-

don't ever bank with them.
ever.
thanks.
-
i'm with BoA, no problems, but if i make a big purchase of something i do not normally buy , they will call me to comferm that i really bought it.
-
All those banks are no good.
I'm starting a new bank. Send me all your money for safe keeping.
-
I've only delt with the same little podunk hometown bank for 30 years. No problems so far.
-
Worse then BofA is that Stagecoach robber bank. What they did to turn a $5 overdraft on my account, into $200 in fees was truly a work of art.
-
Typical right wing hypocrisy. Obviously you had complete control over you overdraftness and now you are blaming corporate America for your troubles...
Personal responsibility my Donkey!
-
Simply saying don't deal with an institution is not much of a communication. Why should anyone not deal with them just because you say so?
-
I have use BoA for the past six years now. I like them. I get direct deposit so I know by 2am my check has cleared. I have never had them shut my card off. But I have had the "Mr Wells, this is blahuarenotimportantenoughfor metorememberyournameblah from Bank of America. I have a few questions from you. On such and such date we have you making a purchas from Best buy for a blah blah blah. I kind of like that they ask me. Lets me know they are looking out for me. Which is there job.

Lol, when I was in school we used to refer to those overdraft notices as "Good Banking Awards" heh.
It never occured to me to blame the bank. I guess I lack imagination.

when I draft a $500 rent check and take $20 out of an atm when $531 is in the account, then I am responsible on my end. When the check takes almost a week longer then normal to clear and coincidentaly $20 in fees is taken out the same day the check clears and my paycheck comes in I have no control over that.

ROFL! Something alont those lines hit me too!
I was with Wells Fargo, and I had them transfering 100 bucks of a direct deposit into a savings account. They charged me 5 bucks each pay period to do this (yes, it was stupid, I was 18, what do you expect lol). So ok, everythings cool.
I have about 20 bucks in the account, and I leave it idle when I get transfered to Texas. Now; I'm only going to be in Texas for 4 months, then I fully intend to go back to Wells Fargo when I get done with my training. Great. Everyone's happy.
Yet, every two weeks, Wells Fargo Charged me 5 bucks to transfer $0.00 from Checking to Savings. lol. You can imagine my surprise when I started to get "Good banking Awards" while I was in Texas. They had overdrawn the account with the fees, and were not coming after me for the service Charges.
It was all cleared up with 2 letters and about 4 phone calls, but still, it was pretty funny.

A check taking a long time to clear..is not usually the bank..but the person/business you wrote the check to sitting on it instead of cashing it. I've had checks as old as 2 months show up out of nowhere, but I keep track of my stuff so that the money is there for it, even if it takes a year.

huh?
it was you that ran it so close. were they new fees or the same ones you get every month and just don't account for properly or timely
BOA customer ever since they took over Barnett Bank - not a single problem

new
they saw an oppurtunity to get $500 from me, cause I was young and stupid and had my credit card tied into my account, the $20 they took was not a regular fee, it pushed my account into red, the rent check bounced it, they took 540 from my CC which blew the limit by $100 which genereated a fee which they took from my account as well as the hundred, thus generating 240 in they took from my checking when my paycheck was deposited then I took 20 out on the day my paycheck was deposited, thinking there is 260 still in, 20 wouldnt of done nothing but they took the $4 monthly regular fee out and suddenly the cycle started again, in the end they wanted almost $500 from me, but with phone calls and bank statements I managed to get it down to $200

Well, this happened to a friend of mine (thankfully it wasn't me). I can't remember how it came about, I just know the process:
They processed his house note's check first. It was good.
They processed his next bill, which put the account into overdraft.
They processed each other check, overdrafting, and compounding fees like crazy.
Had they processed all of the bills, then the house note, he would've only had a single $20 overdraft... instead of $400 from the compounded fees. Vicious cycle. It basically boils down to you have no choice in what order they process checks you send out (other than by spacing them out & waiting). If you write 5 checks at once, they process in the order Bank of America deems most important. Coincidentally, this is usually very bad for individuals and causes massive fees to pile up fast.
I still use Bank of America. I haven't been screwed over yet.

