Title: Tactical advantage by not seeing skins
Post by: Janov on May 01, 2005, 04:47:33 PM
I noticed recently that some of my Vehicle-enemies were really standing visibly out in the green terrain because they were driving the standard-skin Panzer IV, which is sand-yellow. I have "see other players skins" (or whatever thats called) enabled in the graphics options, but I am thinking about disabling it - that way I can ALWAYS spot Panzer IVs and Ostwinds really easy...

So I think having this option enabled is a disadvantage, because experienced players will pick skins which are hard to spot. I hope that HTC will force a standard skin according to the terrain, i.e. a lighter green for the new terrain instead of the desert-camo. The other option would be to force everybody to view other players skins.

Or possibly have it so that GV skins are not optional...

After all this effort to allow custom skins, the most logical choice would seem to be requiring other players to see the skin you choose.  No other option.

After all, in many war theaters some equipment for one reason or another usually lacks optimum camouflage.  In the high tech mideast wars we still often see desert unforms made highly visible by olive drab accessories more suited to Europe or the jungle.

Conversely, when enjoying superiority, friendly equipment sometimes is made more gaudy to avoid friendly fire, e.g., the stripes on Normandy invasion aircraft.

It's great Aces High has good skins on the default aircraft, and glorious that it allows custom skins to take even better advantage of changing terrain and scenarios.
