In an interview with Koroush Ghazi from my favorite tweaking page, Tweakguides.com, MSNBC takes a look at PC gaming.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7652606/
Enjoy!

Thanks for the referral. The article linked to tweakguides.com, which looks to be a great source of information for us gamers.
The article mentioned that PC gamers are migrating to consoles. And, I laughed when I read it.
When my little cousin comes over with his PS2, I play some games with him just to keep him busy. But, after playing that gamey cr8p for 30 minutes, I thank Cod for PC-based games, like AH. lol.

My first on-line FPS was Quake2 in 1997.
I showed the game to my 16 year old son who "Hated"
computers.
He was hooked on computers from then on.
He is now an IT Director of a company making loads of dough.
All thanks to iD and Quake2.
PC games forever!

Hey, it IS MSNBC after all. Reading about PC gaming on their site is a little like hearing my grandma talkin street slang.
And the tweakguide site is pretty awesome. No matter what your rig is setup like, you can find something useful there I think.

A 24 year old IT Director?
-
Oh yeah? Well I showed my sister a computer when she was 7. Now she flies the space shuttle.
-
Yup, he just turned 25.
He did freelance work for the company while he was still in college and they liked him so much that they gave him the IT Directors job.
He was in the right place at the right time.
-
I recently made IT DIrector too, but I am 40 years old and have been working in IT for 16 years. 319 employees and ~$250M gross revenue.
-
Well his company is not that large Edbert, far from it.
It is a Physical Therapy Center.
Probably 60 or 70 employees and I have no idea about their annual revenues, but they are making enough money to pay my son a very good salary.
Tonight we are going for a ride on his new boat.
Life is good, sometimes.

Indeed!
I'm sure he earned it, I wasn't trying to diminish his accomplishments at all. Considering where my soon-to-be-20 son is at in his life right now I'd be quite proud too!

Big deal. I invented the space shuttle.

Not a problem Edbert, I didn't take it that way at all.
One BIG problem that I have noticed. My son is always on call. I mean the phone can ring at midnight because the Boss can't get his email, or the web site is acting wacky, or the cable modem just exploded, or the ..........well you get the idea.

I pulled the universe outta my prettythang.
(actually true story. I was at a party back in the school days, and I sat on the couch and let out a surprised yelp, i just sat on a book stuck in the couch. Everyone looked as I reached back and pulled out Steven Hawkings, "A brief history of time"...so a little embarrased by the unwanted attention, i proclaimed, "By god! I just pulled the universe outta my prettythang". Leave out the jokes ok...I don't wanna hear about black holes or brown dwarfs, I heard 'em all that night).

Market share of PC gamers is decreasing steadily.
RIght now the PC market is about 1/4th to 1/3rd of the overall videogames market. Rest goes to the consoles. PS2 games market is on its own easily double, triple the PC market.
Nothing to laught about. PC players buy less and less games, while number of console owners increases.

I was laughing because - as far as I'm concerned - PC gameplay is 1,000 more fun than ANY console game. And, gamepads are ghey. :D

There's really only a couple of things keeping PC games alive as a viable market. MMOGs, and the upgradability and sheer power of the PC platform as compared to consoles.
The biggest draws of the X Box? Comes with everything you have to buy extra with a PS2, has a hard drive for saving information instead of plug-in chips, and it's upgradeable. Why? Because it's based on a PC.
As long as companies can put their showiest and most graphically intense game versions on a PC as advertising to draw console gamers, and as long as a MMOG community exists, PC games are safe. If you doubt a game company would ever put economics ahead of customers, just remember EA.

i play -at a friends-SOCOM 2 online on PS2...Dam fun..they will never go away..its way too easy to jusyt connect and shoot other people..dam fun

Just play what you like. if you like consoles play them. If you like pc play that . thats why we are here anyway.doesn't matter what their opinion is just your own.
