Chappelle's Show is a no-go, *****!
In a surprise announcement Wednesday, Comedy Central said that the highly anticipated third season of Dave Chappelle's show will not make its May 31 premiere date.
"Comedy Central has suspended production on the third season of Chappelle's Show until further notice," network spokesman Tony Fox said in a brief statement. "All parties are optimistic that production will resume in the near future."
No official reason was given for the shutdown, but sources told E! News that Chappelle has been MIA from the set for weeks. There was no indication on how long the suspension would last.
In December, the network said that Chappelle's Show was behind schedule after Chappelle fell ill, forcing the network to postpone the expected February debut of new episodes.
"Dave--and his entire production crew for that matter--got a bit of a late start on writing season three," Fox told the New York Post. Production was slated to resume in January.
Last August, Chappelle, 31, reupped with Comedy Central in a massive two-year deal, valued at $50 million by the Hollywood Reporter. The deal also set a new Industry precedent--reportedly giving the funnyman a large cut of backend DVD sales.
Featuring Chappelle's often raunchy standup, offbeat sketches and killer parodies of Prince and Rick James, Chappelle's Show has steadily built a huge following since its debut in January of 2003. By the end of season two, the half-hour show was often pulling in more than three million viewers, a substantial number for basic cable. The first season currently ranks as the all-time top-selling TV show on DVD. (Paramount has indefinitely pushed back the release of the second season--the studio hopes to time the DVD to the start of season three.)
In addition to his gig at Comedy Central, Chappelle had been working on a book for Hyperion. There has been no word on the book's status; there's also no word on the reported Rick James biopic for Paramount in which Chappelle would portray the late R&B wild man

That Wayne Brady episode will go down in history like some of the monty python skits will. It was great. I know for me I have always veiwed Brady in a good light. So it was very funny to me to see him being gangsta. Black actors baby, black actors.
-
The one I liked best is where they had the KKK meeting with one of their big leaders in a hood talking smak about the races. When they get him to take off his hood, he is a blind black guy. Really funny. Still laugh when I think of it.:lol
-
The Prince skit and Wayne Brady guest star have to be one of the funniest skits of all time.
-
"Yo, Prince can play some ball..."
Damn, one of the best shows on TV.
"I'm Rick James *****!"

jon stewart is corn in chappels sheite...Mentioning that maggot in thesame sentance makes me want to virtually stab you..
btw...One guy I truly love and think is almost funnier then Dave...

Can soemond fisn a pic of Gusto?

Say it aint so!!!!
-
Chappelle got really sick a few months ago and you never heard anything more about it. He may have something really serious wrong with him. On the other hand, he may have several big fat movie deals waiting.
Have to say there wasn't a bad episode in the series. My favorites were Rick James, Prince, Wayne Brady and Samuel Jackson Beer.

Agree, but not all black comedians do "black humor".

also agree.... but chapppell's show is suprising brilliant at times. totally not the "norm" in black humor
-
I heard they have already shot 10 episodes but that he has become religious and now feels the contents of those episodes is not something he wanted aired.
Maybe just a rumour but that is what I heard.
-
lazs, I'm not into the typical "black humor" of making fun of how whitey dances. However, Chappel nails all sides of the race spectrum. Some of his episodes are a work of art.

He has some funny stuff but he is still getting away with being racist. If a white person did the crap he does CC would never air it or Blacks would be up in arms.

watched it one time. Maybe I hit a bad episode but it seemed to fit the black formula.... trash talk... broken english... large black cast and stupid whities. All it needed was a rap soundtrack.
Along with all the other black comedians I have seen... the little bit of him I saw was enough to make me think...
same ol same ol done a little better. Is there anything besides race issues that interest black comedians?

-
dave's writing partner is neal brennan, so i guess it's mulatto humour.
-
Dave does some race humor, and he's damn good at it, and is an equal opportunity comic. He hammers blacks more than any other race, followed by whites, asians, hispanics, jews, arabs, native americans, etc.
And most of his best stuff has nothing to do with race at all. Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories, Kneehigh Park, all the Lil Jon stuff, anything with Tyrone Biggums, Slow Motion, etc.
Bunch of videos here: http://www.comedycentral.com/tv_shows/chappellesshow/showclips.jhtml
If you don't laugh your bellybutton off you're culturally illiterate, humorless, or Staga.

