Title: future of air transportation?
Post by: spitfiremkv on April 18, 2005, 09:27:14 PM
the vehicle has impressive characteristic, at least on paper.
inventor won some MIT prize.
also, it's supposed to come in production this year or the next, pretty affordable and extremely easy to fly.
again, these are his claims.

Looks like fun, especially for buzzing around a big ranch or something.

Moller is a blowhard.  He's been promising flying cards 'in just a few years' since before I was born.

His current rotary beast has been flying around on tethers for over a decade now, with no real sign of 'taking off' anytime soon.

I'd love to see his car succeed, but...  there's a point where you stop listening.  He's like a reverse chicken little, except he never falls into the sky.

Flying cards!  Is that like flying carpets, only smaller?  WOOHOO!  I can see the uses for this.  Fats food delivered right on yer head!

(proving once again, typos can be fun) :D

So how do you pull over and beat the crap out of somebody when road raging?

I'd buy stock ahead of time in Raytheon, maker of the popular AIM-9 family of cheap, easy to install air to air missiles.  Some people may find that purchasing an SA-7 or Stinger MANPAD is cheaper, but most discerning pilots will enjoy the increased aircraft control during firing as well as extended system power-up during the lock acquisition phase.

Pull over for road rage?  Just drop 2 feet and veer into them.  Those blade tips will remove the problem, and ground cleanup will be a snap as the offending person will be scattered over a few acres.  :D

Wish that I had $50 Grand to throw away on a toy, I'd buy one. I bet maintenence costs are a biatch, tho.

I wish I had the 50 large as well rpm.  Maintenance does not look too bad.  I do not know what the normal service life for the rotor's are though.  I would imagine those would be the most costly part of maintaining it.

Especially if you're trying to chop people's heads off with it.

You barbarians, someone invents something to help the populace and the first thing you do is think up ways to kill people with it. Your mothers would be ashamed of you all.

I wonder if I can mount a .50 on mine.

With a useful load of 350lbs I could take out a GV.

Unless that includes the pilot then I will just be throwing darts I guess.

t will definitely be  a hit if the qualify it under LSA...
says it meets  Ultralight FAR 103 so I don't think there'll be a problem.

Ultralight means you don't even need Sport Pilot license.  If you can operate the throttle, you can fly it.  :D

i thought all ultralights will be integrated in the LSA legislation?!?!

I'm pretty sure it'll stay the way it has been, where ultralights are as regulated as, say, hickies.

You may be thinking of 'fat ultralights', which are actually E-LSA and fall under sport pilot rules.

you will care when these nuts are flying around at your local uncontrolled field without radios, in the traffic patten at below your stall speed & landing on taxiways.

hmm good point. though I've never seen helidopters flying from uncontrolled fields.

How does LSA = landing on taxiways and being yahoos?  If anything, LSA pilots will be MORE accountable then ultralight pilots because they'll be required to follow the FARs at penalty of having their certs revoked.

Also, the more people who fly, the better.  Economy of scale.

I was complaining more about ultralights & copters...it's getting into the begiing of nice weather in OR & the best area airfield for teaching, learning & practice (KSPB - big runway, 2 instrument approaches, AWOS & no flight schools) is beinging to become a dangerous zoo again.  I had a near incident there today with one of these twits...but i guess it makes for great SA experience, im much more alert there than when i got to conrolled or little used fields

I just went flying today at 77S (Creswell), and it's sure different from flying out of the controlled airspace I was in.  I guess we gotta keep our eyes open out there.
