Title: Let the fun begin!
Post by: Elfie on April 05, 2005, 03:27:36 AM
Almost 2 years ago I set out to stockpile 20,000 perks so I could buy the Messerschmidt factory that builds ME-262's. Periodically along the way I would treat myself to a perk ride or 3.

When I logged tonight, my last sortie (2 B-24's, 2 B-17's) put me at 20,001 perks!

I have decided to not limit myself to just ME-262's. I probably wont fly the SpitXIV much, but the Tempest and F4U-4 will see heavy use along with the Messerschmidt. :D

Why fly a 262 when you can fly a Tempest?

That's what I want to know...

Tempest = God

You can buy 3+ Tempests for the price of one 262...No offense to the jet jocks but the 262 is not 3 X better than the Tempest...ummm Tempest please!

  la7   358    without wep 380 with wep

this is based on over water add 2k alt tempest increase to alot fast than la7.

Well I'll leave the skills to the more appropriate pilots ;)

20-25 MPH Difference Rod,  not a staggering amount, you would expect alot more in a perk plane.

Like four 20mm Hispano cannons sporting almost 600 rounds of ammo?  Better acceleration than the La7?  And better instantaneous turnrate and high speed handling?

This is nice and all, but the man whoom created this post chooses to spend his points on his ride of choice, thusly he will take the 262, granted we all have our favorites (109E-4 and F-4)  but he has chosen the 262 as it said in his title. :)

I can go on and list advantages,  disadvantages.. etc  But it's not going to prove anything,  you have your matter of opinion I have mine.

All im insisting is that the La-7 isnt too far off from being a Russian Tempest.

Think that answers it :)

You guys have no idea how hard it was to NOT select perk rides in the hanger as I got closer and closer to the 20,000 mark.

Interesting thing happened on this *Vision Quest* (as Lizard3 puts it heh). I chose rides in the MA based on how high the ENY rating was (just to accumulate perks faster). I found out I really like the 109F-4, Hurricane IIC and P47D-11.

It might not be too far off, but it is not as good.  The Tempest is the better overall plane when you add advantages and subtract disadvantages.  At some point you must draw the line between what constitutes a perked plane and what does not, and HTC has decided that the La7 falls just outside the perked plane category.

i caught a tempest on the deck in an la7.

it was a 2 sector run flat over the water, finally a hill in front got me the closure from 600 to 400 for the kill

reason i caught him was i was fresh with full WEP which lasted 3 times as long as the tempest's, and i dove from about 2k above to start the closure. after about 3/4 of a sector of him pulling very slowly away i started gaining (i was manually trimmed too)

by 1.5 sectors i was within d1.2k by 2 sectors i was up to 600-800 away before i ran out of WEP.

And here all he had to do was reverse to you, use his superior high speed turn to try a deflection shot, and if he missed use his better acceleration to disengage and create even greater distance between the two of you.

Silly Tempest pilot.  :)

reakon would you beat me in your tempest if i was in an la7 in a co-alt fight?

not challenging you obviously just hypothetically.
Title: Let the fun begin!
Post by: Shane on April 05, 2005, 03:46:40 PM
That's too complicated.

All he really needed to do was reverse and kill the LA7, preferrably with a HO.

:D

and yeah, bat, the temp owns the la7 1 v 1.

I didnt label the La-7 "AS GOOD" as a Tempest,  I was merely stating that it isnt that damn far off.  Just stating that for the Perk Price of the Tempest,  I'd rather fly the La7.  I am not insisting that the La7 should be perked,  all I've been saying is that the I would rather choose an La7 over a perk plane such as the Tempest.  Again it's just me.

I'm just curious why wait till 20,000. It's almost impossible to burn perkies unless you just suicide em. I dont think I could lose 20,000 perkies in a year.

Almost impossible? I have already lost 2 -4 Corsairs. First one to a disco (read UDP session lost) and another to rediculous puffy acks.

I almost never lose UDP but lost it on my first perk flight :lol

i lost 1100+ perks in 1 night to dumb stuff:

262 @ 390 to manned 5" passing a CV
262 @ 400+ to another 262 in a 2-1 all 262 fight
262 @ 300+ to an la7 chasing me NOE while landing, not one of the 10 in the area saw him either

that was all in 45 minutes LOL

tis very easy to lose perks quick if you fly anything other than timid 30k bnz

Hard part so far seems to be getting people to fight. As soon as they see its a perk plane they dive out to friends hoping to drag you to the deck so you can get ganged.

Im not sure if I would agree with you 73, when you say "very easy to lose one" flying otd or close to it.

Imo the best way to get kills is to fly it otd in a furball at topspeed in and out and caping the ones who aren't looking. Sucks for them but thats' their bad for not looking. Anything trying to dive on you, is going to have a hard time keeping with you in any evasives you pull at high speeds because for one, your otd, and he's got nowhere to go excpet to pull out of that dive and try to stick with you (which he most likely wont be able to) or zoom back up and lose any or most of the E advantage he had. (If he was closing on you the first time and zooms back up, he wont close on you as fast the second, third ect)  And you can pretty much counter the BnZ dweebs if you see em coming. And if you dont see em. Well, you should have.

At most I'll keep maybe 5k under me in a jet staying at 350-400mph.

Sadly, the jets have lost their Nut in AH2. Something about them isnt the same. It feels like they've gained weight since AH1. It could be me, but thats how it feels.

I used to fly them alot in AH1. And I really wouldnt be afraid to turn fight in them givin a 1v1 maybe 2v1 op with the right conditions. Now I wouldnt think of it. Not like I used to anyways. Again, they just feel way too heavy to me. Much heavier than they used to.

I never fly perk rides any differently then regular planes....

last one I lost was a spitXIVright on the deck in a furball....leftfoot reached out and touched me on a high deflection snapshot and ruined my day. I happened lose a tempest (almost never get dinged in em) to cobia...the SOB actually got me in his A-20....easily one of the most embarrassing moments of the year:):).....

But I've flown tempests never going over 10k and think I was 35/1 (cobia being the 1) that tour....

hehe, most players dont expect a jet to enter a slow turn fight. Its the element of "wtf" that allows you to gain the upper hand most times.

Altho, anyone like you, whos got experience, should eat a jet alive in a turn fight like that after it goes beyond a certain point. I think it was me missing two or three shots that set it beyond that point to where I got too slow and lost. Was a good fight, and I dont have many fights that I remember really.

Hey Elfie, It seems Hurri 2c would be best ride for Perkhoging, but isnt C205 better than 109F-4? Also Ki-61?  I love the F-4, but without gondolas I don't think I have ever landed more than 2-3 kills.  You fly with gondolas?

Also, Has anyone ever accumulated more perks than this?  I thought 2,000 was a lot.  Have fun, and I would fly the F4u-4 if your asking.

I normally do NOT load gondolas in the 109F. The only way I load gondolas is if I know I am going after bombers. I have landed up to 7 kills in the 109F before w/o vulching. 10 with vulches (last kill was airborne and got pwned with the 7.9mm mg's >:-)  ) Think I have the film with the vulches, most were vulches but a couple werent.

109F has an ENY of 43, higher than any of the other planes you mentioned.

I think Leviathn (for one) has more perks than I do.

To me the 2 best perk builders are the -1 hog and the Ki-61....

You can fly the -1 hog with 50% and a DT and have huge range with a plane that has both speed and suprising T&B capability. The Ki-61 has even better range with same 50% + DT's and is suprisingly lethal...only shortcoming is pure speed...your simply not going to run away from the horde...on the flip side its not a plane anyone fears so you get alot of attention :)
