NASA has approved up to 18 more months of operations by the twin rovers that have discovered evidence of a watery past on Mars.
I love these little robots :)
Mars Rover keeps on roving (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1894&e=4&u=/ap/20050406/ap_on_sc/mars_rovers)
Its a shame the Beagle didnt make it, we could have a lot more information about Mars coming back.
-
I follow the progress daily, its amazing two robots designed for 90 days have swung thru a year on that climate.
Seems everytime the solar panels acrue some dust, a dustdevil clears em off, so power remains good

Just think, without all this idiotic wastefull spending on weapons we could have real live earthmen on Mars instead of robot buggy things!
-
Mars is wasteful spending...lets fix some stuff here instead of putting billion dollar RC cars on a dead red lump of rock.
-
Sure. Let's stop spending all money in space research. Heck, Lewis & Clark should've been disbanded...big waste. Same goes with Sir Hudson, Columbus, etc etc
I'd rather have a viable space exploration program that inspires myself and others, including children, to keep reaching. Sticking ones head in the sand and yelling "waste waste waste" is just plain silly.
-
Theres plenty to do around the planet right now as it is...an unfinished space station...in bad disrepair...a replacement for the Space shuttle..etc....why waste money now on a planet that we will be unable to reach feasibly for awhile...Mars will always be there.
-
Amazing considering the warrenty of these lil buggies was only 90 days - and we're past 1 year already.

ok then, In awhile from now when the sun expands and envelopes the Earth they can just say "Too bad we didnt continue the space program way back when." But thats for the future to worry about huh ?
-
Ya knw...I highy doubt I'll be here..In fact I know I won't...my Grandchildren won't...so what does that matter? Geez..all I said was fix stuff at home..including our space stuff here..maybe our entire space program...and wait awhile on mars...It's not going anywhere.
-
ASTAC, NASA is, IMHO, the leader in space technology. Our disrepair is the leader of modern sceince. Oh wait, the Chinese just put their first person into space, their real close to putting r/c cars on mars.

We really have not spent that much money on this project.

Doesn't matter... the money should be given to the poor so thier kids can have a chance to grow up and drive covered wagons.

No, we shall save the Covers for the wealthy! The Po people get No Covers on their wagons.

99% of the earths seas are still unknown to science.

Another pair of amazing spacecrafts are the Voyager probes.
FOR 28 years, NASA scientists have been receiving data from the twin Voyager probes that are now nearing the edge of the solar system. The Voyagers achieved their goals in the 1980s, but both can still send highly prized data until they exhaust their plutonium power sources in about 2020. They can, that is, if NASA continues to fund the engineers and scientists who receive and analyze the data. NASA leaders should reject a plan from NASA's Earth-Sun Exploration Division to eliminate the modest $10 million spent on Voyager annually.

bet we have destroyed a bigger percentage than we actually know about...
i blame finland! Saatanan Kakarat!!

These little guys are a marvel in engineering. No way they should still be running. And that goes for the Voyagers too.
Amazing stuff. I would rather spend a dollar on them than on some of the things we do spend it on.

LOL , where you can find stuff like that?

we cant simply mount a polaroid on a rocket and fire it at the oceans...

NASA is a bunch of silly incompetent nerds. Put out a $50 million prize & you can be on mars yourself in a few years. NASA will just do the job of scattering your ashes, probably prematurely.
