Hitchhikers guide is opening out here in BFE tonight.
reviews? post em here.
:)

I though you were taking about stealing hotel towels at first.
-
Just seen the previews on TV..not too impressed by that...
The Heart of Gold, which is described as looking like a white sleek running shoe in the books..is portrayed as a big white Golfball in the movie...not to mention Marvin looks stupid as hell...I'll go see it, but I hope they didn't change the story too much. At least Trillian doesn't seem to be a dumb Blonde as was portrayed in that abortion of a TV series they tried to do a while back.
"Hey you sass that hoopy ASTAC? Now there's a frood that really knows where his towel is"
-
If it's bad, I'll just assume there's a SEP field in place.
I've heard that the movie is almost, but not entirely, unlike the book. I look forward to seeing it anyhow, I have a history of enjoying movie adaptations that are less then completely faithful (Starship Troopers, for example).
-
Verhoeven would not have been able to pull off Starship Troopers had he done it like the book.
There are just some things you cannot make into a movie.
-
I expect the BBC version will prove to be better. but I'll go see iot to make sure.

Ive always liked to watch BBC for shows instead of the american version. When it aired, I watched Red Dwarf all the time before it was cancelled. Season 8 seems dry and wasnt as funny or original at the ones before it. Was that the last season for the entire show?
-
So long...and thanks for all the fish.

of course. the book takes the militaristic stance seriously. It would make a freaking boring movie :P
-
I loved the book. Don't know if I will go see the movie, maybe wait till it comes on DVD. It looks like something I'd rather watch at home than in theaters.
-
MSN thinks its good (http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=189572)

Adams himself, in the foreword to the compendium admits that NONE of the various versions agree or have any relevance to the other iterations, so there really is no room to ***** about the movie being "different" than the radio show/books. If the movie sucks as a stand-alone thing, that is a valid complaint, however.

or Steve's crying towels from the ladies' washroom when AH2 came out.
LOL, still a **** huh?

Poor Steve. He was never again the same after they took away his ability to kill with an 800yd shot! ;)
-
Isn't that with Tom Cruise? bleh... Think I'd rather watch the tutsi version then.
Oh and GS, bravo on the "Colonial" statement, almost peed my pants :D
-
all the terminally hip will make this a must see movie.
lazs

Was very good.
-
3 out of 5.
The pacing of most of the jokes just doesnt transfer to the movie. Most of the people laughing were laughing becuase they remembered how funny that part of the book was not becuase how funny it was in the movie.

Circumventing language filter

Now, this explains my SA in the MA perfectly, doesn't it?
-
I never really got into "Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy" but I loved "Red Dwarf" how could you not laugh when you have a character called "Rimmer" :lol
...-Gixer
-
sigh.
didnt do it for me.
missed sooooooo many opportunities.

Honestly I've never read the book, I was allways into other sci fi series stuff. With that said I will probably enjoy the movie.
Often enough I see a movie that enlightens me to the book and I end up enjoying the book AND movie that much more.
The book because I have a better visual understanding to build on
The movie because It isn't ruined by a preconcieved notion of what to expect.
Several examples of this are:
Starship Troopers: (NOTHING ALIKE but cheasy acting aside the movie was good and the book was excellent)
Battlefield Earth: The book went into alot more detail. The movie wasn't the greatest but enjoyable.
There's alot more but I can't think of them now.

Hey Beet, I have have quite a bit of good financial fortune lately. Keep rattling my cage and I'm gonna come to England and plant a boot in your arse! 800 yard shots.......you know I didn't waste my ammo on that. Hell, I still have my convergence at 250 lol
-
Steve - you're welcome here any time. BTW, you never did say why you thought AH2 sucked. I'm eager to hear...
-
Beet, AHII doesn't suck for me, I suck at AHII
:lol

It was enjoyable. Sorta. None of the characters were "just right" to me, but then I have no idea how to articulate who WOULD be, so I guess thats not a good criticism. Although the movie didnt truly follow the book, Douglas Adams DID write the screenplay, so I assume he knew what he was doing with his own work. Marvin wasnt quite the "look" I had pictuered, but his voice and attitude (and Eddie's as well) were right on and hilarious. I was happy enough that they included the scene with the whale falling out of the sky and whomping into the planet with a mushroom cloud above him.
Anyway, not bad.

Was there also the bowl of petunias that thought to itse;f "oh no, not again!" in the whale scene?
-
Hehe, yep. Which is why the scene worked. They actually did that part right on.
-
It blew. Too much was left out and as a result the whole movie was vague and pointless. It seems they always focus on the effects these days... the movie should have had little to do with them.

I agree and disagree with you. In some aspects I love when movies have all the visual CG eye candy. BUT, it can be overdone. For instance Lucas aside the effects in the last two star wars were WAY overdone.