As with all 'overdrafts'....if you dont write checks you dont have the money to cover, you got no problem. You start writting checks you 'hope' to have the money to cover in a few days, and you gots an issue.
As far as the house check clearing 1st, many times checks are RETURNED for bouncing (hence the term bounce), and if the bank ran all the small checks 1st and returned the guys mortgage, I can hear it now how the bank screwed him:rofl
Reminds me of a lady at work. I was in the lunchroom and she and a friend walked in, and the first lady said:
"I can believe what a moron that cop is....I got a ticket on Main street from him YESTERDAY for going 45 in a 30, the TODAY that idiot gave me another ticket for doing 45 in a 30 in the exact same spot, youd think he'd have something better to do."
I have never met either of these two ladies before, but sometimes you just cant let things stand....as her friend started to give the requisit "wow thats crappy of him" condolance....I piped up with:
"Now let me get this straight...you got nailed for speeding in a residential zone JUST YESTERDAY on the way to work...you did it AGAIN today, get caught...AGAIN...and you think the cop is the moron?"
The silence puntuated with her mouth hitting the floor was something to behold. Yea its the banks fault...the cops fault....anyone but you my dear LOL.

Didn't have a problem using their ATM, thats as far as my service experiements goes to :D
A hundred bucks was worth like 75 euros..
-
I do all my banking at credit unions and with USAA.
-
Been with BOA for years now...no complaints so far.
I was with First Union (now Wachovia) and they dicked with me royally.
I will never bank with Wachovia just because it was First Union :P
-
I have BoA for 5-6 years. Never had a problem. Online banking is awsome!

what exactly are the differences between credit unions and banks?
-
Never used one of the big bank branches.
Never trusted them, but I doubt they are any worse than the little podunk ones in our little towns.
Case in point:
About three months ago, I get my bank statement in the mail, I open it and to my surprise, where I am expecting to see a balance of $500 and change in my checking account, there is $6300......hhhhhhhmmmmmmmm.
Call the bank, like a honest dumbarse, and ask them what is going on......seems they deposited someone else's money into my account. Okay, being honest, I help them figure out who the money rightly belongs to and authorize the withdrawal of the funds from my account.
End of the month comes up and there is a $250 "transaction fee" for THEIR mistake, which put me in the red (I was out work at the time and operating on a shoestring budget, but I kept my account in the black at all times), and I get a phone call telling me I need to bring the account up at least a zero balance from a negative one with two days or they are going to close the account. They charged me for their screw up, then wondered why I was a not so nice person when I walked across the street for a face to face chat with the bank president.
Did I get it resolved? Nope.
The bank pres told me I could have kept the money, as it was the bank's error, not mine, however, my business would no longer have been welcome there. The SOB pretty much laughed at me the whole time, implying that I was screwed no matter what I did, cause they had a "right" to charge me that transaction fee and I had recourse other than to get the account current or lose it.
Right now, I use my checking account for times when I need to mail a payment off or send money to school with my son.
Other times, it is cash and carry. I am tired of banks coming up with fees to suit themselves.
Anyone else ever got charged a fee for an "excessive deposit"?
I got one of those from a local credit union I banked with for a short time.........deposited a paycheck and since it was for over $2000, they charged me as it was "excessive for the type checking account you have." I was urged to change to a different type account to avoid a reoccurence, but in the fine print, I was gonna be charged fees anytime the account balance dropped below $10K. Goodbye credit union........:lol

How do you manage 5 tickets in two years, you wearing blinders or a bag on your head or what?
-
First Midwest is what I use. They actually make me money. They give $25 each time someone new starts an account off of your opinion. For example, I told my gf to open an account and she said she got the idea from me.
Pretty quick people, online accounts are updated within the day with withdrawls and deposits.
