No, it should have automatically recognised the upgrade.  Are the chips the same brand?  Also, take out the new stick and blow the dust out of the chip socket and reseat the chip .  Make sure you seat in in all the way.   Im guessing the dust is making for a poor connection.  While you got it open, also blow the dust out of everything while your at it.  Too many people neglect cleaning..it makes a system happy (and cooler)
If you use those arosal cans that are used for cleaning computers..do NOT spray anything until the system is completly cooled down, and DONT refire the comp back up until it becomes room temperature again (the arosal is extremlely cold)

the ram is either not compatable or either one is seated correctly .

go back to your 1st stick and get it running ... then try adding the second stick . if it doesnt work take it back and tell them that its not compatable they should trade it for a diff brand type.

Yup, beeps upon startup is the comp telling you that something in your system isnt being addressed correctly.  Sounds like it now knows the other stick is in there, but it doesnt know how to handle it.  Return the stick and try to get the same as your first stick.

Its possible the 2700 would work in your system..Just not paired with a 2100.  Always buy the same brand and speed..saves a lot of guessing
