Title: Heat problems

I have been having problem with playing this game and it seems to be heat related.  I have 2 fans that blow into my case and 2 that blow out.  When the game is playing and it freezes, the ram modules on my mx4000 (peice of crap) feel pretty hot.  So i blew out all the dust, made it so that the two closest fans to the gpu were blowing on it, and even cut up a heatsink and applied it to the ram modules on my gpu with some thermal tape.  I thought that it would do the trick but my computer keeps freezing during the game after playing for a little while.  I plan on buying a 6600gt sometime in the near futer, but i was wondering if there is a way to keep my vid card cool for the moment.:confused:
any help would be much apreciated.

Hi Redviper, I have a crappy MX4000 and had the same problem using Nvida newest driver 71.84

As per Skuzzy,  "With the MX4xxxx card you need to be using the NVidia 61.77 drivers. Use DXDIAG to determine which driver you have loaded. The last 4 numbers shown in the driver version in DXDIAG is NVidia's version number."

I suugest that you get a free driver cleaner at "major geek.com" , remove all the drivers for video card and reinstall driver version 61.76 or 61.77.

They can be found at the Nvida website  driver archive.

Hopes this will solve your problem.

thermal tape !!!  oh noooooooooo

hate to burst your bubble but the tape holds heat and doesnt transfer very well at all .

what ive always done is use some artic silver (just a drop) and a small drop of epoxy at the corners of the chip that needed the heatsink added for extra cooling .

The MX 4000 is really a cheapo budget card that was never designed for the rigors of hardcore gaming.  My old 64MB MX440 would run circles around a 128MB MX4000.  They tried to take a good series of video cards (the Geforce MX series) and stretch it past its prime without giving it any of the tools it needs to survive.  

And yes, you will not see any benefit from using any driver past 61.77 with this card.  Anything after this supports the new 6xxx Geforce cards, and dont do anything but cause trouble for the older cards.

Thanks for the tips guys.  Ya i know that my card is a piece of s$$t.  I might buy a 6600gt by tomorrow.  But using the (61.what ever) has helped it work.

  Right now i'm deciding on wether to hit the mx with a hammer..... or take my dads circular saw to it.
