weeds and allows good water drainage.
3. you dont have to vacume it....just use a leaf blower on it.
4. I think I have st augustine...have about 20 different kinds. The most expensive stuff I have is the Kentucky bluegrass for some reason.
5. Pets. If your dog craps on it, just hose it off.....but it's not recommended for a premanent pet area.
Anyway, I'll post some pics of this place we just measured....beofre and after. It's got a huge lawn ( front and back) and the guy is paying $1000.00 a month just to maintain it and his plants/trees.
I'm going to make a nice suit out of the grass too.....so I look like a player.
-
heh then too bad you aint here in florida. I tell ya people HATE to mow the farking lawn in this heat.
Well at least I do. :p

You bet it was nasty.... I still sport a faint burn scar in my knee from a bad slip on that kind of stuff in daycare, about 1978. I remember I cried my lungs out.

whats the price range (cheapest to highest) per square ft/yd?
what would price range be for 1 acre installed?
just an estimate will be fine. (unless you really want to crunch the numbers)
-
Can you play golf on it?
-
Dieaz, I don't have my price sheet in front of me, but it can vary between 3 and up to 8 dollars a square foot installed. Lots of variables though so it really depends.
I actually like our mid-priced stuff the best as far as the look and feel of a lawn. I'm meeting with my partners tomorrow and can give you a better idea of prices if you want.
Curval, yes. Most people that sell it go for the golf market....home putting greens and stuff are popular. We are going to do putting greens too, but our focus is residential and maybe some commerial.
It's funny how the stuff just seems to sell itself. For instance, we looked at an office/wharehouse last week and talked to the agent. She asked what we did and after we told her, she said you would like an estimate on replacing all the grass at that office complex.

Those desert style courses in Arizona seems like a perfect fit though. :)
