Title: New Mexico - Never been but looking forward to it
Post by: Curval on April 20, 2005, 01:29:14 PM
I have a conference to attend in Albuquerque May 19th.  Wife and I fly out the day before.

Looking forward to a nice break, although bummed I will not be able to play in the golf tournament that is on day 1.

Any AHers out that way?

Man, I feel for you.
Getting a trip to New Mexico's armpit.

If you have a couple free hours, do take a trip to Sandia Peak. If you have a free day run up to Santa Fe.

Whatever, don't judge New Mexico by Albuquerque ... that is like judging LA by a visit to Watts.

No need to "feel for me".  I'm having a four or five day "vacation" on the company's dime...with my wife....WITHOUT our children.

Sex, sex, sex...then maybe some sightseeing....then more sex.

;)

I recommend a visit to Gallup, NM.  I spent a month there one weekend.

My ex-wife's (may I out live her so I can defacate on her grave) great uncle built most the infastructure of Albuquerque.  Only been there a couple times, BUT one time, while driving to L.A. I was leaving the city heading west and the sun was going down.  Albuquerque is in a valley, and I pulled over on the side of the road and it was quite beautiful, all nestled in and the light hitting it just so.  Took a smoke break admiring it.

Place can't be any worse than where I live currently (Oklahoma City).

Curval has a point.

Sex with his wife was the best part of my trip to New Mexico.

I highly recommend you visit the cities of Tucumcari and Truth or Consequences while you are in NM. No, neither town has much to offer but they have cool names

IMHO Taos Pueblo & Santa Fe are both worth visiting & the museum at Los Alamos is of tremendous value if you are researching building an atomic weapon

well if you and the wife go out at night the downtown scene (when I was there) was pretty good.

Check out the "the brewery" that was more of an older (more white) crowd than other places.  I say this because even the cab driver warned us there are certain "types" that go to certain places downtown and that's just the way it is.

Other than that NM aint a bad state if you like poverty outside of a few thriving cities.

The most important question in the state is more likely. ;)

In fact I lived here 3 years before I learned that it was not the state motto. :D:D:D

Hey gunnss...I think we met at the Indy con and sat at the same table.  I'm not sure at this stage how much free time I will have...I certainly have "lots" according to the conference schedule, but the wife has some of her own "plans" for shopping and the like for which she is insisting I join her.  I will do "some" but I refuse to travel all that way to follow the slowest damn shopper around a bunch of Malls etc.

I have your e-mail and will let you know.

What is all this about green & red?

Albuquerque isn't too bad.  Now, Alamogordo is a real rathole.  All the fighters at Hollomon almost make up for it tho.

Ah, miss the place. Went to high school in Albuquerque.  Nothing for teenagers to do but drink, fight, and get busy.

Food's great, as is the scenery and culture.

Enjoy!

Oh, and bring the Pepto because the chili turns your bellybutton to fire if ya aint used to it.

If you go by Socorro, there's a restaurant called Martha's black dog, I really recommend it, if they still have the same chef as a year ago.

White sands park is nice if you're going by truth or consequences.
