Title: new patch crashing out on install
Post by: rabbidrabbit on April 14, 2005, 04:07:00 PM
Tried twice to let it auto update but it crashed saying" stdshape.res is not valid".  It worked last night before the patch and I have not been hacking it.  Any idea?

Sounds like the path to Aces High has been messed up in the registry.  Have you ever done a 'Windows Restore'?  That could cause this.

Did you let the game auto-update, or download the patch from the WEB page?

If you are patched from 2.02 Patch 4 to 2.03 Patch 0, then you do not want to use the patch on the WEB site.  You either let the game auto-install the patch or grab the small 2.03 Patch 0 to 2.03 Patch 1 from the news forum where Pyro made the announcement.

Ahh.. good pointer.. I did move the directory...  I'll go figure it out.

OK redid it and its pointed to the correct path.  I'm guessing the date on the file is off?  Or there is no registry entry since I just grabbed the folder and dropped in position.  Am I stuck reinstalling?

Skuzzy, How about a pointer to which registry keys I need to create to get this to work?  I did a clean OS install and then copied the HTC folder over to the new location.  I can safely say that there are no current HTC entries in in the new registry.  If you let me know what I need I can just put them in myself.

thanks!

How abot just installing the game, then copying over your folders from the other copy?

There is more to it than a registry setting.  There is also the de-installer.
