Yep Lanc only had a pilot with a flight engineer to help out.

The British were alot stronger than the Americans ;)
-
Thanks Guppy, that was very cool! :)
I wish museums would do more panoramas like that.
-
Anyone else notice the arm rests? Don't know why but I can see a refined english gentleman having tea while flying over germany.
:rofl
-
That seat also looks darn uncomfortable to me, I hope they sat on their chutes!

According to History Channel, "Because of the lack of room at each crew memebers station, crews did not wear their chuts, instead they stored them in the plane. that why they lost so many crews".
-
IIRC, I read somewhere that the Flight Engineers were given basic flight training, and in an emergency (pilot out of action) could land the planes.
I wonder what the little fold-down seat beside the pilot is for - crew members who wanna have a look see?
-
Some one send this to Hitech. The Lanc badly needs updating in the game.
-
Hey that pilots seat came out of an MGA. I had one just like it, but it didn't have the armrest.
-
But Im sure the pilot did sat on his chute? Take a look at the pilots seat, you can see it's a little deeper. It would be highly uncomfortable to sit on that without something to sit on!
-
He did!
-
Very Cool! I cant stop looking around. lolh
-
Now that is cool Guppy35!
-
Awesome, whats that plate type thing behind the pilot? a really uncomfortable carnival-type head rest? Really awesome view at any rate however.
-
I think that plate is there to keep the back of his head from getting holes in it. :D
-
I didn't expect the armored plating to be that big....and yellow...

The plate looks a little thin for armor to me, I can see the 7.7mm easily penetrating that, 12.9s would go through it like paper.
Someone needs to draw a smiley on there.
-
That is awesome.. anymore?
-
Very very cool indeed!!!!

Yes they are ALOT stranger. :lol
-
LOL yeah that is a good point Ed hahaha.
-
There is a website that also has a view like this for B-17 cockpit.
The reason so many bomber crews were lost is due to the centrifugal forces that pinned everyone down.
-
This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen on the intardnet. Tx Dan!
Also, i'm guessing that jump seat next to the pilot is for the engineer during startup/takeoff/landing. I notice there are quite a lot of switches/levers/buttons that would be damned near impossible to operate from the pilot's seat. Dang, this is cool, but you'd have been hard pressed to get me in that big of a greenhouse with enemies around. That'd have to be terrifying, nothing at all to hide behind, but a thin sheet of perspex. Eeek
-
Where is the link to that B17 website Sun Tracker?
-
sure has good visibility for a bomber.
