Title: For The Love of GOD!!!
Post by: Nomak on April 02, 2005, 09:04:16 PM
Please make it possible to squelch Range Voice.  It is WAY WAY WAY overdue.

Most of the time I play I dont even listen to AH.  I have the raido on.  Only to have a Kick Arse tune come on...... Then these Gomers on Range wont STFU.

Please.....

You can squelch individuals but not the channel, and I doubt that will change as its a COMMUNITY game, and the good chatter really adds to immersion.  Hopefully we can get a persistant (or at least semi-persistant squelch so that if I squelch someone, he stays squelched for a week or at least 24 hours even when I log out and in.

Quit using vox a long time ago, (no...I'm not related to Shane). It's one of the biggest pains in the bellybutton of the game. In lieu of of nothing more constuctive than what I've already said....I concur Nomak.

All of my Check Sixes go out on VOX.  Don't get mad when you miss that plane I saw.

Were someone to ask me, I'd say range vox does more to kill the community than help it. Re: 6 calls - I can do with em. The ones I get are generally because some git wants me to get out of the way so he can hit my target without killshootering himself or they're meant for someone else.
If squelching range vox isn't on, the give us an "squelch the idiot" button so we can squelch them as they come up without having to remember the name, get out of the fight, type it in and then resuming the game.

I use range vox and think it adds to the immersion and game.  I'd go with a .sq dot command abbreviation of the .squelch command.  While it may seem a bit lazy and 'Unix-ish', it would speed up the process.

I too have encountered two or three 'buds' who go on an on about some useless drivel completely unrelated to the game.  I really apprecitate the 5 second limit on Vox!  Stops that awful (often drunken) singing!!

Having a squelch key that was directional so you could squelch the person who is in a view would be cool!  Kind of like a check six, but squelch instead.  Even better.

Title: Designated country chat channel
Post by: Clifra Jones on April 05, 2005, 09:04:28 AM
Instead of asking HT to re-coad the game why don't we as a community designate a country chat channel, say 100. If all you want to do is talk about your dog, wife (these are interchangable), your car, your sex life or any other drivel that has nothing to do with the game then tune to that channel and anyone who is interested in hearing your mindless drivel can tune to it also.

Then those of use who don't want to hear it can berate these fools for clogging up the range channel.

Here we go again with the people that use it, thinking that the people that don't want it should be stuck with it anyway. Could someone explain why to me?  If I want to squelch range what do you care if I do?  How does it effect you?  IT DOES NOT!

Personally, I would have it on most of the time except when my kids are around or even any other people in the room.  So, it it make syou people feel better, it would be on most of the time.  Now canI have teh ability to turn it off please? :lol

Eh, the range vox doesn't bother me too badly, 'ceptin when me an my guys are talking on our squad channel and in the middle of it I have to listen to "Oh yeah man, last night......"  or the erver annoyin' "Hey man did you......."

"Don't worry LS I won't...my 6 belongs to me."

You are SO  "old school"   ;)

(as for the topic. I hated/loved AH's vox. Loved that we had it and it worked so well. But I hated when it allowed the arena gerbils to fill it with incessant political chatter, whine about being shot down, tourettes inspired outburts of profanity and the never ending drone of Duh_G3n3ralZ spewing "orders" to the annoyance of the other captive-to-vox players near them. It got to be a full time chore manually squelching players. Many were the same people each time I logged)

I wouldn't mind the Chatty Kathies on range vox if their talking didn't disable all other sounds.  I rely on sound as a component of my situational awareness, and when you've got guys talking about last week's exciting episode of Little House on the Prairie, it removes the usefulness of that component.

Range Vox is one of the best features in game.

I hate people who are arrogant and dont use vox. Communication is a key part to teamwork. There are soo many players out there who rather use you as bait then communicate that target on your six.

For christ sake tell me where you want me and I will bait for you just let me know he is there.

Though at the same time I hate the other arrogant group who wount shut up on Range Vox. For chatting with firends there is a custom Vox channel. USE IT.

Cluttering Range with BS is equaly useless as players who wount say a word.

Not saying you should be stuck with it. Only looking at this from a coading standpoint. To me this doesn't warrent taking up HT's time when there are better things for them to be doing. Just trying to suggest more workable alternatives.

As far as the potty mouthed pinheads there isn't much that can be done about that. If HT or one of his crew are online and they hear it then they can deal with it as they see fit. I sure don't want to have to have someone on line all the time to be our mommy telling us to watch our language.

Lol  Tex , my computer is in an alcove in the TV room.  I have to wait until everyones gone to bed before I can use vox, otherwise the kids look at me like I'm some kind of fruitcake, talking into the computer.   :)  Wife just looks at me like I'm some kind of fruitcake anyway. - vox or no vox.

CJ ,

I really don't care if HT can hear them and ban them after they just tought my kids some new words.  There are serten times - very few - that I would like to have range off.

As far as workable alternatives, this change is probably the easyest thing ever asked from HT to coad.  Why not work on something people want?

What I don't get is that this is one of many threads about it and HD has not commented on it.  A yes, no from him would end this threads.

And let's not forget to say all those important realism and immersion things twice on range vox.

And let's not forget to say all those important realism and immersion things twice on range vox.

