Title: How about those MLB records set by Mariners?
Post by: Ripsnort on June 01, 2001, 09:53:00 AM
40-12

No team has ever had a 20 win month in April, or a 20 win month in May.

Gooooo Mariners!

No "Yankees" payroll, no Superstar, 3 players voted for all-star game, including the Rookie Japanese player, and Lou coaches the AL team.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I've been waiting for this for over 30 years.  Its some of the best baseball playing I've ever seen.

I hope A-Rod and Jr are happy with their new homes (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

44-12, won 16 series, lost 2 series, tied 1 series.  14 game win streak, all-time record for baseball is 19.  Look up all the teams that had a record like the M's do for starts, and you'll see some very famous "hall of fame" players.

At 45-12, the
Mariners have the third-best 57-game record in
baseball history. Only the 1912 New York Giants and the
1939 New York Yankees (both 46-11) were better after
57 games. "Wow," said Cameron. "I'll tell you what, it's
pretty fun. Every night, something different happens. It's
definitely a good feeling to help your team win a ballgame."

Ichiro is hardly a rookie in my opinion.  It'd be like sending Griffey or Helton to Japan and calling them rookies there.  Ichiro has what, 7 straight gold gloves in Japan and how many batting titles?   Sure, the pitching overall is much better in the Majors, but I'd say Japanese pitching on the whole is probably on par or better than AAA level.  What's the most impressive about the M's is that you're doing this with your starting staff!  They're good, but like you said, they're not stud staffs like the Yanks and Braves.

Besides, anytime Seattle gets rid of a great player they do awesome the next year.  Junior leaves and you go pretty far in the playoffs.  Pay-Rod leaves and you guys are tearing it up so far and the Rangers have one of the worst records in the majors (due to the fact they have the crappiest pitching staff in baseball!  USC has a better staff!)   :D

Well.. the naysayers were right.

The M's were only 30:15 after getting off to that beautiful 40:12 start.

Its kinda like a Ranger except it gets more hits, scores more runs and pitches much better... and all that for less money.

Do the bandwagonhoppers realize what a crap player he is?  Last time I checked the season was 162 games long.  He and the rest of their team will be coming back to earth soon.  Enjoy it while you can.         :)

Funked, FYI, we're almost 75% of the season and here are some Boone numbers for ya     ;)

American League:
1st in RBI'S
4th in hits
5th in total bases
5th in runs
8th in HR's
9th in Slugging percentage
13th "on-base plus slugging %"
29th for doubles
31st for 'on base' percentage.

Not bad for a guy whos a 'crap player'.     :)

All I wanna know is why didn't Bret Boone play like that in Atlanta???  He had Chipper and Andres hitting behind him, so he was getting pitches to hit!

hehe, no stars...  whatever.  Olerud is a fine first baseman.  Edgar Martinez is the best DH in the game.  Kasazaki (sp?) is the best closer in the game (he's better than Rivera, IMO).

What is REALLY scary...  just imagine if Pay-Rod had re-signed with the M's...  *shivers*

There is probably a fan in Texas seeing A-Rods stats with Mariners, asking the same question today with the Rangers...who knows, team chemistry? Coaching? Off season work?  The "Fog of Sports"...well, this great season is meaningless if they don't do as well in the play-offs as they have in reg. season ball...so, I'm trying to subside my excitement best I can, seen too many teams bite the big one (Remember, when I lived in Minnesota, I watched my beloved Minnesota Vikings go to 4 superbowls as heavy favorites only to fall flat on their ass)

Ummmm Mr. Bandwagon I posted that scarcely a month ago, not in April as you claim.  And A-Rod is having a great season in Texas.

Why post your BS on two boards when I only argued with you on one?  What's the matter, I scare you away with too many big words?

PS the Minnysoda Dikes didn't fall on their tulips in two of those games - they met a superior team - the Oakland Raiders (http://www.raiders.com/meta/Autumn_Wind.rm).

LOL Funked, ya, they met a team that changed about 10 rules in football, because the Oakland Jailbir...er Raiders exploited the game.  ;)
I posted on AGW so you wouldn't miss though numbers  ;)

Actually the Raiders only beat them once, I don't know what I was thinking.
And what's wrong with using industrial adhesives on the hands of recievers and defensive backs?   :)

M's have slipped to 27:13 in their last 40 games.  Of course, they were playing all sucky teams like cleveland, minesota, SF and boston.
