I am buying a new gas grill, mine is on it's way to that big back yard in the sky. I know there are lot of guys here that grill out and seem to know alot about the subject. I dont want to spend more than 3K for a new one. I want to be able to use charcoal with it too. I know this is possible with some grills. I want know what you guys would go with? I want it to be atleast 34-36 in length. Thanks.

'BOING'
That's what I call a Grill.
-
That's nice but it needs a wet bar and a built in smoker.
-
Well the last grill I bought was around 2,500$ and it lasted me almost 10 years. So I figure with grills it seems you get what you pay for. Buddys of mine have gone though grill after grill. So I figure I am going to have to spend alittle bit more here, but I wont have to buy a new one every two-three years.

Still no smoker, but at least it has a 42" popup plasma TV to go with the campfire & fireplace. I'd imagine that mini-fridge could be reloaded with tastier carbonated beverages too. :)

btw Kegger, sry for the hijack. My personal reccomendation, with that kind of money to spend, would be to have one custom built for you. There's a bunch of grill places here in Houston that do it, so I don't think there'd be much of an issue finding one in ATL.

Jesus ****ing Christ, you queens should just order in.

I'll give you ten bucks for it.

I love grilling as much as the next guy, but fire burns the same in a $100 grill as it does in a $3k grill. Just sayin'.

yup,
I baught my grill USED for $50. I've spent about $20 modding it (inner grates with briquets and a new "H" style burner for even heat distribution.) and it cooks the juicyest steaks pork chops and chicken.
it's only a 20 incher but I can cook 5 or 6 good steaks at once. More so if I rotated them to the upper rack but I hate cooking like that.
Sidenote: One time my wife pissed me off bigtime because she baught steaks and they were ALL different thicknes. Keeping them warm while cooking them was a pain in the rear to say the least.
-
3K for a grill???
Holy cow, both of my cars combined cost less than that. I’ve got a $5 garage sale charcoal grill with heavy cast iron grates; it does a perfect job… If your 3K grill doesn’t come with a cow, you’re getting ripped off.

Here in the Northeast I need something I can wheel into my screened porch when weather turns ugly and for using in the wintertime. I bought a Weber Summit Series commercial style stainless steel grille last year and absolutely love it. It was a little pricey, around $1700 if I remember correctly, but well worth it for me. I tend to use the grille 3-4 times a week in the summer and 2-3 in the winter.

The secret to a good grill is the burner. That’s usually all that goes wrong with them. I’ve been using the same grill for over 5 years, and I bought it used at an estate sale for forty bucks. Of course it was in sad shape as these cheap ones usually are when they get a few years old. So I purchased a cast iron burner and redid it…. A good cast burner weighs nearly as much as the rest of the grill, but it could last fifteen or twenty years.
And now here is my cheap setup…
(http://goaly.homestead.com/files/g3.jpg)
Side burner?.. I’m not that fancy, I prefer an old Coleman camp stove. And an antique cast iron chicken skillet is the preferred cooking utensil. Tonight it’s “Taters & Onions” fried in pure bacon fat.
The main course, a nice slab of Salmon. Marinated in a mixture of bourbon, brown sugar, soy, garlic & ginger.
Add some cheap beer, and enjoy!
So, if you are asking for my advice, all I will tell you is the burner is likely to be the first part to wear out. Make sure your new grill has a good one.
-
Well I called around to some places here in Atlanta. I found one that will rebuild my old one. Best part is it will only set me back around 200$. They say it will be just like new. So I am going to take it down there and find out. Thanks for the help.
Grills are one of those things I never did mind spending money for. In the spring, summer and fall they get alot of use. Now with my new house and the pool back there, I think it will get alot more use.

The hank hills of the world are latching out at you right now. Propane is the way to go. You want extra flavor in your meat some good briquets are all you need.

I sell Propane and Propane accesories!

I was thinking same thing.
who sells that $3k grill bar? or is it a custom built?
-
yall know it doesn't matter, if it is a gas grill.
it can easily enough, be converted to use wood or coals.
and you can use it as a smoker as well, just depends on how you set it up.

That SL4000 5 burner looks good. If this rebuilding my grill thing doesnt work out Monday, I might have to look into one of those. They seem to have everything my old Altima grill has on it.

It is my beleif that the BBQ reasoning section of Hank`s brain has slowly been degraded and damaged by the afternoon brewsky sections with Bill, Dale and Boomhauer.
Also, Hank just hasn`t been himself since Bobby beat him in the annual propane accessories sales contest.
There is hope for Hank yet though. Last week Peggy was driving a Harley with Hank on the biatch pad. Maybe a little fresh air will bring him around. :D

I have mine hooked to a Natural Gas line, same one feeding the house, never have to fill a propane bottle again (well except for the two on my trailer)....

Why there`s nothing wrong with them Zulu.
Castro uses them all the time.
You might want to take a few of those when you are on your luxurios vacation to Cuba and Vietnam. Give them as a comrad brother gift to the old bearded one and ya`ll can sacrifice a chicken together.

