Title: Of Mice and Men...
Post by: NUTTZ on April 22, 2005, 10:41:53 AM
2 years ago I bought a house in the "burbs"

Me and the wife were very happy to get out of the city and into a single home on a half acre of ground, Until....

I had to Mow the lawn. reminds me of the saying " the world is small, but i wouldn't want to paint it."

We've heard of skunks, Appossums, rabbits, hawks, beavers, moles, deer, and other small mammals, But only seen them in the zoo, Until...Now.

Field Mice, Now heres our problem, they started coming into the house after I cut the lawn (which seems like 12 hours every weekend)

What are the best traps, what is the best bait?

After thousands of traps and different types of bait over a 2 year period heres our conclusion.

:Mice prefer burger king fries to McDonalds fries, Once the fries get cold, they stop eating them.

: Only the Male mice like Hooter's hot wings.
:Once the hot wings are consumed, they go after my beer.
:Mice prefer imported dark lagers over american light beer.

:Mice prefer hamburger over hotdogs.
:mice prefer roast beef over hamburgers Or Hotdogs.
:Mice could give a rats bellybutton about condiments.

:Mice HATE the cackling of my wifes voice. (especialy the "Take out the garbage screams)
:Once cornered,they will fight.

:mice prefer ruffled mesquet bbq chips over the "plain jane" chips
:mice love Cheeto's and porn.( although the female mice need a plot to the story) How do I know this? Lets just say I see alot more mice when I'm eating Cheeto's;)

:mice love to get into my "stash"
:the mice that DID get my "stash" had a slower reaction time to the trap:)

So that in a nutshell, my wife came to the conclusion, Men evolved from Mice.

Don't let the cat inside.  It is there to do a job not to lounge about inside your house.

That looks worse than the Mice we are catching!!

Like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
Then, I can get a dog to chase away that hairless.

Get a real airgun.

I have and recommend the TalonSS. Extremely accurate, built in suppressor,  adjustable power, huge air reserve, etc...

I pop paint-balls at 25 yrds easily.

On 2nd thought, if you have a bunch of mice you may need one of these. I have one with a laser sight.

Funny thread, I like bald kitties too :)

Actually most allergic people are not allergic to the hair. The allergenic substance are the flakes of skin that fall off living animals. The skin grows constantly and dead surface of the skin gets peeled off.

A hairless cat could be a nightmare for an allergic person.

Do some research and development.  Invent little "mouse mines" and plant them all over the place.  Get a patent of course! Might be entertaining watching all the little lawn explosions on a friday night, and all those weird gun/explosive/manly men types would eat it up!!  And you end up a mouseless gazillionaire!

Snakes. Lots of 'em. Non-allergenic and all.

one of my daughters best friends is allergic to cats so for the longest time she chouldnt come over our house to play with my daughter.

Recently her doctor gave her a perscription for it so its no longer a problem.

Get the cat. Getting rid of mice and other vermon is the only useful purpose cats have in this world. And they are very very good at it.

Certainly better then any store bought trap.

Course you could always move.

Very true...it's called "dander".

But with cats there is also something in its saliva that makes people alergic to them.

Don't get a cat.

Get more beer and cheeto's.

Have the mice do odd jobs around the neighborhood (IE: cleaning up cracker crumbs, cheeto fuzzies, and beer spills).

Teach the mice some simple tricks, put a sign in your front yard saying "Mouse Circus" and charge admission.

Send the wife packing (but offer her  a job as a mouse handler first).

Retire on the mouse money you will undoubtedly reap.

Buy more beer and cheeto's.

I know, I know.. a simple yet elegant solution. No thanks necessary.
Sometimes I even amaze me.

My brother left out a shallow saucer of beer when he had a mouse problem...  The next morning he found 2 dead mice that had drowned half in the beer.  Seems they drink until they pass out and drown.

I had a similar problem when we moved into an old house on an even older golf course that abuts the everglades. we were killing 5-9 mice a day with my sheridan pellet gun.  at some point they moved away.  mice are smart I guess.  i kind of miss them they were fun to shoot.  it got to point where my son and i were betting on which eye we would hit.  first get a pellet gun then cats would be my suggestion.  curval is correct cats don't need to be indoors and feed them just enough to keep them around that way they'll hunt.

There's alot, and I mean alot of hawks around. I think that keeps the critters at bay. The problem is I completely gutted the house and have 2 more rooms to completely tighten up, until then they get into the house from the crawl space under the house( single story Rancher). My neighbor's cat and another cat is always in my yard. One is a siemese (sp) the other is a big hugh orange tabby. The Tabby keeps getting attacked by the hawks. In fact I haven't seen the Tabby around in quite awhile. But I did notice the Hawks look alittle fatter.
