The US Government recommended food guide pyramid has been abandonned in favor of a set of food guides that fit your style of living. I wonder how much this program cost.
WASHINGTON, April 19, 2005 — Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns today unveiled MyPyramid, a new symbol and interactive food guidance system. “Steps to a Healthier You,” MyPyramid’s central message, supports President Bush’s HealthierUS initiative which is designed to help Americans live longer, better and healthier lives. MyPyramid, which replaces the Food Guide Pyramid introduced in 1992, is part of an overall food guidance system that emphasizes the need for a more individualized approach to improving diet and lifestyle.

http://www.mypyramid.gov is either a reeeeeealy slow server, or the site is being bombarded right now lol

I'm not surprised. The nutritionists have been railing against the old food pyramid for years.
As to costs... I wonder how much a nation of obese people costs me as a taxpayer.

here's another article on it (from reuters):

snippet:
Some health experts immediately criticized the new symbol, called MyPyramid, for placing responsibility for a slimmer America on consumers and not food companies. They also said it was more confusing and would not help poor Americans who do not have a computer.
"This is a complete pandering to the food industry and does not help consumers who are enormously confused about what to eat," said Marion Nestle, professor of nutrition and food studies at New York University.
i can't believe what i am reading.
im mean this is INSAINE. now if is a corporations responsibility or fault i am overweight? that is so BS there isn't words.
add to that, raise your hand if you are "enormously confused about what to eat". oh my God, are human beings really that stupid to think that, and are there really human beings that are confused? if you don't know what to eat, and choose to eat coco puffs all day every day, you will probably die, and it is your own fault.
ok im not going to bother to rant anymore, you can tell what my thoughts on this article are LOL

Any person that believes its up to the corporations to help us watch what we eat is out of their mind.
Use your own brain instead of being told what to do.

I eat what I like, when I like and not to excess. Still weigh what I weighed when I granulated from high school.

Probably, but at least I am a healthy freak. :D
-
Either that, or you were overweight in high school. ;)
I must admit... I'm sixty pounds heavier now than high school... of course, I'm also five inches taller. I think I could stand to drop down thirty pounds.
-
6'3" when I granulated, weighed 198 pounds.
6'3" today and weigh 197 pounds.
-
I was 5'5" 120 pounds...
Just a little smaller :)
-
Lost 25lbs since Jan 15th... low carb, no booze, take vitamin's every day, lots of water/tea, little bit of workin out before I tore up my knee. Easy.
-
I have to have my beer and pizza, beef, chicken, pastas...(geez, I am getting hungry) Water? Can't touch the stuff. Makes me nausious.
-
Sandy you're 2 inches shorter than me and about 5 pounds heavier, and WANT to lose 30??
You crazy or something? you're gonna look like a rake ;)
-
Well... about six months ago, I dropped from 190 down to 160... and then I succumbed to the siren call of the cheeseburger and I'm right back at 180.

I delivered pizza for awhile to make some extra cash. Honest, if I knew I'd never see, smell, taste or even hear about pizza again, I'd be fine with it.
Beer? Well, I can live without it for a little while lol.
'bout 8yrs ago my metabolism came to a screeching halt... changing to a "desk" job didn't help.

Some of us were blessed genetically in other ways.

so you have a tail?
weird
-
It's good. The old chart with its advice of "3 servings of something or other" was meaningless to most Americans who have lost all sense of whast a serving size is.

On the side it says how much a serving size is. Only problem is today that people dont want to read that they should eat a small amount. So what they do is eat what they think a serving size is, which for them it is usually this:
two servings of meat - two HUGE double quarterpounders with cheese
one serving of starch - supersize french fries (thats starch aint it?)
