Tamiya stuff has always been pretty good and I have always like the M26. I am thinking of ordering from Tower, have any of you used them or built one of these?Tamiya page (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=56016)

nope..allways wanted too:) i got a tamiya yamato model..im very impressed with the quality..its 1/250th scare i beleve...but very well made and got grease filled drive lines so you can put real motors in it and float it..even little rubber tubes to act like u joints,,,its very neat:)
-
Tower is solid. Been dealing with them for 10+ years. And I have Tamiya stuff from back then that still runs great with zero maintenance.
If you need batteries talk to Hangtime (http://www.hangtimes.com/), FDB's very own RC expert.
-
Cool thanks for the link Funked.
I wana get high quality bateries so it will drive for more then 15 minutes.
I have wanted a tank like this for years, ever since the local hoby shop had a gepard (lepard one AA gun thing?) sitting in a display case all ready to go.

Always wondered where Hangtime went. He doin OK?

Jeeze Louise, lookit whut the cat coughed up!
Heya Midnight!
I'm still kickin.. the last few years have been a bit of a scramble.. after 20 years of pissin off my boss on a daily basis he decided on a new venue.. and i was out on my arse.
I sold the boat, bought a welder and hopped right back in the battery game as his competitor... it's all good; cheers me up every day, and I manage to piss him off even more than when I was under his thumb. :D
Only down tick is I'm workin 15 hour days, leaves no time (or spare change) for bleeding edge computers and virtual flying.
Now, back to the thread... GtoRA2, be advised, the Tamiya M4 is not made of asbestos, so a scale 'ronson' performance is a one-time thing. ;)
-
Crap GTO now I'm thinking about building one.
-
Funked,
Get the tiger, then we can have a war!
I would avoid the M4, some of the reviews I have read say it is the worst of the lot because it is the oldests.
I like the Tiger and King tiger, and I bet they have more room inside. The M-26 is supposed to be packed solid once built.
I just love the pershing, my second favorite tank.
1: the M-48A3
2: The M-26
3: M1A1
4: M3lee(yes I know it was crappy but its cool looking!)
I am going to order from tower this afternoon. But I will buy metal tracks from Backyardarmor.com.
-
Wow.. nice GTO. I would sure like to do the tiger or the Leopard. The Pershing looks very good too.
If you do decide to build it then post pics of your progress. :)
Hope they decide to make a T-55 some day.

"Jeeze Louise, lookit whut the cat coughed up!"
Holy crap!
Welcome back!

Wazzup, Thrawn!
I'm pretty sure we can pull together a telemetry packge for these tanks, all of it's off the shelf stuff these days... panning live video feed; speed, direction, even GPS is possible; sit at a card table with your laptop and your r/c gear with a beer...
Add a paintball gun and it would make playin "clank, clank, I'm a tank.." a bit more interesting... pick a 'ft irwin' like desert locale and duke it out with a similarly equipped tank squad, or just tool up yer street some dark night to seek revenge on an errant neighbors mailbox!
That's whut I love about R/C.. so many interesting ways to have fun!
;)

Is there any hardware/software available out there that enables you to control R/C cars or tanks from your computer?
-
just ordered it from tower, hopefully I will have it by friday!
Also ordered the Elite armor idler upgrade, metal treads, and some other nicknacks.
I will buy the paint localy, gonna have to go to storage and get all my model making gear now.
-
Geez Hangtime, I still have the charting CDs you wanted. Course, they are kinda dated now....shoot me a private message on my forums sometime, if you still want them. I also have some other nav software if you are interested
-
How much is it?! Jeeez! If it was that expensive, it'd better have an inflatible doll and a lifelike mouth!
-
Good to see you Hangtime.:)
This is off subject, but reminded me about something. Does anyone remember the toy tank sold years ago, mid-60s?, that had the walkie talkie controller with about a ten foot wire. "Toy" is misleading because this thing was big, about thirty inches total length and about 16 inches wide. It had a gun that fired a shell by spring action, and you could even place talcum powder in a special slot for the smoke effect. Can't remember what it was called, but it was styled after an American tank and had a triangular decal with a tiger on it.
That was a lot of fun for an inexpensive toy tank. It had no suspension though and wasn't good on hills or uneven terrain. But it looked pretty cool, and that was the best part.

Gtora2, I really thought you should know something, here is what the Pershing box says in small print:
:(
This RC Tank product contains chemicals that are known to the State of California to cause cancer, baldness and impotence. Immediately upon delivery please hand this product over to your local professional chemical waste disposal agents. You can arrange a pick up time by emailing greenheart@state.prc.gov
Thanks!
;)
Looks like it will be a fun model, congrats.

You want a cheap way to build a 1/6 scale RC Combat Tank?
I was considering buying and building a Tamiya Tank, Just kept putting it off.
So I come home from work on my birthday and my girlfriend is like your birthday present in the car, but you have to carry it in. I was like Huh?
It was the Motorworks 1/6 Scale Tank, I had mentioned at Wally World one time how I thought it was cool.
Sucker is pretty strong and gets a good 35 45 minutes of time on the battery. I had her out in the Snow in Feburary. Then I stumble on a Tank Combat Site and this guy had a whole tutorial on how to customize it. Mine is just collecting dust at the moment, but I'm gonna try and do it.
Check it out:
