Just got conned into seeing a terrible movie. "sideways"
What a boring POS movie it was. Seemed like it ran about 10 hours and never got any better.
Boring, unlikable characters in a boring unlikeable movie.
A chick flick with two guys as the main characters.
well... just to give you an example... the main guy drove a saab.

Dead Presidents is worse.

I can't even imagine.

yuck what a suckfest that movie was !
Pearl Harbor (worst movie ever so far) looks like a masterpiece compared to that waste of footage...
-
Yep... Pear harbor at least had the sense on the DVD to put the chapters in such a way that you could skip to the good parts..
They should have done that with sidways... oh, wait.... there were no friggin good parts! well... none that lasted more than 5 seconds anyway.
-
Go see Downfall Lasz..it's long and just blows by.(sub-titled)
-
No problem with long movies if they are interesting. This one had no redeeming value.
lazs
-
Downfall is a Classic:confused:
-
Down fall was great,
Any one know how real the end was, with the secratary and peter leaving berlin together?
-
Top horrible film :
We were soldier
Windtalker
Top of the top of the worst war film ever made : La Battaglia d'Inghilterra
-
I enjoyed sideways enought. I had an idea what it was about and new what to expect though. I think they want overboard suckifying the main character though. I mean we get the idea, the guy is a loser..dont have to give it in technocolour.
-
"My Dinner with Andrée" still takes the biscuit, AFAIC. A movie about two guys having dinner. It would have Lazs screaming for AH1 and the pizza map.
"Airport '80 - the Concorde" was another walk-out.
-
LOL Lazs, so you saw the movie cause your girlfriend TOLD you to, eh? ;)
FYI my wife went to see Barbershop yesterday. I didn't want to go so I got to stay home and look at pictures of guns.
Nannar nannar. :D
-
Ishtar is still the worst movie I've ever seen though
It was actually painful to watch ....
oh ya... lets' not forget the all time "Wish they would have warned me before hand" movie.... The Crying game.

I suspect she threatened no sex.

Anyone seen "The Big Night"?

No way, that movie had some funny stuff in it! But then, I like some off the wall stuff.
I liked when they are writing that song "dangerous business" :lol

We Were Soldiers was an excellent movie.

It all started going downhill after they stopped making classics like, "Basketcase".
-
I had no idea what the movie was about.. saw an add for it and it said that it was hystericaly funny. depressing losers who steal from their mom and lie to every single person they run into is not funny in my book.
my girlfriend likes action movies and like me is fond of zombie movies.
it was not the worst movie I have ever seen tho or even the longest..
"prince of tides" was the worst... musta been 12 hours or so.. fell assleep in the middle of it and when I woke up it was still droning on.

"My Dinner with Andrée" was the worst time I ever spent at a theatre. The highlight of that movie occurred when the guy in the row in front of me dropped his tray of drinks and chili dogs on his girlfriend.
I got conned into seeing that movie by some ditzy girl who was soooo into artsy-fartsy garbage. I remember walking out of that dismal place listening to her ooh and ahh about how deep it was.
I got in the car and left her at the curb.

I have only walked out of one movie in my life. The Insider. It sucked. Bad. I was on a date that night too. Lucky for me my date said she didnt like the movie too. Which was great, then we could move forward with what we "really" wanted to do.

they made a movie about people eating dinner? sounds as interesting as an 88 art exhibit.

"Red Violin" is a sleeper. Took off from Hawaii airport to Chicago. The movie started soon after takeoff. Fell aspleep early on, woke up two hours later, was same place, people and subject being talked about.

I think the worst movie I recently saw was "CHICAGO"
My god that was torture.

I have to say one of the worst was the hulk.
it should have been called flying hulk sucking hack.
The directer ang lee sucks.
The only saving grace is the food I ate before the movie must have had MSG in it cause I got to spend like 20 minutes in the can, with the you know whats.
And yes that was better then the movie!

Same here. I thought it was going to be crap since the girlfriend picked it. But it turned out to be pretty cool. Though I would never admit that to her. Infact I pouted about it all the way home. She felt so bad I got to pick the next three movies. WINNER!

I rate it at 0.1 Platoon or 0.1 Full metal jacket.

I liked the red violin, if thats the movie about a violin being owned by different people in different time periods. But I like movies that let me glimpse into other time periods.
-
straffo
Why do you rate it so low?
-
Well you know my lack of American patriotism is evident :)
No, seriously I thought Mel Gibson was not acting very good , the screen play was too black and white àla John Wayne's film.
When I can be indulgent for John Wayne I can't be for recent films.
This film is full of clichés and macho attitude and hardly accurate IMO
Also before seing the film I've read the book and I find the film a bit weak.
Lastly I hate randall wallace :p (since I've lost 5€ to see his "The Man in the Iron Mask")

They don't make quality films like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" anymore.

I watched Sideways this weekend... disappointed with it. Way too much hype.

