Title: BBS time zone needs adjustment

Hey Skuzzy, I know this is a minor detail, but can you fix my time zone?  It adjusted my time an hour forward and now the BBS time isnt equal with mine anymore.  Thanks!

ummmmm...you aren't by chance in an area that  switches to daylight savings time are you?

The BBs time is actually GMT (Zulu for us old farts). It doesn't change.

Nope.  Hawaii doesnt change.  I checked my settings, it says "Hawaii (GMT -10)" which is what its supposed to be.  But for some reason the BBS now reads an hour ahead of my time.

Uh... change your setting to match correct time? Daylight Saving Time is probably not modeled correctly in this BBS software.

This is something I have often commented on in various forums over the years.  They always say that all times are in GMT (though you do get an option to choose your own time-zone off-set), but the fact is during Daylight Savings they are not!  As I am in the UK, I have my time-zone set to GMT, but right now my BBS time is showing as GMT+1.  In other words, it is showing the correct current time for me, but it should in fact be showing an hour earlier than my current time to be truly on GMT.  

As a Radio Amateur, I have to fill my log-book in in GMT and am used to the fact that during the summer months I need to take an hour off the local time for it to be correct.  

The confusion with GMT, which is supposed to be a time standard, is the main reason I never use it to advertise events.

So how are you advertising? +5 for DFW now that's Daylight Savings Time?

We always use the current Eastern time - EST or EDT - to advertise events.  I tend to just say Eastern, but I usually give UK and CET equivalents for European-timed events too....  :)

Thinking about it.... I also play Second Life which is based in the Pacific time-zone.  In Second Life, the current Pacific time is always shown in the top corner of the screen, and all their Events (which are listed in-game, but edited via a web-page) are given in Pacific time. The advantage of this is that no matter where a player is in the world, they just have to look at the time in the top corner of their screen to check against the times given in the Events list to find out what is on.  There are numerous events going on every day there, though.  :)

The time on the BB does reflect daylight savings time.  The purpose of the GMT, in this case, is just to let you know the difference from GMT, but is not reflected in the actual time displayed.
Not much I can do about it.

Ah.  So when daylight savings time is in effect, the only way I can get the BBS to display the correct time for Hawaii is to select a time zone other than "Hawaii"?  Which in this case I suppose would be whatever is GMT - 11..........

Like Flossy has done, I think it's more important that one would worry about their time compared to posted events times. You take the GMT times out of the equation.

We use GMT to for flights but we also fly around the world nad have to use a common time.

This being a game, it would appear more important to know that some scenario begins at 7pm CT or ET or PT, whenever. It only takes a second to add or subtract a few hours to come up with the correct time.
