Title: Hoeing
Post by: 68DevilM on April 30, 2005, 07:47:00 PM
ohh no not another hoeing post.

is it just me or does it seem that 75% of all players you encounter in the MA seem to try the hoe shot on the first pass?

also noticed that another 75% of the time
when they try ill end up killing them anyways, cause they pissed me off.

first pass set up, second game on:aok

Well the HO's I can deal with, part of the game. What frustrates me is when there in a plane that out turns me and they don't even try any type of ACM to get on my six. Just turn into ya for a HO shot. Most of the time they will screw that up too. Cause most of those types are Nuggets anyway. :p

I was in a h2h arena, and I spent about 30 minutes telling the players how hoeing is kinda lame, and how you should merge etc, but some guy named "Seano" says:"If you merge then you die"and he says it takes 2 people to Ho. Witch is wrong, if two planes are going head on most of the time, well me I'm thinking hes going to merge with me etc. He was from the MA also, but most of the new guys in there
didnt know it was so bad. I think thats what happens in the MA, either they want a kill bad. Or just dont know what there doing.

I'm going out on a limb here, but if 75% of the guys you meet
are trying to HO you on the first pass, may I suggest not flying
directly towards them?

Yes this is what im learning as of now. See I was taught you need to merge at same alt. So that is why I used to go head on, but ive stoped now.;)

I have noticed that the majority use the HO as their primary merge tactic followed by a dive to the deck after the merge.

The Knitwits are just as guilty as the Rookies or the Bishops.  But then some Knitwits just bail out instead of fighting.

Some observations I have made.....As skill increases, the urge to HO drastically disapates....the MA has become so HO Dweebish, that when I actually get a real head on to a merge I know i better have my game face on because im up against one of the few good pilots....or just some crazy noob lol...

another observation I have noticed on the merge issssssssssssssssss.....most vets opening move will be full back elevator trim...notch of flaps and a hammerhead type maneuver into the vertical to pounce on your opponent...lately that is my move of choice and it almost always works....most noobs will either break in the horizontal or wing over and dive....

umm..ya

In thinking about it for just a sec, I guess in some ways the HO shooters are giving it away.  I feel much more confident if they stay in and fight that I can get them.

Now if the guy doesn't HO and I see him stick the nose down just a touch I figure he's going to go vertical and I've got my work cut out for me :)

I dunno betty,

I for one enjoy purusing the forums watching my pals take shots at nitwits who couldn't fight there way out of... what was it someone said, a retirement home bathroom?!  Of course I haven't actually played AH in a long time but a squadmate's word is good enough for me.

Look every thread I read on here has someone talking all sorts of watermelon to someone else.  It's great fun.  Talking proper smack takes skill and it's fun too. :)

My take on HO's.  Avoid them.  If a guy is going for an HO he's not thinking about the massive amount of smack down you are about to lay on him.  Most fights where someone was intent on the HO were easy wins assuming I didn't get cherried.

Now I do on occasions. If you are vulching and I made it up I will HO. I am slow, you have alt, speed, and choice.

If you have already tried to HO me, if we come nose to nose again I will HO.

If you try to come nose on and I am in a 110 I will HO because you are an idiot. :D

Post by: Krusty on May 01, 2005, 05:41:40 PM
*stands up*

*ahem*

Hi everybody

My name is Krusty and... I'm a face shooter.

I used to do it a lot. Frankly I got good at it. REAL good. I could shoot down anybody that was trying to avoid me in the worst possible ways. Full rudder? I nailed 'em. Vertical separation? I nailed 'em. Horizontal separation? Still nailed 'em. Both seperation? Nailed 'em but felt better because it was more challenging.

Want the inside about HOing? It's hard in some situations. Granted not many but some. I started being a poor pilot. I still am. I get some kills, but still. So anyways I would HO because I invariably would get saddled up by some SpitTard in the uber +16boost spitcopter. I refused to fly the spitV. Even in AH1 I avoided it. If anything I'd take Seafire, but that's only marginally less dweebish. So because I couldn't out turn or out accelerate what every other pilot in the room was flying I'd face shoot. 190As with 4 guns instead of 2 (always take 4, even if you don't face shoot), or the A8 with the wonderful 30mm. I didn't do Hurc2s or temps, I at least mixed things up to try to learn.

There comes a point when you say "okay I've got to learn some things". At this point you actually start trying. I hit this point a long time back. I'm still just barely past it (lol -- my spanking at the hands of a yak9U over and over last night was proof I haven't learned much!). So I try slightly more manuverable planes, which means inevitably less forward firepower, less chance of winning a HO (50/50 odds suck) so you start to avoid the HO because you can't shoot back. Of course hizookas kill in 1 ping almost every time, but I don't fly planes that have them.

Then things change to the point you understand getting a good position helps a LOT. Then you don't HO even if you have a good plane because you're concerned more with positioning for the inevitable zoom after the merge. Hell if I could do a shallow dive and still maintain guns lock I'd fire off a burst or two, but they're mutually exclusive.

Frankly, having experienced many newbies' attempts to face shoot, run, and repeat, I can say most just don't even try.

Then some do try. I had a frustrating fight with a pilot in an La5 (the room I was in had the La7 disabled or he'd be in that no doubt). The pilot ran for a sector but couldn't lose me, so we fought, G6 vs La5. Once we started fighting it was a series of high/low loops of me trying to get any angle on him but at every loop he'd face shoot repeatedly. He was trying. I grant him that. But it was frustrating on MY end because he only ever tried to loop for the next HO. I was a bit gruff with the pilot, who thought it was a great fight at the time. For that pilot it was a step in the right direction. For me it was not. Are HOs good? Sure! Just depends what level you are at, and what you try to do with your abilities.

