Title: Skuzzy, please help me
Post by: mechanic on May 05, 2005, 09:28:25 AM
i know this is nothing to do with AH, so im sorry for asking advice but you guys are my most accesable tech support group :)

the stupid BT tech bots dont have enough automated responses to help me.

I use a DSL connection provided by my phone company.

when i start up my machine, after loggin in to windows i get a 'P2esocks' file error, plus a 'RunDLL' module error.

i imagine this is what is causing my terrible net troubles.

i can connect to the net but it will disco itself within a few minutes no matter what settings i try. I can then log back in and connect fine,.....for another few minutes.

i have disabled the 'disco when idle for X minutes' option.

what should i be doing to solve this problem?

system restore wont do it even if i restore to 2 months ago.

am i going to have to reistall windows completely, or maybe reinstall my DSL software??

its really getting me down.

thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'm not Skuzzy, but....

Looks like some sort of spyware/virus thingie(tm).

I google the term 'P2esocks' and came up with a number a hits.  All of them related to it being a highjacker/spyware package.  Try looking around and you should find some suggestions for remove, etc.

Hope that helps.

P.s. Safemode is your best friend when going after a bug .

I recommend you or anyone else who has a problem with hijackers go here http://help.lockergnome.com/ .Register. You will then be able to post. By post I mean post a HIJACKTHIS log. After you register click on  "PROBLEM SOLVERS" forums. Then click on "HIJACKTHIS LOGS". Post your problem in the HIJACKTHIS FORUM. An expert will get to you within a few days to guide you to a clean machine :)

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html - Download Hijackthis. Put it in a new folder named "Hijackthis". Put the folder on  c drive. This is important for proper logging of info when you get hijacked. Do not use this program unless you completely know what you are doing. FREE
