Would anybody besides me be intersted in having a forum for model builders. I'd love to see the models built by AH'ers of their favorite rides, share modeling tips and secrets, post photos, etc.
Modeling (building the plastic ones, not prancing down the runway) is what got me interested in WWII aviation. When I was a kid, I had about every 1/32 WWII fighter made hanging from my ceiling. Since I've been on medical leave for about the last year and a half, I've started building them again for something to releive the boredom. (You can imagine the sticker shock going from paying $2.50 - $3.00 back in the early '70's, to what they charge for 1/32 scale models now!)
Anyway, if others are interested, let's hear about it.

Sounds like a good idea, I normally post my pictures/questions at the Aircraft and Vehicles forum, but having a special forum would be great
-
I never get enough of seeing the incredible job folks do on their models...sounds great to me.
-
Sounds good:aok
-
Great Idea:aok What does everyone build?
I build mostly WWII Japanese in 1\48 scale.I am working on a acptured B-17E with paragon conversion, aires engines, eduard photo etch, verlinden set and aries guns.
Also scratch building the interior for ki67 sanger vac kit.
-
I'm working on a 1/32nd scale series. Currently starting with the 2 aircraft I've worked on for the past 10 years (F-15C and F-15E). I'm currently fiddling with a 1/48th scale Raptor so I can get back into things. I haven't done models since I was about 12.
In the end I'd like to do a fairly large US fighter inventory. I'm not sure just how to go about it since there are just so many fighters out there. I may do the well known fighter aircraft throughout US history.
-
Although I used to like the 1/32 models, my current budget dictates that I wrok mostly in the 1/48 scale.
Currently I'm working on trying to get the major fighters for each of the main combatants in WWII done and hung up. One corner of the ceiling is USA, then Japanese, then German, then British. (No corners left for Italian, French, etc.....sorry.)
Was looking at a picture of my room when I was a kid - what ever happened to all those models anyway? I know the battleships met their end in the swimming pool and on irrigation days after having had their hulls filled with black powder and/or firecrackers. But the planes, for the life of me I can't remember what happened to them. Oh well, memory is the ? number thing to go?

John that's the nice thing about my job is I can afford the larger models. Problem is finding good companies to purchase from and finding them in 1/32 scale.
I know Tamiya has an extremely well built F-16 out. The guys over at Black box are making a full resin cockpit kit for it. It will require some adjustments to the main fuselage to make it fit though. The reason for that is supposedly the model isn't as accurate as some would like. No big deal to me. I'd rather have it as authentic as possible.
I know I plan on getting alot of stuff from BB, Flightpath and Cutting edge for my C and E model.

I tried to get that collection of aircraft for WWIIalso john.
I ended up with over 2000 models still trying to thin it out:lol
I had every version of the 109,190,spit hurricane,p-51 ,p-47,p-40 etc,etc,etc
I work with resin, plastic, vacuform and wood. Then I had to start with the reference material.Lots of bucks there:lol
I decided to settle on Japanese as it was more challaging because of the lack of reference, even had to learn how to read a little japanese.
It,s a great hobby and now I live in Dayton and have a huge museum for all other reference except japanese:lol
As for cobra.Tamiya makes awesome kits and so does trumpeter. The f-16 is the only new kit from Tamiya in 1/32.Academy is the best bet foe f-18.
I have had the great opputunity to have a booth next to Black Box at 3 shows. His stuff is awesome and fits perfect if you follow his instructions. This is the same guy who made KMC resin.Just him,his wife and 2 workers do all the work.He is the only designer. He is currently working on the conversion for the Trumpeter 1/32 Avenger to make it an eary 1-C and hopes to release it at the national convention in Atlanta.

A forum for scale modeling would be pretty cool.

Darn it Pongo! It's hard enough trying to keep up with reading the AH BBS, finishing the kits I've got in progress, flying AH once in a while, seeing children occaisionaly, and now you've got to go and show me another BBS that'll keep me occupied - thanks a lot!
No, really, I appreciate it, I really do!

well john, we mustn't overlook....

Another Modeling Site (http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/)

Thank you Cobra - I especially enjoyed the section with different tips and tricks. Well illustrated with photos and easy to understand. I'll definitely be checking back here for ideas!
While we're adding websites to check, what about:
http://www.finescale.com
It's the page for "Fine Scale Modeler", and also includes a help and tips section, discussion forums, etc. I subscribe to this magazine - they almost always discuss WWII aircraft kits, as well as GV's, etc.
-
If we get a special forum for modelling, we should have stickies with modelling tips and such!
By the way, here's a model I made:

I make minicraft models, { 1/177th scale } i like them for the small size, but still great detail "i guess"
Only planes i dont have, is the temp "bah" and the p40e.
They only cost like 10 bucks a kit,and are so small you can place them just about anywhere, right now i have a p51 and 47 "taped" to the top of my monitor.
I never realy liked big models, could never play with them without brakeing them,im a hands on guy.
Pluss the planes are so small, you can glue a straw to them, and show people combat menuvers and such, without hanveing a 2 pound plastic model hanging off the front.
and they double as a dog chokeing device "that will teach you to eat my p40e yah bastage, Rip muttly" ...now to find another p40e 1/177 scale at long's,no luck so far,and that was like 8 years ago, sighs.
Guess i should order a catalog.

What size P-38? I'm working on a 1/6th scale P-47D, for the
last 2 years, its in paint and final assembly now, expect the 1st
flight in the fall. Gonna take some time to work up the nerve
to put that baby in the air :D
I've also got a F4U in 1/5th scale that I am working on a little
at a time (saving up for retracts and engine)

Why? This is not a modeling webpage. While we may be interested in models (I know I sure am), this isn't the best place. I find ARC (aircraftresourcecenter.com) to be one of the best forum-oriented places for discussing models and the world thereof.

ok guys your own little slice of heaven lol click here (http://www.ah-films.com/bb/)

model forum sounds good to me!
1/48 rules!
