we need that snow covered russian map with yaks and la5's vs 109's
-
I am running it and should have the setup posted on the board here in a little while. I need to finish digging up some obscure factoids about a seldom used aircraft that may have been produced in enough numbers to have possibly seen combat.

The 3 cannon La-7? Why would you even put that thing in here... the La-5's run away from the 109's very effectively as is now.

Anyone familar with the Nomonhan Incident (Summer 1939)
russian vs japan
What planes would work with this scenerio?
-
Familiar with it yes.........However we don't have anything that would remotely work for that time frame. We would need I-15bis, I-16's, SB-2's, I-153's on the Russian side. The Russians had at least 5 squadrons of I-15's and 3 I-16 squadrons with at least one squadron of SB-2's. From what I have found on this side there are a couple of other squadrons which are unlisted for their aircraft.
For the Japanese we would need some Ki-27's and the "heavy bomber" of the time. According to some sources the Japanese only had four squadrons of Ki-27's available in the Nomohan Incident time frame. Also they had 4 light bomber squadrons and one heavy bomber squadron.
It has also been written that the Japanese pilots had over 1000 hours of training as compared to ~200 for the Soviet pilots at the time. This resulted in a vast difference in the kill claims of Japanese vs. VVS. The Russians claimed to have only lost ~250 aircraft and of those ~40 were non-combat related losses. Also it has been alleged that 4 Soviet aircraft were lost for every 1 Japanese aircraft lost.
But thats not going to be the setup...Although it would make an interesting late war what if setup if someone made a map and we used the 1944 aircraft of each side. Of course we would have to include the USAAF and RAF on the side of the VVS.

Not sure adding the USAAF would be needed, but it would be interesting seeing yaks, and la5 against am6a5, nik, ki84, and ki61.....

That would be cool. I think its even been suggested. I think the Yak9U holds up pretty well against the Ki-84 and Ki-61, a little more wobbly than the zero but it would be an interesting matchup.
