How do you run a ping plotter for AH2?
-
http://www.pingplotter.com get free version. Check what addreses to ping in the stickys at top of this section.
First, the server IP addresses, to be used for traces/ping plots.
Main Arena Server Address: 216.91.187.39
All other arenas: 216.91.187.38
Run pingplotter, use save to text or as graph, open a .txt or a .bmp file and paste it in. There you go.

Yup, Savvis sucks! 3mb DSL and my ping times are still in the 90's most of the time.
Savvis has most of the backbone in the "heartland" so it's hard to avoid them. Most people don't even notice the problems with Savvis so they are not highly motivated to fix it.
Sort of like my cable company, they advertise 4mb speeds but I was lucky to get 1mb. Are they motivated to pull new line down my 5.6 mile street to fix the problem? (per their techs that is what would need to be done) Nope, cause I was the only one complaining. Do they care that I am no longer a customer? Not in the slightest.

HTC, please, get rid off Savvis....
Please, get a proper carrier of connections...
-
There no way around savvis with them being so prominent. HTC can't avoid them.
-
No kidding... yesterday i had 13 hops, nice 60ms... (no denver)
now tonight all a sudden bumped to 19 hops with about 5 in chicago with 250ms+ ping time entirely within savvis...
it's time...

Gents......here's the rub so to speak.
First......most people who purchase Cable only know that it's faster then dialup. When they first get cable they notice a marked difference when dloading files. Wow! This is fast! Education the key here. Since they know very little about the difference between dialup, DSL, and Cable just because it's faster they assume they are getting what they are paying for. So....probably over 90% think they are getting what they are paying for since they can surf and dload files faster.
Second......Ignorance. Cable Co.s hope and pray that their customers know very little about their technology. What transfer rate the customer should be getting...packett loss.....Ping times at the Gateway etc. I have become a thorn in the side of the local Time Warner Cable Co. Since I'm paying for Premium RoadRunner I expect to get what I'm paying for. They now know that. I've had them here several times to adjust and balance the upload and dload side of my signal so that I am getting the Mbps that I am paying for.
Third....Tech help.....usually Levels 1, 2 and 3.
Level 1 Techie= Person who just quit his McDonalds job. Has scripted stupid answers to the problem designed to dazzle you with BS about YOUR problem.
Level 2 Techie= Person who quit McDonalds 2 years ago. Marginally better tech wise...doesn't need scripted responses anymore, can adlib responses to dazzle you with BS about YOUR probelm.
Level 3 Techie= Finally a person that usually knows something. Takes the time with you by checking Tracerts...usually pings your Modem....checks strength of signal upload and dload and verifies that THEY have a problem. You don't have a Virus that the Level 1 Techie said you had. Told the last level 3 that I talked to that I might as well get DSL since my Cable wasn't giving me what I was paying for. Next day Engineers were on the problem with my connection.....worked wonders.
About Savvis: Folks......only Savvis can do something about Savvis. In an earlier post I stated that the only way we will get a response from Savvis is by being a thorn in the side of our local Cable Companies. Companies such as time warner etc. have a great deal of influence. If enough of their customers complain about their cable connection ping times, threaten to downgrade their service ar even cancel this equals big bucks to the Cable Companies. Now....if the Cable Companies start losing subscribers or suffer downgrades such as going from Premium to Regular Road Runner etc. they just might say something to Savvis....exert some pressure to clean up their act.
Education and the urge to get what you pay for are the key. Get in touch with your local Cable Company....even if you live in Europe etc. Explain to them the problem you are having. Tell them Savvis is the problem. They will ping your route to HTC and get the same response. Tell them that Aces High is why you are paying for their Cable Service and since you are not getting the performance you are paying for you are considering downgrading your Subscription or thinking of going to a less costly way of getting to HTC since you are not reaping the benefits of having Cable. Cable Companies that have subscribers who go through the Savvis backbone just might exert some pressure. John Q. Public singularly can't do it. But large Companies can.