I think that 90% of all gripes would disappear if new players' accounts were NOT allowed to fly dora, temp, n1k2 or lgay7 until the account had so many hours of flight time in (4 months of regular use, say). There would still be HOs, but they'd be by people that were at least beginning to try, and even if you got hit by one you'd realize the pilot had a valid move. This, instead of thinking that pilot was an idiot and a fool, or whatever the current sentiment is.

Keep in mind not everybody is as good as y'all are. I sure as hell ain't. If I face shoot you it may be a moment of relief for me, knowing I stopped you from unquestionably outflying me.

Bah, sorry for the long post. Am at work. Bored right now.

You should also check out the 479th "Riddle's Raiders" Fighter Group (http://479th.jasminemarie.com/) and NetAces (http://www.netaces.org) websites.  Both have excellent training tips and lectures (479th training guides/lectures are geared towards the P-38 driver) and the 479th has a very good library of AH and AH2 films.

I do find it a bit funny that you guys characterize, so seriously, two stick twisting gamers as "fighting", as if it takes any level of bravery to twist joysticks on a computer screen.

Then again playing this game might be the bravest thing you've ever done, so live vicariously if it works for ya.

Says the guy who's afraid to fight and bails out every chance he gets.

Obviously it takes some level of bravery, as whatever quantity you have isn't enough.

I do believe he calls it "fighting" because in this game it is considered "dogfighting" so "fighting" would be short for that. And i did see your "1 on 1" with morph WTG :aok  I love the digital badass as well, great movie, tell your boyfriend i said hi xmarine

Most likely he'll think you're a wuss for running then bailing out unless he's just as timid as you are which in that case you two will have fun in the closet.  I guess you and your buddy are lucky the Pentagon has that "Don't ask, Don't tell policy".

Pellik he doesn't bail to annoy people. He does this because when knows he can't win he'd rather have an excuse to fall back on instead of looking like a fool.

He went on and on about 3 nights ago saying he was flying intelligently. If he's outnumbered or at a disadvantage he just bails out to save his pilot. Mind you he does this without ever making any kind of real effort to even the odds and put up a fight.

He basically sounds like a quitter. I didn't realise they taught Marines to be that way. Maybe this one is just a special case.

Edit: Ack-Ack considering he's in North Hollywood you might actually be on to something. :rofl

:rofl

My take on this chode is the following:  He isn't an "Ex-Marine", because he washed out.

What are the odds y'all could steer things away from the armed services before someone says something that really pisses someone off.  That's just my opinion.  It's all in good fun till the thread gets locked lol.

I have found a good thing to stop me from getting hoed, when I see someone going head on with me. I can tell how there flying if there going to Ho, or merge. A hoer will most likely try to match his flight path with yours. So if you see that I recomened diving and then pulling up under him, or getting some alt. I've been testing it out in the h2h arena and its been working for me.

The only problem with that is the other plane only needs to roll inverted and pull into you as you dive under and stitch his rounds from your nose to tail as you dive under.  Barrel roll is far more effective.

Thats all I usually encounter these days are ho's rather than ACM.  When I see people start to ho, I fire my 38 guns and I usually win in the ho.

LOL.. this is the difference between some of you and me, you actually think this game relates to "real life".

Wanna compare life stats boy?

MCRD San Diego Platoon 1053 1987
Ft Sill OK MOS 0847 training 1988
Assigned 5/14 Marines USMCR 1988
LASD Sheriffs academy class 261 1990
Voluntary activation FMF, assigned operation Desert Storm 1990 (deployed 1991)
Re-assigned 5/14 USMCR 1991
Los Angeles "Summer Games", aka "riots" 1992 (JDIC 1906 was my Department for those clever enough)

Come on down to Mikes Pub Lankershim & Oxnard N. Hollywood most any Wed night, I'll show you all the pictures, my old Marine / police ID, CCW, POST cert.. all of it.

That goes for anyone here in So cal.

How about you Karaya? Is your resume being a "brave" Aces High "fighter pilot"

>>and he says it takes 2 people to Ho. <<
He is repeating what he heard, probably from some post here on the BBs. The HO is annoying, and not the smartest acm tactic. True it was used during WW2 and other wars but NOT exclusively. Yes it does take 2 for an HO; somebody has got to be the target of the dweeb who attempts to use it constantly.

You know Karaya I dont really mind you much, but the fact you are calling someone else's military career into question when you yourself have never servered is just in poor taste. I dont know anything about this dude. He seems to be alittle bit of an ultra melon but lets keep it in perspective and leave the military out of it please.

Sure, but I was told that "Once a Marine, ALWAYS a Marine".   I've never come across someone who is a Marine say, "I'm an E-Marine".

Now crawl back into your hole please.

68, after it's all said and done you will have a sense of pride for having served. Most guys I know who served in the corps have that, and they do it quietly; they do not blame others for not having served as you have not. I thank you for stating the day to day realities of it. I also appreciate your service.

This was my primary HO evasive in AH1 when gunnery was a lot easier then it is now. With enough verticle seperation and a well timed pull up the shot is close to impossible to hit, and I'm now verticle while the other guy is in a dive. Roll 180 in the immel and I'm saddled up.

I find barrel rolls get me shot in the face about 10% of the time with all the sniper dweebs in the MA.