Cocaine is a helluva drug.
-
NEWSFLASH!!!
According to some insiders, Chappele converted to Islam and he feels guilty about making racy and downright offensive skits. (im serious!)
-
more proof that religion is the root of all evil.
-
wow... he even did a few things that had nothing (or very little) to do with race?
well... guess I was wrong then.

chapppel is hilarious..
Do you knwo anything about Rick JAmes..?..his music is dam good
the episode with Charlie Murphy talkn about his brother and Rick is .,,,,,,,great

I was wondering what the status on the show was. Seems all they have done is replay old stuff for along time now.

The slow motion thing always got me. Everything looks great in slow motion. I also like the mitsubishi stuff with the chick dancing. That was from the first season I think but it was great.
Not everything he does is race based. And when he does do race he nails everyone, black's, white, asians, ect. He is a comedy genius.
-
Watch this one clip. If you think he is just another black comedian you are out of your mind. This is one of my all time favorites.
http://www.comedycentral.com/mp/play.jhtml?reposid=/multimedia/chappelle/showclips_s2/209_pitch.html
I also like the B-Balling with prince one too. Charley Murphy could almost have his own show just for his wild 80s stories alone.

-
greencloud... sorry to dissapoint but I just don't have the energy or masochism to wade through the typical black racist humor.. the one show I saw talked more about race than I had heard in my daily life all week.
Bellussi went out like a stereotype spoiled hollywood druggie... this other guy did a prety stereotyped black money and fame management scenario.
Same old same old just gets boring is all.
lazs

Dave has access to the most powerful drug's on Earth I bet!:lol
-
No different than Blue Collar Comedy Tour. People tend to find humor in things they can relate to in life. If you can't relate to it, SURPRISE! you might not find it too funny or *gasp* downright offensive.
-
You can blame Dave Chappelle (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=797&e=2&u=/eo/20050509/en_tv_eo/16509).
-
That would be ironic considering his jokes about Rick James :).
P.S. How many articles with the same info does Yahoo think it needs??

like funk said, the humourless wouldn't find him to be funny.

Chapelle is in a nut-house in Africa right now as we type.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Beaitch (http://entertainment.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=190955>1=6542)
-
Lazs have you watched a full Chapelle show? I know you say you can't stand "that type of humor", but I dont understand how you can make a blanket description about the show if you haven't even watched the whole thing. I find Chapelle to actually be vastly different than some of the amatures you see on BET's ComicView. I dont find any of his jokes "whining" but more like laughing at the situations some black people can go through.

I watched one show clear through although it did not really hold my attention that well. I make no claims that I know all about the show only that I don't care for black humor. or....
as you put it..."situations some black people can go through"
I am not interested in those situations... they don't really apply to me.
lazs

I am late again!
-
Id check myself into a mental hospital if I was on that show also.
-
Lazs are you black?
Examples: R. Kelly spoof
Real World Skit: Skit of 1 white guy, and 4 other black people in one house.
There was also one skit where cops roll up on a black guy trying to break into a car. He goes into a fit and says how he locked his keys in the car and goes into a tirade about how this is discrimination and he will notify the papers about the profiling. The guy drives off, and a black couple walk up and ask where the hell their car is. I think it's a hilarious spin on something that might happen everyday. Turns out the supposed theif was actually a theif and used profiling and stereotyping to get away.
Please forgive me if that was actually a Reno 911 skit I cant remember. Nonetheless, it is something you would see on Chapelle. Like others said before he doesn't just pick on blacks, he picks on EVERYBODY.

RF.. noo.. I am not black nor do I have any interest in the show you are talking about (real world) I don't care about any 4 people living in the same house regardless of race.
I think the think about the car keys would be funny. I never said that there weren't a funny thing or two in some black comedians routine.
I just don't want to sit through the sermon and "poor me" crap to get to the one or two kernnels of corn in the load of crap.

