"We were told that this will be the last time Apeldoorn holds a parade on this scale. But that's what they said last time, on the 50th anniversary in 1995.

Organizers were forced to change their minds after townspeople demanded another parade."

You guys rock.  :)

"The Canadian Tulip Festival has grown into the largest tulip festival in the world from a gift of thanks given five decades ago. In the fall of 1945, Princess Juliana of the Netherlands presented Ottawa with 100,000 tulip bulbs. The gift was given in appreciation of the safe haven which Holland's exiled royal family received during the Second World War and in recognition of the role which Canadian troops played in liberating the Netherlands."

It's really nothing special. After what they did for us, the least we can do is to invest a day a year into thanking them...

If you make some cute giggeling sounds from your stroller maybe one of them will look down at you and show you some cleavage.

The (mostly Canadian) parade in Apeldoorn was yesterday, pouring with rain but still great turnout. It was absolutely fantastic, the less mobile vets were driven through the crowds on WWII military vehicles and some of them insisted on walking the whole parade.
While moving by the veterans (1700+) were cheered on by the crowd and given flowers, flags and all kinds of souvenirs.

The amazing thing was that all the veterans only talked about how impressed they were with the welcome and never about themselves.
One said while refusing an umbrella: "if all these people can stand there all day applauding us, I sure can stand a little rain.

Wonderful that we could give this minor thing in return for everything that they've done for us.

S!

I planned to shoot my memory card full but as i was there with my 2 kids and my girlfriend i didn't get much chance.

We had to leave as my kiddies got tired and they can get annoying after that.