Cooking and grilling/BBQ`n are totaly different things.
Looking at it that way it might suggest that women actualy be allowed to BBQ. The horror. We gave them the vote. Look what that got us. Women must stay clear of the grills and smokers and stay in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant . :D

not arguing bout the women part. for most part none can cook worth a darn.
but not much difference, in cooking and grilling/BBQ'n, to those that do it every day.
point is, gas is less trouble to use.
and if you are in fact a good BBQer. most won't know the difference in what was used to BBQ with.
there IS a difference in a weekend BBQ warrior and a everyday BBQ master.

Phhhfffffttttt.
What respectable BBQ master and call`s himself that would use gas?
Unheard of.
Never ate BBQ anywhere that was cooked with anything other than wood that was anywhere close to being rightly classified as BBQ.
If I was in an unknown area and found a place to eat that was advertising itself as a BBQ restaurant , when I pulled in if I didn`t smell hickory, mesquite, pecan , etc. smoke, I would roll on down the highway.
Your idea and my idea of good Q must be worlds apart.
-
I dunno about using portable throwawy grills in Vietnam or Cuba? but they are bloody usefull things to take on a bike rally or to a circuit. They strap to the luggage rack real nice and I've had BBQ at Spa francorchamp, Le Mans and Assen whilst everyone else was paying for overpriced grease balls at the food outlets.
:D

What's the difference....especialy if you like to actually taste the meat.
You can get all the same effects of charcoal on a gass grill by using briquets. It is less of a hassle and you have better temprature control.
I rarely use charcoal for anything It's LP all the way.
-
Eeeeeeeeeeewwww!!
Screw charcoal son. I`m talking wood here . I say I say ahhhhhhh BBQ wood.
Hickory , mesquite, pecan,etc, etc.
No possible way to get the flavor from gas. If it aint wood, it aint good.

I am a master and I know the difference.
Been Qing for a long time.
When I do the do everyone wants in on it.
I used to hold about 4 or 5 BIG BBQ`s and parties a year when I had my welding shop.
A few of us would get together and put the clean on the shop, drop black plastic from the walls and fire up the pits. I used to cook up about 8 big briskets, some yard bird, ribs, etc, etc.
I had quite a few try to beat my Q and we left the judging up to the peeps that came. I have never lost yet.
One New Years Eve I had bought a hog at the livestock sale. We cleaned that sucker and cut him right down the middle. I put the Super Jackal Qdom on him. The people nearly killed theirselves chowin down. Was told it was the best they had ever eaten by nearly everyone there.
The boys in blue in the county and the small town cops nearby used to love my New Years Eve BBQ bashs. They said they didn`t have to worry where and what everyone was doing. They knew where they would be.
We`d have anywhere from 20 to 50 Harleys out front and around 30 to 40 cars parked on the lease land I had at the time.
I know my Q. :D
If gas is what you have to go with because of city ords, etc , or maybe just convenience then more power to ya. The main thing is your doing it and enjoying it.
For me, I`ll stick to my wood.
-
I always eat at the BBQ joints that advertise "Gas Cooked" rather than "Mesquite Smoked".

A 1200cc Moped ! And yeah I used Hard luggage. Rather than stupid throw over leaky leather, vynil sh*t that anyone can just walk off with. Probably because I use my Bike and have travelled widely on it, rather than strutting my stuff and posing up and down the high street of some hick town, I find that a decent luggage kit is realy good and allows me to bring the food, drink and other stuff you rattled off Jackal1
Oh but of course Jackal1, I'm not a biker! because I actualy ride thousands of miles per year can work on it myself, and live my life on two wheels.

Personally, if you spend $3500 on a gas grill, it will NOT taste better than being cooked on a Vermont Castings which I paid $700 for at Home Depot.
My buddy spent $4000 on his Viking which, as he put "The best grill money can buy". Let's see he's had two years and has had work done on the thing 5 times. He can usually be seen at my house eating grilled food. He's "too proud" to return his "braggart's grill".
It's the Cook, NOT the grill.

actually you woulda seen the first one I posted, the sports bar & grill setup on Monster House. Calspas is one of their sponsors and loves to get their name out there. It takes a crane to move the 3 giant pallets into your average backyard.
Plus.. you need cheap, vinyl flame stickers and a bolt-on wing to make it pimp for MTV.

At least we agree on you not being a biker. I`m proud to see ya making progress.
If you put all the housewares , etc on the damn thing , for God`s sake get a station wagon. You must be some kind of comedy.
I don`t know so much about you living your life on two wheels, but I don know you are hitting on 1 cylinder.

Well..the rebuilding of my grill was a floop. So I have odered the five burner Beefeater. SL4000. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend. But the guy at the place where I took my grill said they were the best in the business right now. Even better than the Altma. I can use wood or coals in this grill too. Which is important to me. So thanks guys.
