When I go about the country meeting clients I often talk light chit-chat with them in order to divert from business.
Often I mention my past with AH and introduce them to the game. Most get impressed and I know for sure that at least 6 persons at least tried the game after our meetings.
Last week after the meeting people came to ask the URL to htc from me. That started the idea to this post..
Do you buff HTC in your private life and if you do, how many people do you think you got to join the game?
-
I'll talk about the game and people will be interested. But people don't tend to have joysticks so they don't even bother with it.
-
Have 2 or 3 buds that play it...
though after about 8 yrs of playin, Im pretty much banned from talking about it by Friends, Family, Girlfriend and Employer :D
-
I tried to get everyone I know in at first..... Most just dont "Get it".
So after a while I gave up. Now I will only spew HTC propaganda if directly questioned about it.
-
People at my work sometimes ask me if ishot anything.
I don't know anybody here playing flight sims.
Its a very rare species.
-
me personally? ummm... 0
-
I even have a few AH business cards left over from con almost 3 years ago. I still hand one out now & then when I bump into someone who's interested.
As far as people who I've brought to the game who are as addicted as I am, well 1 for sure.
Most people just do not understand.

True, but that doesn't stop us from trying, does it? :)

I have only told people I thought might be interested, pretty much keeping quite about it in general. Kinda like not wanting everyone to know what I really do with my gerble collection.
-
Since I work at an airport, it's fairly easy to bring up AH in
conversation. If I get a bite, I generally point them at the
website. Lately though, I've gotten guys that were interested
but were stuck in a dialup only area. Since I have cable it is
very easy for me to download the base download and skins
executables and burn them on a CD for them.

One thing I like to point out about Aces High is the social end
of the game. Where else are you going to meet that many folks
with similar interests and pay less than 50 cents a day to do it.
Alot of the guys I speak to are very interested in the vox and
international aspects.
-
Zero.
I have friends who tried the sim but none who stayed.
A strange mix is needed to become hooked on this sim.
You need to love airplanes, computers and history.
Talk to most people about any of those subjects and their eyes glass over.
-
Wife loves the game cause it keeps me out of trouble.
6 year old loves playing it
I've only been able to recruit one person to come play,
that was AB2 in aw, he wants to play AH but is banned by severe
wife ack.
And co-workers, think I'm nuts. If I come in looking like hell in the morning, they all say I must of been up late saving the world.
My General Motors rep is a HUGE ww2 plane buff, travels to shows, got all kind of magazine subsciptions. Ah would be nirvana for him. And I can't get him to even look at website.
The biggest problem to get new people to try/join is that most people don't have sticks. So they might try, but using a mouse or a touchpad your very first time trying to take off is a daunting and dishearting task to say the least. And the amount of commands, information, settings knowledge, controls, programming the controls also is overwhelming in the first two weeks.
I also believe you have to be slightly touched to play this regularly. The MA is like one big mental institution and ya never gonna know whats going to happen next.
cya on the inside.

ive gotten 2 to join who still play actively after a few years. Most just dont see what i like about it so much. Once I get them to try it they are hooked...but lack of a good pc / cable connection turns them away. I played an ah movie at school and when it was over the class looked very unimpressed. Kids see the graphics and laugh...they dont see the overall idea of the game.
-
I got Mega to join but he was no good and quit LOLOL:p
-
moat of my mates think its a boring waste of time.
i do try to get flight enthusiasts interested but i wont convince some who will just be another ho dweeb potato.

This is the #1 reason so many, including myself & squad play this game. We play because of the people were involved with, the friends we make. It is a big social. Imagine just for a second the only people you knew or knew of was your squad, I garauntee not many would play.

I talked 3 people into subscribing over the last couple of years...
Player 1 is banned for life by Dale
Player 2 was too stupid to fly
Player 3 said it was like crack cocaine addiction he had to quit....
At first I would try to explain my hobby but I live in florida so its kind of 3rd world down here... few have computers.... and most would rather buy a case of beer then a joystick...
That is all...

I think I know, numbers and letters Tojo?
I got a pal who's gunna play....as soon as he gets out.

Hehehe...I'll be setting an old ladies toilet back down to the wax, and be talking to her saying "Ya..and then he passed right in front of me and BLAM! I blew him away!" Sometimes I look out of the corner of my eye, and they are looking at me funny...like.."Should I call the cops now..or wait till the toilet is set?"

Thought so. I don't know the story, but Ghost had told me he was banned. I soon left that squad of delinquants and now live a life of saving three legged cats from the SPCA and drinking white wine spritzers.

I got 2 to join but the first was too stupid I guess. Like everyone else said he didn't "get it". History and planes are some of the most important parts. And who needs GROUND graphics when you are FLYING? The other one that's all he complained about "the graphics suck" bla blah blah. They were both console gamers.
Heck I started with a mouse for my first 2 weeks and I stayed in.