The real world was a skit on Chapelle. I still dont think he has a "sermon", but you like what you like can't change that.

I think you're generalizing too broadly, I've allways found Bill Cosby and Eddie Murphey's standup acts to be among the best.
You're on to something about women though, the only female acts I'd deem worthy are both lesbians. The biological kind, not the fluffiedup kind. See other thread. :p
-
you are right... I was genealizing too braodly... I believe that murphy was about the cutoff point for me on black humor... I would allmost say that cosby was the end of it. I was speaking about modern (this generation) black coimedians
I also feel that older generation black music was very good but all modern black music is crap.
I will even go so far as to say older generation black morality was much better.
lazs
-
this is yopur p[robl;em lazs..and the more you talk about it the worst ytou sound..
You do a "blanket" statement about black comedy..THAt is frikn ridiculous..Its liek saying Gun owners are all the same...Have you ever met soem of these rednecks in South Sippi?.."Mississippi"...hell you ever met soem gun owners in Rio Linda?
You really should not make such statements..Sounds to me liek you a bit racist and biggoted....I dont beleive you are..but when you classify a whoel group of "comedians or singers that are Black are crappy?...Thats has got to be one dumb statement..I guess You Love all the white singers?..VAnilla Ice?...or I would say you are probbaly more of a Clay Aiken fan? < soem dumazz form American Idol
You dotn like any "modern" black music?...You know lazs..thsoe black boys dont always just "sing" rap music...you know?..."all modern music is crap".....Now..we defnlty Knwo YOU DO NOT KNOW ALL MODERN "BLACK" Music....For me I think 90% of rap is crap..But these "black folks " which you seem think only do rap music..well you are very wrong...
I think the small town you live in has changed your views..Especailly all the wanna be gangsters in the area..Fairfield-VAcaville..valeejo..Oakland..Sacto..ect...Open your eyes..there not all gangsta rappers..Clokn Do...and Slapn Ho's
Im thinkn that Dixon pesticides on the corn fields is getn to you
But anywyas....Chappele has had soem extrmely funny shows..
Charlie Murphy is hilarious...Again I recomend the Rick James interviews with Charlie Murphy..
and morality?..LMFAO..all races ..IN CERTAIN AREAS have declined..Look at all those pasty white gangsters running around Dixon
-
hmm... I used to be extremely biggoted but found that is was not a sensible outlook.
you claim 90% of modern black music is crap... I agree within a few percent. I would say that 90% is good enough for me to generalize tho eh?
what 90% means to me is that it is not worth sifting through the crap to get a kernel of corn. I am not a masochist and I have no interest in making anyone believe that I am either biggoted or not biggoted. I certainly have no interest in having one group like me because it is important for people of one color or another to appear to like me.
comedians... it is the same. 90% is enough to make me avoid em..
Also.. to make things worse... I am old enough to have been raised on the blues and motown and gospel and Cosby and red fox and such...
This only makes me shy away from current "black culture" even more. If they (blacks) are doing something good then someone I trust with known taste will tell me about it and then I will go out of my way to check it out.
I watched one of this nutcases shows and it was simply more poor me and you are to blame with very few kernels of corn in the load he dumped in my living room.
people who are afraid to identify sub par performances as crap are the real biggots.
lazs
-
If I say that I avoid white guys doing rap does that make me a biggot against whites or blacks? If I say I don't like gangbangers does that mean that I only don't like mexican or blackgangbangers?
What are you trying to say greencloud?
Do you think that I would not be "biggoted" against a white gangbanger? I think they are every bit as idiotic... more so in most cases.
Not sure what you want from me. do you want me to listen to rap music and black comedians in the hope that maybe 10% of their material may be good? in the case of rap it is probly 0.2%.
Explain to me why I should waste my time with it when there is so much variety out there.
lazs
-
Because it's a great show. Funny too, but you watched one show, and didn't like it, fine.
Watch what you want. No sense driving a thread 50 posts deep if you don't care to watch it, although I get what your digging for. Not worth it.
-
and ya know what creamo? If I knew you well enough to trust in your taste I would probly seek out a re run of the show... As it is tho... the people telling me how great it is have little in common with my taste in things it appears.
Point is... I simply don't go out of my way to be involved with any of the current black culture. In fact... I will walk several blocks on a bad ankle to get away from rap or hip hop music.
lazs
-
I got the point, that's what I was saying.
And you don't want to know me or my TV tastes. I watch '30 Minute Meals' with Rachael Ray like a starving Chester the Molester. I just wonder how far she can stretch those black jeans every episode, and I really think I could win her over with a whiffle ball bat, knocking that handsomehunk comfort food smile off her face as we made sweet, sweet monkey love. Tap-Tap-Tap. :)
I'm guessing we are back to square 1, not knowing each other?
-
actually creamo.... my girlfriend is a huge fan of the food network.... she will call me in when little rachel is on with "your little girlfriend is on"
I also wish to bend her over the counter and give her some life perspective.
I don't know... just something about her... a sally fields/flying nun kinda thing that appeals to me.
lazs
-
Sounds fair to me, although 'my little girlfriend' may be a stretch, but again, I get your point.
I got the AIM catalog a few days ago; my new girlfriend will pry be a K31, if Big 5 doesn't have a few nice samples. It will only cost $40 more to buy local, but that may be optimistic. Can’t FFL one at AIM's price which sucks, or I would buy 3.
We’ll see how it goes.
-
before the MP's get mad.... i am not punting for no reason...
there is new news that this show IS now dead for real:
http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1506940/20050804/index.jhtml?headlines=true
there we go :( sounds like the real deal.
-
I rented one of his DVD's the other day. I seriously dont know how people think he is so funny. He has a couple funny skits, but the majority of it is just not funny. I found a lot of it really boring. Why people feel inclined to repeat the Rick James thing is beyond me. That skit was...retarded. Dont waste your time lazs.
-
I found a LOT of his stuff so bigoted it was... funny. Brave stuff in a way; sometimes I was left thinking 'that dude's a dead man.. even his own community is gonna be gunning for him..'
Turns out he was most popular with the college age white kid crowd. 'Anti-Comedy'.
No explaining the tastes of kids these days.
(sometimes I sound so much like my parents did.. seems the older i got the smarter they were)
-
but... but.. newguy and hang... aren't you afraid that if you don't listen to/watch/admire the prowes of every black who comes down the pike with the same old crap that you will be labled a bbb.... bi... biggot?
as for his show going away... doesn't sound like I will be missing much... give someone else a chance.