What the heck was wrong with "We Were Soldiers"?
Not the greatest movie ever, but it was a pretty good story, good action sequences, wtf?
-
Why the heck is everybody on here dissing "Pearl Harbor"? Where else can we get little nuggets of intelligence that'll help us out in Aces High like:
"Remember guys, the P-40 can't out run the Zero - we're gonna have to out fly them!"
Not to mention the littel things like the P-40E's in the film should have been P-40B's....
Or that we really DID NOT have a modern looking, Nuclear carrier during WWII.......
Or that when Doolittle wanted to man his little raid on Tokyo, he immediately took all the FIGHTER pilots from the squadron that got shot up at Pearl Harbor to fly his BOMBERS.....
Ok, I guess answered my own question. TORA, TORA, TORA was a much better movie about Pearl Harbor!
-
I've got a friend whose been doing the "We should watch that Sideways DVD bit"...and I told her the previews looked terrible, I dont care how many nods it got someplace.
So far, the Netflix DVDs I've been enjoying are the ones the reviewers said were a waste of celluloid. Heck, I thought 'Fat Albert' was hilarious, as was 'Anchorman'. 'I, Robot' was very good.
The next three due to arrive tomorrow are 'The Terminal', 'Troy' and 'The Five People You Meet in Heaven' I like Tom Hanks, thus the first...a friend said Troy was quite good (I've heard otherwise, let's see)...and the last had mixed reviews, so why not.
-
My wife rented a movie this weekend based on a friends recommendation. "The Dust Factory".
I think I'll sue someone for the 93 minutes I wasted on that one.
It's about a boy in a coma or something and the fantasy land where coma sufferers and alzheimers patients go .... I ended up wishing they'd hurry up and Shaivo the twerp.

I think your friend was right. I enjoyed Troy, and would watch it again.
LOL Skuzzy about my dinner with André :lol Two others in the same genre were Burnt by the Sun, and Buena Vista Social Club.
Burnt by the Sun is something to do with a Russian family in the run up to some military conflict - too bored to recall which one. In one sense, I didn't mind the fact that one scene was of the family having lunch - and it went on for 20 minutes. I sort of enjoyed the insight into Russian life. Otherwise, it was as boring as a movie about a family watching a football match. I saw it in New York, and at the end of the movie two women in the audience actually applauded - to let the rest of the audience know that *they* "got it" even if the rest of us hadn't. I'd have left those two standing at the curb. :lol
Buena Vista Social Club was about a Cuban band (Ray Cooda?) but the scenes were so boring - showing a guy taking a minute to get into a car and then showing the car driving away until it was a little dot in the distance...

To each his/her own I guess, me and our party walked out after about 15 minutes with an acute pain in our intelligence :D
I didn't try to kill the inviso guy, I didn't see him there. The bullets were aimed at those three idiots in the sombreros!

Never read it, but let me guess.. it didn't follow the story exactly? Or maybe the book was really good. Either way that is irrelevent to the quality of the movie.
If I can put up with Elves in Helms Deep you can overlook Mel storming the NVA camp.

red bottom... read the thread... I was "conned" by an add for the movie. My girfriend had no more idea about it than I did. She didn't like it much either.

The movie was overhyped and dishonestly marketed. I heard one reviewer say it was the best guy-movie of all times, even better than swingers. Considering the general volume of meaningless movies out there I'll say the Sideways was not THAT bad, but it certainly wasn't a guy movie or even anything special in any way. It was in theaters when the "Sky Captain" crap was out, that can make anything look good by comparison!
Wait until it hits the $0.99 shelves and rent it.

When I started reading the book I've read it from beginning to the end in one time and one night...
In the theater 30 min after the beginning I was looking at my clock ...
My mistake was to read the book 1st.

That is true in almost every case. The only two movies that were better than the book that immediately come to mind were Jaws and Star Wars episode4.

Sorry I don't like people trying to pass off fiction as truth. But then I'm not a Michael Moore fan either...

The worst part is that Moore, Galloway, Crandall, etc. endorsed the movie so strongly. They are either sellouts or liars.
-
Finally I decided to rent "we were soldier" ...
and in the 1st 2 minute it was done...
In the legion the officiers wear a black "képi" not a white one ...
The beret is not oriented left but right
My mistake this time was to see the film with a real soldier :D
-
At first I didnt like it. I thought they'd end up tasting wine with Martha Stewart or something...but then it got better.
-
I liked Sideways... In fact I thought it was hilarious.
I guess it's a "had to be there" kind of thing. And I can honestly see why some would come away thinking it sucked.
I just saw a movie last night that's kinda flown under the radar... The Assassination of Richard Nixon. It was almost painful to watch. Not because the movie was bad - it wasn't. But because the main character's (are you sitting down? - Sean Penn's) melt down was a slow-burn downward spiral the likes of which ya don't really see in movies.
I'm still trying to figure out if the movie was any good... but no matter what the verdict... that guy slays dragons.
-
Had to be there? There wasn't even one character in the entire movie that I woulda spent an hour with. well... maybe the women if we didn't have to go to their house and if they didn't speak.
and... let's see... you say you seen a movie where sean penn had an emotional meltdown? well... I bet no one seen that one coming! what a shocker that must have been to you... next you will tell me that he cried in the movie.
lazs
-
Heh, yeah.
I've spent countless hours with people I didn't want to spend time with. Those two reminded me of about 10 of them. It was pretty fricken funny to me.
-
well... I have spent time with people I didn't like either but.... I had control of the situation... just sitting there helplessly and having to watch it was painful to me... If I could have reached out and smacked em on the back of the head or insulted em enough to get em angry or teary eyed it would have been ok...
but to have to sit and watch it! and pay! That is like actually going to a movie that you know sean penn is in.
I have done bad things in my life and will probly be begging for shade in hell but.... I didn't deserve to have to see that movie.
lazs
-
Different strokes for different folks aint that right? :)
I've probably seen more movies that I've disliked than I've seen movies that I liked. The difference is, at least for me, I tend to forget the bad movies even happened. But if I see something I like, then I might say something about it.
