What if you sold a piece of computer gear to an AH member and gave him both a great deal and time his finances to recover from the holidays. Then after sending two e-mails asking for payment and being promised a check that has never been recieved?
Would you:
1. Flame him on this board and name him so that others don't get ripped.
2. Wait another three months hoping that he'll remember that he never paid for the gear and will send the check when he realizes his mistake.
3. Make a lame attempt on the board to embarass him anonymously hoping for him to correct his ways and send a check.
4. Forgetaboutit.
What would you do?
-
Call him out in person...One to embarrass him...two so none of us sell anything to him:aok
-
3. Make a lame attempt on the board to embarass him anonymously hoping for him to correct his ways and send a check.
Looks like your doing step 3 right now ;)
do you have his number? Call him up if you do. If not keep the emails up (squeaky wheels get greased)
If all else fails THEN I'd flame him on the board......but....that's probably not the most SC way to do it
(SC = Skuzzified Correctness)
and I dont mean that in a disrespectful way either
-
Would this guy be in JG26...oops!:D
did i guess right?;)
-
Hire a thug and have his kneecaps busted... then flame him here.
-
I would tell everyone his name so others (your friends) dont get ripped off as well.
-
If he can't pay for it, maybe he can atleast afford the shipping to return it to you?
If he can pay, then they are scum and practice bad business.
-
Give him 10 days to pay...if he does not, let the flame war begin!

Sounds like my old CO. He did just that to 4 guys in my squad.
I bought a 256mb ram stick and a GeForce 5200 from him. I had to upgrade the VC so I could play AH2. I finally got the VC but never got the RAM. I'm out $70. This all went down last summer.
Two guys bought computers from him and one guy waited 6 months or so to get his. I'm not gonna mention any names but he is a Bish and flys for one of those JG type squads.
-
Why should you feel bad for naming them? They ripped you off..
Put their names here, see what they have to say.
-
does he have 500 hours in a P-51? ;)
-
Boardflaming would only make you look like a eunich to the board. Waiting 3 months would only make you look like a eunich to the debtor. Maybe using that newfangled telephone thingy and talking to him/her would be the way to go. If that fails, you could tell his/her Mom.
-
or just post their names in here :D
-
If you are close enough to do so, file a small claims suit in the county he lives in. If not and it's a long distance away cut your losses and consider it a lesson learned. :(

Small claims would be a waste of time and more money. I think it cost somthing like 60$'s plus another 38$s to have his local sheriff's dept serve the notice. However if you did do this and he didnt show up, then you could pay a collection company a few hundred dollars and ruin his credit...on second thought. Just post his name on here, the items he got from you, so this way ppl wont do business with him again.
-
Small claims is a joke for small sums , it will cost more to file the claim than you will collect, if you collect.
-
and if you lose..you get to pay the court fees too
-
He didn't say how much the equipment is worth so value judgements are inappropriate. Small claims fees vary by jurisdiction. It is a legal way to force payment, hopefully he had a contract on paper.
My suggestion is a means to recover funds and at the very least is a viable one (depepnding on the conditions as I mentioned in my first post) other than several other posts on this thread.
-
You obviosly have his address to send him the stuff.
Send him a certified letter from the US Mail that requests payment. In this letter, tell him he has 10 days to respond with his intentions then you intend to let others know.
Otherwise, suck it up and count it as a lesson earned.
I had a similar occurence with an individual asking me to hold some merchandise as he was being deployed and his "aunt" woiuld send payment. Well, I did, she sent a couple of emails, no payment. Then he called me, seemed real nice, I even sent him a self stamped envelope to send the payment....
Guess what, no payment. I still ahve the merchandise, but, I passed up on some sales to others because of this guy. So, gues what, I was the monkey for being nice, either way, I consider it not worth worrying about, so I said nothing more.

Bodhi
Do you still have any Armor planes?

Hehe, beat me to the question. Was just about to ask him

You should mention names. Prevent him from ripping off anyone else in the community. Same for MrLars' customer.

Now I hope you are not referring to anyone in our squad, cause I would like to know if you were.

Sux ML....just got ripped off to the tune of 4 Grand myself. At this point I think this post is the perfect way to begin your effort. Good luck and
! old friend.

Number one is not an option. While it sounds like it could be a good thing, the truth is, we have way too many drama queens on this board who could not take the information as provided without making it a long drawn out flamefest.
Do not post names.

Your recomendation has been noted.
Since I have no phone number for this person, I've done the only thing available to me and sent another e-mail. If that fails and IF you are saying that I'm not allowed to reviel his name then what would you suggest I do?
I can see now why AH doesn't have a Hardware For Sale forum.
-
While I sympathize with your situation, there is not much that can be done here.

This is kind of lame. You could at least post his name so no one else gets burned. Then lock the thread so it doesn't drag on.
If it were me I would do like Bodhi mentioned. Give him one last chance to make good and then once his time has expired I would post his name and protect the rest of the community from such a scumbag.
-
Oh yes, lock the thread and next week someone comes along and another thread gets started again about it, and someone else gets accused, and so on and so forth. Ever hear of Voss?
How many people cannot let that go? No, it is not lame. It is not in the interest of HTC to have the board saturated with Voss-like threads.
And once you post his game name, he will change it anyways, but that will not stop the lynch-mob-like mentality of this board from persecuting anyone that remotely smells of this person.
Do not post the name.
Mars, open your own bulletin board if you want to run one. Until then, quit trying to usurp ours.

Never heard of him. Is there a story behind that name? :D

Ya should have used PayPal. :)

I really don't think your BB will be filled with millions of people posting about getting duped. Unless you think all of your community are crooks. On the contrary, I think the majority of the people in the community are decent people, fair and honest.
I would think it's not in your interest to have guys out there stealing from your customers, especially when it could be stopped.
Yeah I have seen the Voss threads and I am glad that I am now informed rather then kept in the dark only to let the types like Voss strike again.
Your worried about a little drama, which costs little, while your customers are getting ripped off by other customers, which could cost alot more.
I don't want to start a fight with you Skuzzy, so this is the last I will say on the issue...
As a customer I think it is lame that you would let the crooks in your customer base stay hidden to avoid a little drama, thus leaving the rest of us at risk. If someone cheats you ban them, shouldn't that go for stealing too?
-
Well That kind of thing stinks.
I must confess I thought this web community better than that. but then every community has a bad penny.
I have to agree with Skuzzy though.
If you have his real name and contact details pursue it that way.
-
Mars01, in your own way you just verified what I said would happen.
We are not the judge and jury. We are only involved as someone came to our board to post about it. This is how it all starts. It goes downhill from here.