IMO Chappelle quit because he thinks his show is not going in the right direction. He wants his skits to be a novelty, not MASSED PRODUCED.

I heard it was because Dave became a muslim. Whatever he was funny. Where he plays the crackhead are some of my favorite skits. I guess we will have reached a peak of fairness and openmindedness when a white comedian can make fun of other races on TV....
The pendulum has swung.. in the fifties and before it was white comedians making fun of other races and it was deemed unfair and not PC.
When will it be deemed not PC to make fun of white males?
I guess real openmindedness means.... getting rid of PC.
lazs

Well with Chappele's show being waited on, we all might as well watch Mind of Mencea (Carlos Mencea) because he is just as funny. But I believe he doesnt have enough time for his show because the half hour he has goes by too quick.
-
lazs this is the second time in the past few months where you do this "thing" where you continously don't like something about black people. First it was the way black women look, now black comedy.
Okay, we (at least me and my mouse do). What I don't get is why you have to say thing over and over in one thread. Is it a freaking affirmation or something?
-
slavery>stigmata>biased art+culture>bad taste.
when a sizeable quantity of people have learned everything from this hypothetical culture, and nothing from anything else than it, it tends to stick out like a sore thumb.
That doesn't mean the bad taste is excusable.

thrawn.. are you saying that all races look the same and that there is no difference between the routines of black comedians and white?
or... are you just upset when I point out that some of the differences do not appeal to me?

PC is a blight on our society
