Title: Anton Hackl top USAAF scorer?
Post by: agent 009 on April 27, 2005, 03:22:17 AM
Officially Hackl is # 4. But he had 24 additional gun camera evidence shootdowns. 47 plus 24 = 71. But some of extra 24 would have been Brit, so best guess, between 55 & 70 usaaf shootdowns. Bartels possibly highest exclusively USAAF fighters.

P.S. Hackl's record is one of the most confusing of all. Diferent sites report different stuff. 25 bombers, or 32, or 34. East front 105, or 118, or 136. West front 64, or 74.

best guess, 2 norway, 116 east front, 74 west, ( 14 med ), according to stackpole new german aces book that is. Usually reported as 6 in med. As I said, confusing.

PS PS. I believe "X" stands for mosquito.

Let me refine that. 118 east front, 74 west, ( including 2 Norway, 14 med, 58 west Europe ), = 192.

plus 24 gun camera extras. If extra 24 were accepted, it would read 118 east, 98 west. total 216.

Not a bad career anyway you tally it. Shot down 8 times, much less than Bar or Rudorrfer.

Where you find the info about 24 extra guncamera kills? kills in Me 262?

List of kills of Kurt Welter,  Rudolf  Rademacher  and Georg-Peter Eder with Me 262 maybe no 100% accurate.

Sorry for my english.

English no prob. Or engrish as they say in Japan. Hackl did not fly 262. Did fly 109, 190 & Dora. Most sites mention 24 extras.
he got a Lancaster, a mustang & a Mosquito in 5 minutes one time. soething like that.

In the book Luftwaffe combat aiecraft in profile # 2, a Russian pilot mentioned how good he was. He gave us a lot of problems he said.

Of his 8 shootdowns, one was a B-17 in med, A friend mentioned in the book batttle of berlin that he was hit one time as he was headed down runway about to take off, & marauding mustangs came in at treetop level & caught him.

The other 6 times don't have any info on. In east front most shootdowns of German planes were from antiaircraft guns. So one would guess a few of his 6 other times were from these.

Will dig up something for you soon. Horrido!

Here we go Dark. hers is 24 extra shootdown data.

During the last ten months of the war Hackl was credited with 43 confirmed victories, including 20 achieved in 1945. His last 24 victories were never officially confirmed. Anton Hackl survived the war but died on 9 July 1984 in Regensburg.
Anton Hackl flew about 1000 combat missions and shot down 192 enemy aircraft: 131 on the Eastern Front and, from 61 victories in Africa and on the Western Front, were 34 four-engined bombers. He was second on the list of Viermottöter. He was shot down 8 times and wounded 4 times.

Notice it says 131 east kills. & the one above says 105. & the one at top says 118.