I don't tune to some other vox channel at the same time I use range vox.  So, if I don't want to hear any vox, I turn the vox volume down.  There is a slider bar in the voice settings.  I think the sequence is esc->settings->voice and there is the slider bar.  Was the idea to have the range vox off but leave the tuned channel vox on?  Seems if you are going to listen to music while flying you would not want any voice, but then I don't listen to music while flying.  I would think range vox could be a channel on vox that can be tuned to or turned off.  But then if you only have one channel at a time for vox, why not just turn down the voice volume?

Thats funny :rofl

No, really.  I do not use range VOX unless i absolutely have to.  I mostly use the private VOX.  Though the option to SQUELCH range would be a valid sugjestion for HTC to consider.  I ususally have a head set on (Mic and Phones combo) so no one can hear buy me so to me It really doesnt matter.  Though I will say that I have heard some really young sounding voices on it (perhaps 6-8 years old) and they do not need to hear the fowl language.

You know.. if you quit flying in the HORDE, there are no annoying clowns on range channel.

Get with your squad and fly to the enemy where the rest of your country isn't fighting them.

Here is an example.  I log in last night, take off, no one in the room, 2 mins into it, my 5 year old daughter shows up, 2 secs later JB73 desides that someone was using him as bait and starts talking in French.  I don't  want him or anyone else to stop or change they way they talk.  I just want to have the choice of when to hear it and when not.  If I could turn range on and off at will, I would have had it off while the kids are awake.  If not, then it would be my fault/responcibility.

A toggle for range that we could bind in keymapping would be fantastic. Range channel is increasingly filled with garbage during peak hours, and its driving me nuts. Being able to hit a combo of keys and mute range while keeping squad channel open would be a godsend, certainly far better than having to manually squelch a dozen people every time radio traffic picks up.

anyhow, just my $.02.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize this was a 'permasquelch' thread. I had thought permanently squelching certain players for offensive chatter and turning range comms off were 2 separate things.

I'll also grant that when I wrote that, there were only a few. Now, I can't hear what's going on half the time, because there's some assinine barrage of random info filling the radio.

Again, its not due to offensive speech, or my desire to have players permanently squelched. But when I can't hear a word of squad channel, or get relevant info from range, its serving no purpose for me. Granted, there are times when range is very useful, and other players (and even a few squads) who use range effectively. On those occasions I want range on. For the rest of the times when its nothing but noise, I'd like to turn it off.

Yesser!

I've asked for this option time and time again on here. With no reply from any of the crew at HTC.

For some, their "gaming experience" may be to chat with everyone around them, and make nice, hold eachothers hands and like Leviathn said, talk about Little house on the prarie episodes.

I on the  other hand do not care about these people or what they have to say. I dont like anyone, nor like to hear anyones voice through my headset. Hell I dont even like to hear myself, which is why I dont use VOX.

Not everyone who plays this game does so with a side intent, of finding that best buddy whome they can share their days turn of events with.

I am in agreement with you.  I asked for this future time and again only to be attacked by people.  The last attack on my request was by HUB so I found it funny that a couple of weeks latter he changed his mind and thought it was a good idea to have this future because some one was talking not dirty, but too mach

In anycase, squelch or perma squelch work after the fact (you know, a 3 year ols asking you what !^$@^%^%! means and why is this guy screaming ?).  I want the ability to turn off VOX.  Heck, half the time is broken anyway, all I ask for is the ability to break it at will :lol

Christ man, time for you to come out of the closet.

If you cant be your self (geekarsefruitecake) at home infront of your loved once how could you ever be your self?

I think its time for you and your family to attend to G.A.H.F.A (Global Aces High Fruitecake Association) meetings so you and your loved ones could discuss these issues in a professional forum. Maybe after a few years both you and your wife will attend the G.A.H.F.A Pride Parade proudly wearing nothing but flight sticks and headsets.

Yup I'm for it as well.  I can normally tolerate it, but if there are a bunch of guys at a base, and they start clammoring about fighter hangers, VH, GVS, where the goon is, STOP PORKING, why the troops died, Why Michael Landon died, Moph's underwear color...

I just can't squelch all of them and still fight at the same time.  If there were one button that would be the r0x0r.

I really can't say it would hurt gameplay.  Fly with some of the guys who have posted on this thread... They may not talk much, but you bet they will give you a chk 6 when someone is on your tail.  Lots of times f6f's will give me fits because I can't see my low 6 well in a furball, and when someone gets on me I can't see, my buffer fills up when I'm flying with good company.

I use range to call out planes from time to time, but I don't have a preference doing it with the apostrophe key or range vox... Definetely a good idea Nomak

I just have my squad use our squad chan. I tell them to ignore all the range commos, and only listen for that "beep" of one of our guys talking. Myself or my XO will hit the range chan if we need to give someone a heads up, or ask if they need help. But that is it.
In a dog fight we have one guy fly high cover on us, myself and my wingman will work a plane over. So the only real commo that is taking place is our high cover guy, telling what is going on above and behind our fight. That and me and my wingy calling in & out on a fighter, this way one of us is always high, while the other is low. Works really well for us.

Because I would hate it for my child when she gets older to read some of the stuff being said.  But I guess your  opinions on this issue relate to your being a parent or not. :aok

I don't know JohnnyRa well. Considering there were a grand total of 4 people in the area and no fighting, I fail to see how saying  I'm gonna land out of boredom is being a "chatty Kathy". Guess you -really- need a range vox toggle command. :)
