With the process of all the trees constantly changing when they come into view, my FR will jump from the 30s to single digits. Unlike the old trees which looked the same once they were in visual range, these new ones go from that tree block to higher detail. Yes I have messed around with detail levels and all that good stuff and gameplay is still hindered.
I like the way these trees look and I can appreciate the desire to make the game pretty. But the current method decided upon for bushes and trees to appear on screen causes nothing but trouble for some of us. It just needs to be smooth and constant a certain distance off my nose. Unlike constantly at all distances all around me all the time.

I'm having the same situation occuring with
my system also.
The trees are absolute frame rate killers!
I cranked the visual range slider down to
minimum and that kept FR's from dropping
below 12 or 13 except when I was on the
deck, in which case they slid down to 7 or 8 FPS.
This really sucks for a NOE buff driver such as myself :(

i turned vertical sync off for my vid card got alot more frames in the game now

The last thing I want to do is tell people getting crappy frames that they are doing something wrong. I'm by no means a computer expert; I'm just posting this so maybe HTC or a computer guru can tell why my frames are acceptable while others seem to have problems. My computer is (imho) pretty average and I'd almost consider my video card outdated now, but so far I'm not dropping to unacceptable frames. Maybe I am not finding the right trees? I'd be happy to find another place that is "known" to be a killer if that helps anyone.
The computer is a "straight-from-the-box" COMPAQ from Sams' Club, the only addition I put in was the vid card.
Anyway here are screenshots of my setup and in-game frames.
What's not shown in the shots is additional video software setups:
image settings: quality
antialiasing: application
anisotropic filter: application
I have "preload skins" yes. My option for "preload into video memory" is grey, probably because it's only a 64meg card?
I run "full vis mode" (shift-F1). If I switch to "medium" (shift-F2) I get 50+ in the air and at least 10 more near the ground; at "short" (shift-F3) I get a little higher all around. The airshot frames are lower because I looked back towards the sun, when looking forward it was around 49.

SEA does not have Coral loaded yet so I can't test the jungle near PM.

if you have vertical sync in ur cards graphics options try disabling that to see if yuor frames boost, i got FX5700 and i got the same frames as you are getting now and they increased with verticle sync turned off
-
v-sync doesn't matter if you're getting under 70 fps. It only limits you when you're up over your monitor's refresh rate at whatever resolution you're running under.

To add to what others have already said about vsync, read this thread on the matter.

Your max texture size is only 256. I run a system comparable to that with frame rates between 6 and 30 due to running at 512 texture size. I used to run 1024, but am too lazy to get the texture pack.
