Title: New Trees = Video lag?
Post by: Mobius0077 on April 12, 2005, 01:25:24 PM
Just tried out the new patch about 30 seconds ago. I was out and about in the TA just seeing the new stuff. Well I fly out to the mountain NE of the Rook base and notice all the trees. I say to myself "Wow thats alot of trees, finally some more scenery". Well when I head over to the hill my comp is in a massive slow down and its hard to play in that sort slow down. Well whats up with this? Anyone else getting this? And its not that I have an old comp thats barly running. I have a P4 3.0 Ghz, 1 GB Ram, a 128 ATI X800 SE. And I know people who play this game and have faaar slower computers than mine. I just think maybe the trees need to be dubed down. Anyone else have a say?

been saying that all along.  PLEASE don't choke AH w/ a ton of eye candy, and leave the stable gameplay on a back burner.  When gameplay goes, so do I....

im ok with the trees, they are not perfect but they are a heck of alot better than the last ones, as far as frame rates go, they take a tiny bit more but not enough to complain about, i have the medium view distance and near view distance mapped to my tqs throttle for when fps do act up.

modern art or video lag?

btw one of the 190 guage lenses is not placed correctly, when sun reflects on it you can tell its moved down and off the surface by about an inch.

elif...I had multi-coloured ones like that a while back...it was an overheat issue on my video card due to the fan not working right.

I got a PCI slot fan and mounted it under the heat sink to my vid card. Keeps it cooler that way. They cost about $19.95.

oy, this thing sounds like a wind tunnel :)

I'm getting it too. Checked the temp on my 6600 GT, and it was 55 degrees, which is fine. I suspect it's the patch, not an overheating issue.

dude no way!

im 2.1ghz, 1gbRAM 128mb ATI9800 (?) and i run highest res possible with detail sliders at half way.

min frame rate even skimming the tree tops is 40-50. usualy fps at 1,000ft is 60-70+

something is not right unless the genius programers at MESH where i got this rig did something magical with my system.

edit: in my experience updating vid drivers causes nothing but trouble.

this is probably one of my greatest pictures, it catches the spirit of flight as a bird, its glinting eye radiating its briliance. this was truly a one in a million shot!

i call it "eye of god", makes ya think. ...

all of these phenominons seem to take place around bases, naturaly this is where they would attack first.

32 fps max? I am running an Athlon 2000XP (1.66ghz), 512m ddr ram, FX5700LE 128m video card. I get in the 70's at altitude, high 40's to high 50's near thre grnd, and near a base low 40's/high 30's. I have others skins off, weapon and gv effects off, top slider 1/3 from the right, both of the other sliders all the way to the right.

The only time I get really crappy fps now (below 30) is over a burning field with lots of cons. Well, the burning bombers can drop me into the teens.

I suggest an email to support@hitechcreations.com. Something isnt right with your setup.

The biggest thing I did to improve how the game runs on my comp was to remove my SB Audigy sound card. I replaced it with an offbrand soundcard for $15. I gained about 10 fps on the high end and the low end performance jump was huge.

There is something about SB sound cards and VIA chipsets that reduces perfomance. Skuzzy can tell you what it is, he was the one that informed me about it.

ill have to try that, our system is about the same, i have an sb audiology as well, hopefully \just selecting my nvidia built in sound card will work so i can keep the game port adaptor that is on my sb card.

i turned off my sb audiology, still need to do some testing but it seems im getting a better frame rate!

My FR's dropped big time as well...Was running 1600 x 1200...dropped it down 1 notch on the res, scaled back the detail sliders to halfway and all is fine again..

ps..I would luv to see some pix comparing the detail slider settings if anyone has them.

fps down to 15 or so in avg overflight, in medium range view.
A fraction of 1fps when looking at them zoomed while near or skimming ground level.

P4 2G
512MB of 2700
X800P
SB Audigy2
WinXP, all latest drivers

Actually the forrest shape outlines could be a bit less dense ... if getting back to the original tree topic :) Now they look like greenish cakes when looking a bit further away.
Even the closest LODs could have every 2nd tree removed bot for the sake of appearance and playability. Often less is more ;)

As a side note about trees...I noticed this last night and again in the Toad video. Trees are 700+ feet tall.....someone get a giant weedwhacker.

I am running an AMD64 3200+ with a Radeon 9800 pro, and I had to pull the two top sliders ALL the way to the right to maintain a playable framerate (high 20s). I am all for improved graphics and more realistic terrain and foliage, but I do hope there is some code optimization coming up...

I was thinking the same thing.  Langoliers.  Scary.

Or maybe it's the hypercube degrading before it implodes.

I just tried shift+F1 and shift+F2 soon after take off from A19 on the Baltic map. The difference in frame rate was HUGE!!!

Shift+F1:   24 fps
Shift+F2: 140 fps  :)

Looks like the new forrests eat some serious frames...

i mapped short/medium range buttons to my joystick, when im low the ground details eat up frame rate, always have probably always will, i just put it on the short draw distance when it starts acting up, i think there should be an option for this to happen automaticly once your frame rate goes below a certain level, or just coencide the alt to draw distance since we cant see the horizon when were 5o feet off the ground anyway.
