I just installed a DVD Burner... it's a NEC 3520A, an OEM drive. Anyway... It didn't come with any software, but I found some software that I can use to burn with it (CDBurnerXP (http://www.cdburnerxp.se/)), and it seems to work well.
The one feature that is missing, that I used to have with a CD burner is the ability to drag, drop, and burn via the Windows explorer.
Am I missing something? From what I can tell, there's no need to install special drivers (I could be wrong).

I have to say it's beyond my imagination why someone would like to use Exploder for burning DVDs (btw I think it was built-in feature in XP-Pro.
Anyways similar feature can be found from Easy Media creator from Roxio and is named "Drag to Disk". Proggie puts a small "thingie" in lower right screen and if you drag a file to it it burns it to the disk.

For the record: Personally I like "Nero Burning Rom (http://www.nero.com/en/index.html)" much more; works like a charm compared to Roxio's Media Creator.
For DVD backups use DVD-Shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html)

Some of the non Windows native drag to disk software can cause some oddball drive problems.

Well... I wouldn't use it to burn a DVD for movies, but it's convenient for backing up data files.
I have XP-Pro.

Staga must hate you. I would not recommend using Roxio to my worst enemy. It will make a mess of your system. It is highly intrusive. Replaces system DLL's with its own and so on. And as an added bonus, the de-installer will not correct the damage done.
Nero works well enough and is properly written so the OS knows about it and can move it when it needs to.
One thing about DVD burners is you need to set the region code if it is not set. XP gets really pissed off when the region code on a DVD burner is not set.
You should be able to check it in the hardware device manager.
-
Yeah... I set the region code right after I installed it.

Dear Skuzzy; I thought "...works like a charm compared to Roxio's Media Creator" would be enough but if not I promise to make myself more clear next time
Anyways Nero is the one I'd recommend; it's easy to use, stable and has everything one could ever need except coffee-maker.

Oh poop. Sorry Staga. My apologies for the misunderstaning. Well, that means I owe you a drink, and I have been doing so well this year.

We had nothing but issues with Roxio since day one. New PC with DVD burner came the other day and only Nero is allowed on it. We do large data backups on it and it works great
Our Dell came with some "Record Now Plus" thingy, but we stick to the Nero

Think thats the same thing with the computers we have at work.
Some Sonic Record Now crap.
For DVD's movies, DVD-shrink works great. Plus, it's free. :)

yep I got a copy of roxio with my DVD burner you know what I did to it. I broke it into a million pieces and kept useing nero. Nero is the easyest burning program and its good for CDs and DVDs.

Nero + Dvd Shrink is your friend...
Tronsky

Yes...DVD shrink 3.2 is the absolute best program...and it's free to boot. You can re-aurthor DVD's and not have to worry about encryption. You can also pull all the extra "stuff" out so your backup will play only the movie without menus etc...
I like Nero over Roxio...but that is my opinion.
